Who are we? We are a community of young leaders from all over Indonesia connected under alumni bond of Young Leaders for Indonesia

What is our goal? To create sustainable impact for Indonesia community while continuing to develop young leaders through professional development and networking How is our community organized? We have two main divisions to help us achieving our goals: Networking (Internal) and Project (External). In Networking, we make sure that we grow community leadership and friendship through gatherings, bulletins, and professional self-development programs. We aspire to be the connector and communicator for our members. Through series of internal gatherings, we aim to foster the bond between young leaders in our community. With careful planning and innovative concept, we created a platform where people connection could be easily made and grown. As communicator of the community, we bring the most updated information to the people through regular publications as well as social media. In Project, we created a Social Business that empowers the unemployed through economic and welfare improvement. This year, we are planning on doing a community development at Johar Baru, Jakarta. The vision of this project is to decrease their unemployment rate as well as adding values to the human capital. Our missions to achieve that vision are to establish a small industry that can generate sustainable income and equip the community with various skills through a series of training. Marketing Research So, what are we doing in this market research? Basically, marketing team will be the one who do the market research and will give the report later on to Operational Team. We divide our research into 2 phases:

YLIAC Bulletin | October 2011 | 14

1. B2B market research: canteen and warung 2. B2C market research: nearest potential consumen (friends and family)

Things that we expect to get from this market research are their opinion about the taste and shape of our current product, the price that they want to spend for our current product, and other random comments that we can gain regarding to this product. So far, we have done the first phase and hoping to get the second phase done by this week.

Which products to choose? Tofu Nugget

This simple-first-part-of-conclusion has been delivered to Operational Team and they’re supposed to do the product development by now.

• One of a canteen owner don’t need a very good taste, but they need The decision of what product we want cheap and big size products (and, oh to sell is still be an issue in the team. well, of course, TEMPTING! :D). • One of a warung owner thought that it was oncom (yes, sir the material is just the same with oncom but it is NOT! I guess we really need to develop the shape of our product ASAP)

Soya Milk •

The taste is uber good!

We still have to make many analysis so that we can make the best decision at the end In addition, there’s an idea about whether we want to make a dry product, such as keripik since it is much easier to sell (last longer). Any input guys? ;) YLIAC Bulletin | October 2011 | 15

Our Next Plan

Who’s Involved?

The next plan is we do the market research until this weekend and visit Johar Baru to explore the place more plus do an offering to them about this project.

As I have mentioned before, we are led by Jessica (W3) and we divide our team into 4:

Our team is expecting to finish our product development 2 weeks from now and then we are going to do our one last phase of market research (B2B dan B2C). Oh, and actually we have to discuss about our marketing strategies such as 4P (products, price, placement, and promotional) and STP (Segmenting, Targeting, and Positioning) of the products in market and our future branding activities. We will conduct some research for few products in market, let’s say Maicih, about why and how they can be so successful and well known. After the last phase of our market research, we can predict the demand of the market. After that we will discuss it later on with Operational Team so we can make the “supply and demand” of our product, then will be processed into budgeting plan (initial investment and initial operational budgeting). This budgeting plan, hopefully, will be given to Financial Team at the end of first week of November.

As I have stated before, I really feel convinced that in the next ten years, your current YLIAC fellows are the ones who take charge in this country. Therefore, this is a very promising network. Do not screw it. Use it as much as you can. Optimize it in every possible way. This is a long term investment. Event series

YLIAC Gatherings Many months have been passed from YLI Forum, and each YLIA already missed each other. Even students in the same university rarely met because they come from different schools (or it is well-known as faculty). So, on the Ramadhan Month this year each region managed to have a reunion together. Lets take a look how this reunion gathering took place in every region then.

Jogjakarta Late in the afternoon on September 15th, the YLIAC Jogja gathered at Tio Ciu Restaurants at Affandi Road. There were five of us gathered; four from YLIAC Jogja and one from YLIAC Jakarta. At that time, Adi, YLIAC Jakarta, was in his traveling around Jogja and Central Java after so much effort in “escaping campus after four years struggeling”. Although we did not have any “guess star” or what-so-similar back then like what YLIAC Jakarta had, Adi acted like one by being late for about two hours after walking around Malioboro. Hmmh... asking for a treat from him would be a sweet request, eh? So then, he was very welcome. YLIAC Bulletin | October 2011 | 28

Talking about how YLI Forums were conducted back then really brought back memories. Especially since there were Wave 2 and Wave 3 joined. And so, we talked about any BLP we had at that time, because some had similar kind of BLP. However, after hearing the sound of Azan, we were acted crazy for foods. Starting with “es kopyor” I made (if you see the big bowl on the table, then that’s my bowl with es kopyor inside) then we grabbed any kinds of sea foods nearby. Yeah, we were deadly starving. Finishing the last crabs ended that wonderful night. We planned to make another reunion after this since most of the members were in their rural community services at the time. Next time we gonna make it even more happening!

Surabaya

The gathering at La Finestra Jakarta was attended by 13 people on the lovely Sunday, August 14th. The Italian-taste foods were served on that night of YLIAC Jakarta from Wave 1 until Wave 3.

From the west side of Java Island, we move out to the east side: Surabaya! Great to know that Surabaya has 6 people attend the gathering on August 26 at Rumah Makan Bu Rudi, Surabaya.

So then, the chit-chat begins with school, works, projects, and as time pass by, the foods were coming. How To Network Effectively

How to

Network Effectively? Job networking is arguably the best way to land you a job immediately after completing your university. Fortunately, it is way easier for students to network very well compared to any other group of people. networking is only a pile of business cards stack in the corner of your room ,then its about time you re- evaluate you networking skills in order to have more potential employers interested in hiring you. Ok so how do I do it?

Attend Alumni Events Job networking is very easy especially during alumni events which are happening every year. This will be beneficial to you after you have graduated. Most alumni remember the harrowing experience they went through

looking for a job so they will understand your fears and they will point you to the right direction just so you don’t hassle so much. Make sure you take the contacts of the alumni you meet with and keep in touch through out till you finish school since they might know some organizations and they will be able to put a good word for you. Participate in School Activities or Community Affairs By doing this you stand a chance of meeting professionals outside school. YLI Forum is one of this. Job networking isn’t just a mere practice of looking for a job but to also learn more about the professional world. Always learn to volunteer in non- profit organizations. By meeting people already in a job you are interested in , you will be able to get insight from them on how to get that job.

Internships It is highly advisable to take an internship during school long vacations in order to increase your job networking. Internships assist you to have hands on experience in the field of your choice and also to interact with seasoned professionals in your field. Try to get a contact of at least one professional and keep in touch even after you have completed your internship. Students should approach networking with only two motives in their mind, getting to know different scores of people and also letting them to know you too. We recommend the following few guidelines to help you network effectively: • Give out and receive information: - networking works in two ways. When you meet somebody, ask him/her about his business or company

and then take your turn to tell him/her about what you have studied for or professional qualification that you have. • Try to estimate the worth of your contract: - it’s a fact that you can’t network effectively with every one. After meeting someone, you have to judge for your self whether it was worth it to meet that person and is it beneficial to strike a relationship with that person. • Maintenance: - as your network widens its base, you should re-evaluate the people in your network quite frequently. Keep your networks close since you never know when they will need help from you or when you will require their assistance. In a nutshell, it’s important to act nice to every body because you never know the future.
