Érase una vez una pareja de profesores chiflados llamados Andy McKay y Dawn Hindle, quienes en 2005 crearon una especie de Transformer del ocio llamado Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Y todo lo que vino después ya es historia…

Si amigas, porque a pesar de que Andy y Dawn aseguran que su extraña criatura (mitad hotel, mitad festival de música) cumple con todas las normativas de ruidos habidas y por haber en el primer mundo y Portugal, lo cierto es que la nueva y poco realista normativa de espectáculos de las islas baleares ha obligado a Ibiza Rocks a elegir entre susto o muerte. O lo que es lo mismo: dejar de hacer grandes conciertos de rock o cerrar el garito. La opción elegida ha sido la primera, así que a partir de ahora podremos seguir disfrutando de las divertidísimas pool parties que organiza el hotel y donde este año actuarán grandes artistas como Rudimental o Craig David, pero eso si, NO MORE ROCK AND ROLL BABY!

Conclusión: Que a partir de hoy, Sant Antoni de Portmany puede que siga pareciendo la misma ciudad de siempre, pero ya nunca volverá a ser igual (válgame Dios, qué Drama Queen me pongo cuando quiero).

Pero es que es verdad, porque durante más de una década Ibiza Rocks convirtió a Sant Antoni en la fucking meca mediterránea del pop-rock… Bueno, sí, ya sé que el Mediterráneo es un mar muy grande y que en sus costas se celebran festivales mucho más importantes (como el FIB de Benicassim o el Primavera Sound de Barcelona), pero tampoco te tomes todo lo que digo al pie de la letra coño… En fin, meca o no meca, lo cierto es que por aquí pasaron bandas muuuuuuy gordas como: New Order, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines, LCD Soundsystem, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, Ed Sheeran, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand o The

Vaccines entre muchos, muchos otros.

¿Y qué les quedará a nuestros nietos de todo aquello? Pues mil y una batallitas contadas por su abuelo “el rockero” y un libro de fotografía bien grande y gordo: Ibiza Rocks, by Jérôme Ferrière.

Jérôme, un fotógrafo y ser humano francés afincado en Ibiza, es el responsable de publicaciones tan míticas como Ibiza Portraits, el libro de retratos donde aparecen los rostros más influyentes de la vida social ibicenca y que tiene el honor de ser la 2ª publicación más vista de la isla de todos los tiempos (tan solo superada por el chat de WhatsApp que avisa de los controles de alcoholemia).

Su nuevo trabajo es una retrospectiva con la que el fotógrafo pretende inmortalizar los doce años de conciertos vividos en Ibiza Rocks. Y para conseguir atrapar toda la fuerza y energía de los shows, la mayoría de las fotografías fueron tomados en el backstage, minutos antes o después de que los artistas pisaran el escenario. El resultado es un impresionante libro de más de cien instantáneas en blanco y negro, imágenes llenas de adrenalina, sudor y rock and roll de artistas (y no tan artistas) como Liam Gallagher, Kylie Minogue, Mr. Nice, Lily Allen, Happy Mondays, Boy George o Marky Ramone.

Ah y además el libro cumple con las normativas de ruidos más exigentes conocidas hasta la fecha. Así que incluso en las islas baleares puedes ojearlo sin miedo a que te lo cierren.

Once upon a time two crazy professors called Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle created an entertainment behemoth called Ibiza Rocks, and the rest as they say is history.

Even though Andy and Dawn’s creation (half hotel, half music festival) complied with all the island’s noise regulations, when new and unrealistic sound limits for shows and concerts came into force, Ibiza Rocks was forced into a tough decision, i.e. stop doing concerts or closing the hotel. Logically they chose the first option and 2018 sees Ibiza Rocks become the home of pool parties with huge artists such as Rudimental and Craig David, however there will be NO MORE ROCK AND ROLL BABY!

Conclusion: Even though San Antonio seems the same, it will be different without that weekly dose of live concerts. (I’m a Drama Queen when I wanna be.)

Stepping back into time, Ibiza Rocks converted San Antonio into the fucking Mediterranean mecca of rock for over a decade. Its stage hosted the crème de la crème, a veritable indie lovers wet dream including: New Order, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines, LCD Soundsystem, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, Ed Sheeran, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand

and The Vaccines.

These, and many more have been immortalised in the book, Ibiza Rocks by Jerôme Ferrière. This Frenchman is a renowned photographer and long time resident in Ibiza, where another of his books, Ibiza Portraits, shows Ibiza’s most influential characters, and has the honour of being Ibiza’s 2nd most seen publication of all time (only beaten by the WhatsApp group that warns about police traffic stops for drink driving around the island).

This new book is a retrospective, where the photographer captures 12 years of live concerts in Ibiza Rocks. In order to capture the raw energy of the shows, the majority of the photos were taken in the backstage areas, minutes before or after the artists hit the stage. The result is an impressive book filled with more than 100 black and white photos, images full of adrenaline, sweat and rock ‘n’ roll. It is a loving look back at artists who not only played live but who also enjoyed hanging out at Ibiza Rocks including: Liam Gallagher, Kylie Minogue, Mr Nice, Lily Allen, Happy Mondays, Boy George and Marky Ramone.

The book complies with the most stringent noise regulations that you can imagine, so that you can read it, even in the Balearic Islands, without fear of anyone closing it for you.
