Foreword Finnish education and science policy stresses quality, efficiency, equity and internationalism. It is geared to promote the competitiveness of the Finnish welfare society. With the mission of providing high quality education that meets the changing needs of society, the universities of applied sciences in Finland are committed to equipping students with professional competency as well as maintaining a strong partnership with working life. Studies at the universities of applied sciences are a practical-oriented alternative to traditional university education and give the students an excellent combination of hands-on skills along with a strong theoretical knowledge base. The bachelor-level studies at 26 universities of applied sciences include 210–270 ECTS credits that take an average of 3.5 to 4.5 years to complete. Postgraduate, professional master’s degree programmes offer gainfully employed graduates an excellent opportunity to deepen and expand their expertise. These studies are implemented in a blended learning model and take 1.5-2 years (60–90 ECTS) to complete.

Arcada University of Applied Sciences Arcada, with 2700 students and 170 members of staff, is a Finland-Swedish university of applied sciences in Arabianranta, Helsinki. We aim to meet the needs of society and working life by providing practically oriented studies with an innovative touch. We strongly believe in learning through research and development, in which both students and staff are involved. About 50 nationalities are represented at our international campus. Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences Multiculturally local Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences, COU, was founded in 1998 and has three campuses; Kokkola, Pietarsaari and Ylivieska. The bilingual coastal towns of Kokkola and Pietarsaari, are located on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia and the nearby town of Ylivieska is situated in the river valley on the Ostrobothnian plain. Offering education, conducting research and development and having an impact on the region are defined as the main task of COU. Diaconia University of Applied Sciences To Care, To Share, To Dare Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Diak) is a nation-wide university of applied sciences – one of a kind in the field of social services, health care, communication and sign language intepretation education in Finland. Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences Through education, research and development, Haaga-Helia prepares professionals for business and services. HAMK University of Applied Sciences Dynamic and Diversified    HAMK is a multidisciplinary university of applied sciences which offers broad-based, high-quality education, research and development, and strong internationalisation. HAMK is situated centrally in the most populated area of the country, southern Finland. HAMK is a higher education institution authorised by the Government of Finland. We offer education in culture; natural resources and the environment; natural sciences; social sciences, business and administration; social services, health and sport; technology, communication and transport; and vocational teacher education. Studies at HAMK are very practice oriented. We use new pedagogical methods, such as Project Learning and Learning by Developing. Work placements in companies provide students with real life experience and good contacts for their future. Team work in cross cultural student groups gives exceptional experience and opportunities to build networks with students who come from at least 20-30 nationalities. Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences is the largest university of applied sciences in Finland with 14,000 students. It is located in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area in the cities of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. Metropolia offers education in four Fields of Study: Technology and Transport, Health Care and Social Services, Business and Administration, and Culture.   All the Fields of Study at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences provide education in English. English is the language of tuition in eight Bachelor’s Degree Programmes and two Master’s Degree Programmes. In addition, two Bachelor’s Degree Programmes have International Semesters.   Metropolia has modern curricula and learning environments as well as excellent staff. The degree programmes involve close cooperation with businesses, industry, organisations and the labour market. Teaching is integrated with projects, enabling students to learn cooperation and development skills that are valued highly in working life.  The technology students of Metropolia account for almost 20 per cent of university of applied sciences technology students in the country. Moreover, all but two health care and social services degree programmes are provided by Metropolia, and the cultural degree programme of this level is the most extensive in the country. The student intake for Business and Administration training has also been increased, giving a boost to create even better business expertise.

JAMK University of Applied Sciences Creating Competence  JAMK University of Applied Sciences is an attractive, internationally oriented higher education institution with a strong role among the developers of the Jyväskylä region and Central Finland. Kajaani University of Applied Science The key to success!  With its 2000 students Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is a multidisciplinary centre of higher education. Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences An enjoyable centre for active learning Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences was established in August 1992. Currently there are about 2500 students and a staff of approximately 230. The Bachelor´s degree programmes are designed to meet the changing requirements and development needs of the world of work, having a pronounced professional emphasis, and qualifying graduates for various expert duties. The most important task of Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences is to train entrepreneurially spirited, highly skilled people, who understand the conditions and possibilities of the North. The competence strategy of Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences is based on four fields of expertise; Industry, Human welfare, Culture and Experiments, Trade and Entrepreneurship. Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences provides education for young people and adults leading to bachelor´s and master´s degrees. The guiding principles of the University of Applied Sciences´ Curriculum are internationalization, multidisciplinary studies, professional skills and placement of studies in working life. The university is made up of six education units which specialise in different fields of studies: Business and Administration, Business and Data Processing, Cultural and Media Arts, Health Care, Social Services and Engineering Technology. Lahti University of Applied Sciences Lahti University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1992 and is owned by the municipalities of the Lahti region through the Lahti Region Educational Consortium. Lahti University of Applied Sciences is an independent commercial undertaking within the Consortium.   Lahti University of Applied Sciences is located in Southern Finland in the city of Lahti. Six faculties operate in a number of locations in Lahti, with the main central campus area within a kilometre from the city centre, close to Lake Vesijärvi and the Salpausselkä outdoor recreation area.    Lahti University of Applied Sciences is a multidisciplinary institution of higher education and it has over twenty Bachelor-level degree programmes with over forty specialisation lines to offer. Students are selected by entrance examination.   There are two Bachelor-level degree programmes taught entirely in English: International Business and Business Information Technology. Additionally Lahti University of Applied Sciences offers Masterlevel postgraduate degree programmes in selected fields of study. Lahti University of Applied Sciences has a very active student union, LAMKO. It has subdivisions at all faculties.    The application period to the degree programmes is in January - May. Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences Got to Get in Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences (MUAS) lies at the heart of the beautiful Finnish Lake District in the South Savo region. MUAS is a modern higher education institution offering high quality education and more fields of study than any other University of Applied Sciences in Finland. There are 20 degree programmes at MUAS, three of which are in English. With a total amount of 4500 students and 200 full-time lecturers Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences is an institution of vibrant student activity. North Karelia University of Applied Sciences Professionals stand out! North Karelia University of Applied Sciences (NKUAS) is the easternmost University of Applied Sciences in Finland and the European Union. Novia University of Applied Sciences Novia UAS is a multidisciplinary institution of higher education that trains professionals for expert and development posts. We offer 33 degree programmes leading to a Bachelor’s degree after 3.5 to 4.5 years of study. Two bachelor’s programmes are conducted entirely in English: Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Nursing.  Several Master level programmes run in the fields of health and social care, technology, and natural resources.  The studies have a practical orientation. Novia UAS interacts with regional industries, trade and services through e.g. development work and projects, practical training periods and commissioned Bachelor’s theses.   Novia is a network university connecting campuses in seven coastal towns in southwestern and western Finland. The string of approximately 600 kilometres ties together the Swedish-speaking regions of the country, which are Novia’s main area of recruitment. Most of Novia’s 3,500 students speak Swedish as their first language, representing a national minority of about 5% or 300,000 people. Oulu University of Applied Sciences Oulu University of Applied Sciences – Part of Life  Oulu University of Applied Sciences strengthens Northern Finland’s know how, intellectual wellbeing and prosperity. Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences The North Leads the Way  Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences (RAMK) is located in the city of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle in Lapland Province in Finland. It is the northernmost higher professional education institution in the European Union. It has about 3 100 students and a staff of 260 in three campuses.   Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences offers many fields of study. Studies are comprised of theoretical professional studies as well as practical training and bachelor’s theses. Northernness is for us an opportunity to specialize internationally. Satakunta University of Applied Sciences SAMK A network-based learning and development centre on the west coast of Finland  Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) is a multidisciplinary higher education institution on the west coast of Finland. SAMK provides the students with top-level skills, which are highly valued in working life and required in work tasks of the future. SAMK has a well functioning international cooperation network that serves as a forum for various projects related to education as well as research and development.   Education is divided into three faculties: Business and Culture, Social Services and Health Care and Technology and Maritime Management. Bachelor’s degrees are awarded in about twenty degree programmes, and it is also possible to complete Master’s degrees. Four Bachelor’s degrees are taught in English as well as one Master’s degree. Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences You are Your Future!  Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is a multidisciplinary institution of higher education which also conducts applied R&D in the region of South Ostrobothnia in West Finland.   Vision 2015: Seinäjoki UAS is a successful, international and entrepreneurial institution of higher education.  Seinäjoki UAS has 20 Bachelor and 7 Master degree programmes. Three degree programmes are totally taught in English. Several one-semester programmes taught in English are available for international exchange students.   The mission of Seinäjoki UAS is solidly linked to regional development but the institution is also a desired international cooperation partner. TAMK University of Applied Sciences TAMK – attractive study place in a city of students  TAMK University of Applied Sciences and PIRAMK University of Applied Sciences merge at the beginning of 2010. The name of the new university of applied sciences is TAMK University of Applied Sciences. In the joint application of spring 2009, TAMK and PIRAMK were the two most popular among the Finnish universities of applied sciences.  The new TAMK is the third largest university of applied sciences in Finland with approximately 9000 students. In addition to the city of Tampere, the new TAMK operates in the towns of Ikaalinen, Mänttä-Vilppula and Virrat, which are all located in the Tampere Region. The new TAMK main campus area is the biggest UAS campus area in Finland. Education as well as related research and development of the multidisciplinary university of applied sciences focus on technology, wellbeing services, business administration, tourism and culture. Åland University of Applied Sciences Högskolan på Åland Åland University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1997 by the Åland Provincial Government as a co-operative network for vocational higher education certified with a polytechnic diploma. On 1 January 2003 Åland University of Applied Sciences became permanent, when it merged with Åland Open University and changed its Swedish name into “Högskolan på Åland”. The institution offers seven degree programmes with a total of 400 students. In addition to that, the Åland Open University offers around 100 academic courses, lectures and seminars annually. A close cooperation and interaction with working life and society is essential. Åland University of Applied Sciences offers schooling in a wide variety of fields, with degree programmes in economics, maritime studies, technology, nursing & health care, and hospitality. Courses are generally taught in Swedish. Courses available in English are concentrated to the spring semester. Åland University of Applied Sciences offers its students a first-class learning experience; as only around one hundred new students are admitted to the different degree programmes annually, the class sizes remain small, enabling swift and easy communication between teachers and students. In order to provide students with international experiences and contacts, the university cooperates with various foreign institutions. Åland University of Applied Sciences is an active partner in networking activities and communication across national boundaries – in neighbouring regions, the Scandinavian countries, as well as in wider European and international settings.
