This project focuses on renovating House 4, situated on Governor's Island. Originally constructed in the 18th century, the house underwent modifications in the 19th and 20th centuries. Presently, in 2022, we are seeking a new alteration for the purpose of accommodating an artist during the summer for an upcoming art exhibition. The intended occupant of this house is a ceramic artist.
My design approach involves both enclosing the infill addition and making alterations to the ground and elevation. By considering the relationship between the ground level and the building's façade, I aim to create a dynamic interaction.
Additionally, I intend to blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior, making the house more welcoming. To pique people's curiosity and encourage exploration, I plan to incorporate layered elements that allow glimpses into different areas of the house. This will provide opportunities for individuals on different floors to peer through openings and observe activities happening within.

LOCATION House 4, Nolan Park, Governors Island, NY
Object Study
Located in Peru and China, the landscapes I have chosen for this project are groups of colorful slopes and summits. Their appearance is layered mineral composition. The thickness of each layer varies from the movement of tectonic plates: in places that are compressed harder, then layers look thinner.

CONDUIT DECONSTRUCTION
DURATION COURSE
After a site visit to Governors island, I picked the conduit as the object for analysis and measurement. Conduit serves as a medium of connecting the house's exterior and interior, and the wires in the conduit further connect the house and the house.
Connecting, pathing, and bending, these interesting moments in the conduit are extracted and trans- formed into the elements of the archival model. The archival model is assembled with different components that interact together in order to present the context of the conduit.
INSTRUCTOR ROLE
There are three components that compose the archival model: wire (black part), conduit (white part), and medium (green part). Wire parts express the move- ments, such as penetrating, extending and turning around. Conduit parts presents how an object is deconstructed and deformated. Medium part talks about shape of conduit and plays the role as medium between wire and conduit, like wall in reality that is penetrated by the conduit.

THE WATER SCHOOL
2023/01 - 2023/04
This studio proposes locating a Middle School on a vacant site in the neighborhood of Redhook Brooklyn NY. The school will furthermore provide space for community events and activities. Redhook is a diverse community located in a remote location in Brooklyn with an expansive waterfront area and spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline. It is located in a low-lying area of Brooklyn and is vulnerable to flooding.
This ongoing project began with the interpretation of “space, movement, and events” from Redhook, focusing on diverse cultural and social contexts.

When people talk about the Redhook area in Brooklyn, the first feature that comes up is water. Redhook is famous for its historical maritime industrialization development. Therefore, the color itinerary is inspired by water. The kind of water that is colored by the smoke blowing out from the boats and factories.

PANTHEON CAVE

Inspired by the way the opening of the dome brings sunlight into the structure, I have transformed the circular opening into a crack on top of a cave, creating a sense of depth and intrigue.
In this sculpture, I have used the interplay of brightness and darkness to embody the rough surface of poche, a technique commonly used in architecture where the rough material is exposed to create a striking visual effect. This contrast’s dynamic and intricate nature is further enhanced by the way horizontal extrusions intersect with vertical extrusions, creating a visually stimulating experience for the viewer.

To add another layer of depth and texture to the sculpture, I have used metal mesh material that creates a semi-transparent texture, allowing the thickness of the Pantheon cave to breathe. This creates a effect that captures the essence of the Pantheon's architectural design and celebrates its organic beauty. Furthermore, I have incorporated a spiral vertebral-like sculpture that penetrates the entire chunk, breaking the geometrical language with the dynamic of organic form. This feature adds a unique and unconventional element to the sculpture, creating a sense of movement and fluidity that complements the sharp contrast of the poche and extrusions.

In creating this sculpture, I hope to pay homage to the architectural genius of the Pantheon while creating a captivating and thought-provoking art piece. The interplay of light and shadow, the contrast of brightness and darkness, the use of semitransparent materials, and the incorporation of organic forms all come together to create a truly remarkable work of art that is sure to leave a lasting impression on its viewers.
