Applied Sport and Exercise Science with Coaching Subject Specific Assessment Criteria A. Students are expected to have Knowledge and Understanding (max 6) knowledge and understanding of the theoretical topics studied. They are also expected to be able to use this knowledge and understanding critically, and apply it to analyse situations and solve problems . B. Students are expected to be able to Coaching Performance (max 6) demonstrate attributes of sports coaches and understand the coaching process. They should be able to communicate effectively and apply strategies to coaching situations. C. Students are expected to demonstrate Personal Engagement and positive attitudes towards course Development (max 6) content, and offer opinions and thought on topics covered in class discussion. They also need to demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility for their own physical development.

At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to: -­‐ use sports science terminology and vocabulary in context -­‐ demonstrate an understanding of concepts, theories, strategies, techniques , laws and rules related to a variety of sport science theories , and apply them in various contexts. At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to: -­‐ understand the necessity and begin to formulate a coaching philosophy. -­‐ begin to demonstrate some skills and techniques necessary to coach in a variety of situations -­‐ understanding the coaching process and factors effecting the this. At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to: -­‐communicate effectively, including verbal and non-­‐verbal forms of communication. -­‐Take responsibility for their own learning process and demonstrate engagement with the activity. -­‐Reflect critically upon their own achievements. -­‐Set goals to enhance learning and take action towards achieving them.

Demonstrates a basic knowledge of principles, concepts, strategies, techniques and theories related to sports science. Sometimes uses this knowledge to analyse and solve problems. 3-­‐4 Uses a range of terminology accurately and appropriately in situations. Demonstrates a good knowledge of principles, concepts, strategies, techniques and theories related to sports science. Uses this knowledge to analyse and solve problems. 5-­‐6 Uses a wide range of terminology accurately and appropriately in most situations. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of principles, concepts, strategies, techniques and theories related to sports science. Uses this knowledge effectively to analyse and solve problems

The student shows a developed understanding of the coaching process and effectively applies this to their coaching practice.

The student demonstrates attitudes and strategies that develop their communication and relationships with others. The student takes responsibility for their own learning most of the time and shows some enthusiasm and commitment to sports science. The student reflects on their own achievements to a satisfactory level and usually sets appropriate goals, but may need encouragement to take action to achieve them. The student demonstrates attitudes and strategies that enhance their communication and relationships with others. The student takes responsibility for their own learning and shows consistent enthusiasm and commitment to sports science. The student reflects critically on their own achievements and sets appropriate goals, and takes action to achieve them.
