INTRODUCTION This Energy Saving Booklet has been produced to assist those running community halls in managing the energy use and hence the running cost of their halls. By following some of the ideas provided in this booklet you will be:Better placed to reduce the impact of energy costs on the finances of your hall. Additionally, by reducing energy use you will reduce the carbon footprint of the hall, which is a positive environmental action.
It was recently reported by “Bloomberg New Energy Finance” in a paper entitled “unwrapping British Energy Bills”- that domestic electricity bills might rise by as much as 54% by 2020. As the majority of community halls buy electricity at domestic rates this is a significant issue. Arguably the only way to mitigate that cost increase is by using less energy.
All community buildings are at the heart of their local communities, reaching out, inspiring people, providing useful space and acting as catalysts for change. From the management committee to the caretaker the cleaner, and the people involved in community , these buildings are all special. Many already tackle one of the greatest challenges of today: creating a more sustainable future for us all, within the limits of the planet’s resources.
