What's Brats?

Getting ready for the nature orientation walk at DVFC under close .'wwrVLS"nn from Jimmy Omar Sabah Club. Some might wonder why they are called BRATs. Some parents even have whether or not to send their kids to partici· pate in this pro gramme. Brats programme? But, aren't teenagers really 'brats'? Because they are bright, because they roving, it makes them 'annoying' teenagers.
The Brats programme is dedicated to young people aged 16 to 19 where they are exposed to the world of print journalism by involving them in the process ofwriting for a newspaper and getting them to learn about the environment and nature.
Thirty bright, roving, annoying teenagers were once again gathered in Kota Kinabalu fromNovember23-27,1996fortheBRATs workshop, part of the overall programme for the year organised by the STAR cation, a national-based newspaper and sponsored by Yayasan Sabah. '
The programme which was first introduced to Sabah through the BRATs Camp in August was launched by the Chief Minister, Datuk Yong Teck Lee on August 18, where he praised Yayasan Sabah for co
while programmes for the teenagers , especially during school holidays.
The highlight of the year's programme was the BRATs Expedi" held-at Danum Valley '-servation Area beginning December 14 - 22, 1996.
