I chose the rest area by the Musselburgh lagoon for the design and detailed construction of the shelterer and surrounding landscape.

The purpose of this document is to describe the proposed landscape strategy, the analysis process for the impact strategy, and the detailed design principles for hard and soft elements.

The design proposal will describe how the detailed design will optimize the site by taking into account the existing landscape environment such as topography, drainage, wind direction and other factors. It also illustrates the use of hard/soft materials and proper drainage as well as specific new plant species to optimize the experience of people and wildlife using the site. In addition, detailed construction procedures and maintenance recommendations and design procedures will be explained.

This drawing illustrates the existing conditions and potential opportunities of the site on the 1:2000@ a1 scale, also illustrates how this project links to the Terrain & Ecologies project.

The strategy of the terrain & ecologies project near lagoon in musselburgh focuses on solving the tension between man and nature, and establishing natural habitats, ecological restoration. The lagoon lake here is seriously polluted and has serious ecological problems. Second, large areas here are expected to be flooded within fifty years. The plant species here is relatively poor, and it is not an ideal habitat for animals. In addition to this, people enjoy walking along the coast or walking their dogs.

Therefore, in the terrain & ecologies project, we propose strategies such as establishing a nature reserve and a slow-moving system to help form a sustainable ecological environment here, so that people and nature can coexist in harmony.

In my personal 1:50 project, I analysed the prevailing wind direction on the site, the needs of people walking here and the design strategy on a larger scale in the T&E project. Based on these, I planned a shelterer to provide temporary resting place for tourists, and planned pollinator meadow and rain garden. Taking into account the rainwater flow direction of the site, the contour lines were appropriately changed.

There is a polluted lagoon lake, and now there are 0m many wild animals living here, such as some water 25m birds. People enjoy walking, exercising or walking their dogs on the roads established along the coast. Scale bar 1:2000 However, the wind here is very strong, and it is affected by the prevailing southwest wind all year round, but there is no windbreak for people to rest.

MAIN ROAD The widest road with good views and high pedestrian traffic, mainly residents walking their dogs, birdwatchers, joggers and cyclists. Lack of shade and vegetation and subject to sea breezes.

Paved by gravel and crashed coal, the surface is prone to waterlogging.

SEATING AREA

Construction design project site 1:50 SEATING AREA The seating area is made of concrete, built into the hillside, on the same level as the path and connected to the main road by steps. The views towards the sea are good. There are no accessible ramps or guardrails so accessibility and safety are poor. Lack of shelter and surrounding vegetation, so it is vulnerable to sea wind, rain and high temperatures in summer.

BIRD HIDES

PATH Similar to the main road, mainly used by residents walking their dogs, birdwatchers, joggers and cyclists. Lack of shade and vegetation and subject to sea breezes. Paved by gravel and crashed coal.

LAGOON Lake Lagoon is polluted and the nearby plants are not rich. It is also an excellent location for bird watching, and many people take pictures with professional cameras.

PATH Unpaved, narrow, hard-soil path. It is the only way to get from the open car park area to the bird viewing structures.Not wheelchair friendly, and the top soil on both sides of the path is ash, which may pose some safety hazard.

Width: 1.2m

BIRD HIDES Made of brick and concrete, small in size and without a roof. Each can accommodate about three people. They provide good shelter for wind, but not for rain.Very popular with birdwatchers.

When to see January to December Malam grass is a common plant in coastal dunes. It is characterized by spiky leaves in dense grey-green clusters. It plays a vital role in stabilizing sand dunes, and its fibrous, messy roots hold the sand in place, which helps encourage other plants to settle. This plant is well adapted to the coastal environment. Its smooth, rolled leaves prevent it from drying out.

It blooms in July and August.

CURRENT SITUATION

After a thorough investigation of the site conditions, survey the terrain, determine the geological conditions, and soil types.

Assess contamination, or obstructions in the site. There is a lagoon lake around the site and there is a pollution problem. There is a concrete platform on the site, and the ground is mostly soft sandy soil. A single plant species.

DESCRIPTION

The first thing to do is to clear the site - including stones, plant roots, and properly prepare the building foundation and roadbed.

Excavation and reinforcement, excavation of foundations, subgrades and trench lines in designated areas in the first stage. Transport the excavated earthwork to the designed area.

At the same time, dig out pond and the foundation pits needed to grow the plants.

Connect the bearing structure to the embedded parts and pour concrete. Backfill with soil gravel. Paved boardwalks, shelters, and other hard paving. Build rest seats, gabions and other landscape structures.

POLLINATOR MEADOW The first year after sowing, after about 6 to 8 weeks of growth, cutting the grass to a height of 5 cm and repeating every two months in the first summer can be a good boost to the plant's flower and grass growth RAIN GARDEN During the first year, water the rain garden once a week and weed regularly for the first three weeks after planting. Dig a slot in the berm on the lower side to let most of the water out. Newborn plants should not be submerged in water. Add rocks or other obstructions to rain garden drains to prevent heavy rain from washing away seedlings, or prevent rainwater from eroding the bottom of the garden bed.

IN THE SECOND YEAR INFRASTRUCTURE Sandstone needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent the material from growing moss. If moss appears, it needs to be cleaned with bleach. people can lean the corroded area of mild steel by pickling or mechanical grinding.

POLLINATOR MEADOW As the soil warms in the spring, wildflower seedlings sprout and emerge, but at this point it can be difficult to distinguish wildflowers from weeds. Some wildflowers don't even sprout for 2-3 years after planting, and most bloom into low ground in the first season. Doing hand weeding at this time may interfere with sprouting wildflower seedlings and is not recommended. Consider mowing at 4-6 inches in midsummer to fight weeds back, but over the tops of most wildflower seedlings.

Few wildflowers bloom this year RAIN GARDEN This is when rain gardens can thrive without additional watering and fertilizers. Only little weeding is required each summer. Leaving the seeds and dead leaves in place through the winter provides food for a wide variety of wildlife and some nutrients for plants. Plants next to buildings require some construction.
