01 City and school integration

CAS Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT)

Location: Guangming District, Shenzhen

Instructor: Shuyan Yang

Date: 2021

Nowadays, the transformation of campus life and social space, as well as the evolution of learning mode and knowledge dissemination mode, have brought new opportunities and challenges to campus planning and design.

Through the comparison of advantages and disadvantages of the open campus and the closed campus at home and abroad, this design seeks a new semi-open campus model. The site is near Tangjiao Mountain in the east. To continue the innovation and vitality chain of Shenzhen Campus of Sun Yat-sen University in the west, a central landscape belt is formed in the middle of the site. The main entrance is set on the west side of Beizhen Road, the secondary entrance is set on the north side. The overall layout of the campus respects the path of mountain confluence and complies with the mountain trend. The buildings are arranged along the horizontal axis to ensure that the viewing corridor at the entrance is unblocked. Integrating green and wisdom, sharing three future development concepts, forming six functional groups to build a diversified school living space. Among them, the library, stadium, international exchange center and other adjacent to the street, open to the community, forming a shared. Through the river, the teaching building, information center and dormitory are separated from the outside world. The main road along the river will effectively connect the six groups to form an overall connected campus space.

SIAT takes innovation and research as its mission. It has both an open community integrating the city and the university, and a private science and innovation community. Symbiosis with nature, interaction with technology, so as to practice the concept of future urban development. It is hoped to provide students with a new campus life experience and educational environment and stimulate the collision of thinking to cultivate comprehensive and innovative talents.

Centralized campus research design
Decentralized campus research design

To continue the chain of innovation and vitality surrounding the Shenzhen campus of Sun Yat-sen University, a central landscape belt is formed in the middle of the site

The landscape belt intersects with the vitality axis on the west side. The main entrance is set at the Beizhen Road, and the north side of the site is the secondary entrance

Functional analysis

Extend the mountain landscape to the campus, optimize the river combining with the landscape belt, and ensure that the view gallery connecting the mountain from the entrance is transparent

Sharing facilities with the city are arranged along the urban road. Private areas are near the mountain. Gongchang Road is planned as the urban development axis

02 MICE Garden

Project Theme: Airport City redesign based on organic concept

Location: Pudong District, Shanghai

Instructor: BoB Neville Pieter Mars, Gang Wang

Date: 2021-2022

The site is located in the southwest of the Chuansha region, bounded by roads and rivers. Its proximity to Shanghai's Pudong airport will bring advantages in population, information and logistics, and facilitate the integration and concentration of high-tech, advanced manufacturing and other industries in the surrounding areas. It is also close to Disneyland, which has a great impact on tourism, services and commercial trade.

MICE stands for Meeting, Incentive travel, Convention and Exhibition. The design combines the concepts of airport city and organic city, building MICE and other supporting facilities to bring prosperity to the local economy and the surrounding areas. After analyzing the history of Chuansha, the population and the current situation, the commercial building near Chuansha railway station is taken as the landmark, and the central corridor from north to south is the focus of the design, which carries several important groups such as commerce, conference center, hotel and park. The site is divided into exhibition area, living area and ecological area, which continue the corresponding functions horizontally. The exhibition area is the main part of MICE. The living area renovate the original business district, bus station, school and residential area, and add office building, industrial park and other functions. Moreover, the environment of the southern green belt will be improved and continued northward, connecting all ecological areas, surrounding the exhibition area and living area, and realizing the organic combination of business and garden.

It is hoped that MICE could drive the development of high-tech industry and logistics, bring a large number of visitors and services, realize a benign economic cycle, and realize the flowering of the industry in the future.

03 Steel Music Festival

Redevelopment of industrial urban areas

Location: Liwan District, Guangzhou

Instructor: Ziyi Liu

Collaborator: Sa Zhao

Date: 2022.7-2022.9

This project is located in an abandoned steel plant in Liwan District, Guangzhou. Since it was abandoned in 2013, it has become a dilapidated industrial estate. The original industry left a lot of environmental problems on the site. In order to solve the problems of environmental pollution and site abandonment, this project renovated the site environment by repairing the soil, and at the same time transformed the steel plant into an art and creative park, which is popular with young people and mainly focuses on music festival. This industrial ruin provides a new way of vitality and offers another possibility to achieve sustainable transformation of industrial areas and effective urban renewal.

Instructor: Manyun Zhang

Date: 2022.8-2022.11

The design is based on the fairy tale of the Little Prince. In this context of this story, every visitor to the park will be a little prince. The virtual fox in the official APP will act as a butler, accompanying and guiding visitors to the planet of Kings, vain gentlemen, drunks, merchants, lamplingers and geographers. Through six themed immersive experiences, visitors will come with new insights to piece together their own unique and beloved rose. Cameras throughout the park will also combine with the positioning system of the APP to capture the wonderful moments of visitors in various areas of the park, and automatically generate the park's official memory videos and photos, which can be obtained by visitors with complete roses.
