ROYAL BLOOD
Interview by Colin Peters
1. Hola, Ben y Mike, ¿Qué tal? Supongo que os estaréis recuperando de vuestra gira por Europea y Americana. ¿Habéis podido hacer un descanso? Hola, estamos muy bien, gracias por preguntar. Acabamos de regresar de nuestro primer viaje a Sudamérica, donde tocamos por primera vez. Siempre mola tocar. Tuvimos un poco de tiempo libre a principios de 2018 pero estamos tan entusiasmados con hacer directos y música nueva que volvemos otra vez al curro. 2. Después de haber visto a Royal Blood tocando en Ibiza Rocks y Barcelona el año pasado, todavía estoy sorprendido de cómo solo dos chicos pueden crear un muro de sonido tan potente. ¿Cómo lo hacéis? Para crear ese sonido, primero tienes que aprender a construir. Necesitas las herramientas adecuadas y las ganas de desarrollarte y practicar tu oficio. El secreto es que tanto Mike como yo hemos aprendido a hacerlo juntos, y esta simbiosis, hace que el resultado suene más grande de lo que la gente pueda llegar a imaginar. 3. Con vuestro segundo álbum, How Did We Get We Dark, habéis acabado por completo con el temido Síndrome del Segundo Disco. ¿Fue una decisión consciente el cambiar algunas cosas con respecto al primer álbum? Definitivamente, no queríamos hacer “Royal Blood 2”. Queremos expandirnos como compositores y músicos, para eso debíamos avanzar hacia lo desconocido. Aún así, todavía queríamos ser fieles a nosotros mismos y al sonido característico de nuestra banda, que proviene directamente de Rock n ‘Roll. 4. ¿Cómo fue vuestra experiencia en Ibiza el año pasado? ¿Fue la primera vez que estuvisteis aquí? Nos divertimos mucho en Ibiza, una isla de fiesta sin dudas. (Ben) Regresé un par de meses después para un poco más de “festuki”. 5. Después de la siguiente etapa de vuestra gira mundial, ¿cuáles son los planes? Más de todo, que siga la fiesta. Pues más giras, más discos, más cachondeo. 6. ¿Tener éxito es todo lo que imaginasteis? (Ben) No te voy a mentir, el éxito es muy satisfactorio para cualquiera. Ser capaz de hacer algo que amas y creer en ello y tener el apoyo y el amor de tanta gente mientras hago mi trabajo es una buena sensación, supongo.
1. Hi Ben and Mike, how are you? I guess you are recovering from the exertions of your European and Americas Tour. Have you been able to take a break? Hello, we’re very well, thank you for asking. We’ve just got back from our first trip to South America, where we played for the first time. It never gets old. We had a bit of time off at the beginning of 2018, but we’re so excited about playing shows and making new music that we love getting back to work. 2. Having seen Royal Blood perform at Ibiza Rocks and Barcelona last year, I’m still amazed at how just 2 guys can create such a massive wall of sound. How do you do it? To build a wall of sound, you have to first learn how to build. You need the right tools to do the job, and the desire to develop and practice your trade. The secret is that both Mike & I have learnt to do this together, and the combination between us and our parts can make it sound bigger than people can imagine.

3. Your sophomore album, How Did We Get So Dark, you took the sword to the dreaded Second Album Syndrome and absolutely skewered it. Was it a conscious decision to change some things from your first album? Definitely, we didn’t want to do “Royal Blood 2”. We want to expand as songwriters and musicians, so to do that you have to move forward into the unknown. Saying this we still wanted to stay true to ourselves and our bands core sound, which comes from straight up Rock n’ Roll. 4. How was your Ibiza experience last year? Was it the first time you’ve been here? We had a lot of fun in Ibiza, a party island for sure. (Ben) I returned later in the year to create a little more carnage. 5. After the next leg of your World Tour what are your plans? More of this, let’s keep this party rolling. More tours, more recording, more partying. 6. Is being successful all you imagined it to be? (Ben) I’m not gonna lie, success is very satisfying for anyone. To be able to do something I love, believe in and have the support and love from so many other people while doing it is a good feeling I suppose.
