Hand Surgery Under Regional/Local Anaesthesia Post-Operative Care Tips Please follow the below advice for the net 24 hours after the surgery: •

The regional anaesthesia block, in addition to providing pain relief, will result in numbness and weakness of the whole or part of the concerned limb. Prevention of injury - please continue to use your arm sling until you regain your sensation and strength.

Sensation will come back slowly/gradually between 6-10 hours.
•
If severe numbness or weakness persists beyond 24 hours, please report to the clinic or emergency department.
•
After surgery, mild swelling is expected. Remember to remove the bandage/ backslab if your fingers are numb or discoloured
•
If discoloration is seen at your nail beds (bluishcolor), please report to the emergency department after office hours.
•
Remember to keep the affected hand elevated for better blood circulation for at least 5 days (above the level of the heart)
•
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery for the next 24 hours.
•
Resume your usual diet.
•
Please keep your dressing clean and dry.
•
Take your medication as prescribed.
