UMS-YS Pemangkin Perkembangan Ilmu Kanak-Kanak

pendidikan awal kanak-kanak merupakan tahap yang perlu dititikberatkan disebabkan pada peringkat ini kanak-kanak mudah teradaptasi denganpersekitaran.

Sempenamajlisini,para peserta telah membuat persembahan koir, deklamasi sajak, pentomin, tarian rampaian dan lawak jenaka. Di sampingitujuga, satu pameran telah diadakan diruang Iegar Teater Mini YayasanSabah yang mempamerkan aktiviti dan kraftangan-para pelajar semasa menjalani program tersebut selama setahun.

Kerjasama yang terjalin di antara Yayasan Sabah dan Universiti Malaysia Sabah merupakan langkah positif dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan prasekolah khususnya di i.egeri Sabah. Demikian menurut .t'imbalanPengarah Yayasan Sabah Datuk Mohd. Tahir Jaafar di Majlis Penyampaian Sijil Pendidikan Prasekolah UMS-YSSesi 1999/2000 di Teater Mini Yayasan Sabah pada 30Maclalu.

"Saya percaya kegigihan guru prasekolah ini menjadi intipati pembentukan diri untuk menjadi pendidik anak bangsa yang dedikasi dan berwibawa,"katanya.

Menurut beliau us aha meningkatkan mutu pendidikan diperingkat prasekolah merupakan satu langkah penyediaan awal dalam melahirkan generasi muda 'ang berkualiti dari aspek fizikal J.anmental.

"Guru-guru prasekolah yang dibekalkan dengan ilmu, latihan dan kemahiran seharusnya melengkapkan diri untuk mendidik kanak-kanak agar menjadi insan yang kamil," tambahnya.

Sehingga kini, program yang dimulakan pada tahun 1970 ini telah melahirkan seramai 143orang pelatih. Pada majlis ini seramai 70 pelatih menerima sijil daripada Timbalan Naib Canselor Penyelidikan dan Pembangunan Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Mejar Prof. Dr. Kamaruzaman Ampon selaku wakil Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

YS MENANG EKSPO JUALAN IKS

Yayasan Sabah yang turut serta dalam ekspo Jualan Industri Kecil Sederhana (IKS) yang diadakan selama dua hari bermula dari 31 Mac lalu di Dewan Masyarakat Sandakan telah memenangi hadiah Gerai Paling Ceria dan Indah. Gerai Yayasan Sabah bukan sahaja mengadakan pameran tetapi juga menjual hasil barangan pengusaha IKS di kawasan luar bandar melalui aktiviti Bakti Ikhlas dan hasil kraftangan dari Pusat Orang-orang Buta Sandakan. Ekspo yang dirasmikan oleh Presiden Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan, Datuk DayangAdeline Leonginiadalah usahasama pihak FAMADaerah Sandakan dengan agensi Kerajaan Persekutuan, negeri dan swasta.

Ekspo tersebut turut disertai oleh pengusaha -pengusaha IKS di sekitar Sandakan seperti Tabung Haji, Jabatan Penjara Sandakan, FAMAdan BERNAS daerah Sandakan.

Secretaries Urged To Be Proactive

Secretaries are urged to have a positive attitude, creative thinking and to be proactive in their actions. This was said by the Deputy Director ofYayasan Sabah, Datuk Mohd.Tahir Jaafar in his welcoming speech at the official opening of the Sabah Secretaries Conference 2000 at Shangri·La's Tanjung Aru Resort onApril 18.

He said many individuals are trapped in a static situation no matter what their professions are. According to him one of our main weaknesses is always easy to find fault with somebody else as a scapegoat.

"We very seldom exercise self-evaluation let alone take appropriate actions to change the situation. I believe the issues and challenges regarding this critical action will be discussed in details during the conference,"he added.

On the other hand he said, the advancement of information technology has resulted in many implications with the way we work. As a result, there is a need for members of each organisation including secretaries to take stock of their strengths by emphasising on the totality of self-development including emotional intelligence.

A total of 164 participants who are engaged in secretarial and administrative functions such as executive secretaries, management secretaries, personal assistants, confidential secretaries, administrators and supervisors attended the two·day conference.

It was organised by Yayasan Sabah and Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) with the theme "I Can't Smell A Flower At A Distance".

The conference was aimed at providing participants with the confidence in themselves and in the things they do,either in their respective organisation or at personal level. Besides that the Conference also aimed at stimulating the participants to see the rationale behind the need for a paradigm shift in the light of the challenges brought about by external as well as internal changes in the foreseeable future. The Conference also gave the participants the opportunity to exchange ideas especially with their counterparts fromother organisations with the viewtofinding solution for job efficacy and self-development.

The topics of this Conference revolved around the intelligent dimension of doing things as called for by the happenings of the new millennium both for organisational and self-betterment. The topics presented were Achieving Excellence in the 21st. Century by Hamidah Hashim of HNH Resources and The Day The Eagle Took off and The Five Great Rules in Handling People by David Goh,arenowned international speaker.

The conference organised in conjunction with the International Secretaries Week was officiated by Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, Datuk Wences Angang. Among those who attended the function were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Wong Lien Tat and the Group General Manager of SEDCO, Datuk Pengiran Mohd. Hussien bin Datuk Pengiran Haji Mohd. Tahir Nasruddin.

Be Prepared To Face The IT Era

Secretaries should be prepared to face the era of information technology in the new millennium, said Deputy Chief Minister cum Miniser of Industrial Development, Datuk Tham Nyip Shen at the closingofthe Conference on April 19.

He said, information technology era is all about challenges and competitiveness and normally in a world of competitiveness, whoever is fast and equipped with knowledge willsucceed.

"Without strength, perseverance and knowledge, we will definitely lose and be defeated. To overcome these, secretaries should always take initiatives to improve and enhance their performance because acquiring knowledge is a continual process. It is also for our own benefits and for the organisation wework,"he added.

Accordingtohim besides knowledge on her works, a secretary should also be patient, efficient, trustworthy and have a high level of emotional intelligence.

Among those who attended the function were member ofthe Board of Directors of Innoprise Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Dr. Mohd. Fowzi Hassan Mohd. Razi, Deputy Director of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Mohd. Tahir Jaafar and Group General Manager of SED CO, Datuk Pengiran Mohd. Hussien bin Datuk Pengiran Haji Mohd.Tahir Nasruddin.

Meanwhile secretaries from YS/ICSB, SEDCO and other agencies took time offfrom their spouses and loved ones to enjoy themselves in various games at the "Floral Nite" following the conclusionofthe conference.

Among the highlights of the evening were longest-finger nail competition, biggest ear-ring contest, slow-motion walk and lucky draws.
