Our design approach is to revitalize ecological function and design recreational experiences with landscape resources for Thompson island. As landscape curators, we places landscape framework，corridor，and view shed to highlight the ecological, aesthetic, and educational identities for valuable areas, which were distributed throughout the island. Based on natural crisis and force, such as: sea level rise, storm flooding events, tidal currents, winds, we find out the disappearance of the island is inevitably happening.

Our first step is to study Boston Harbor islands’ edge types.

The edges are made up of collections of various types of wetlands. The unconsolidated wetlands swallowed up other important types, such as, salt marshes, emergent wetlands, which are important to wildlife shelter and ecosystem organisms.

Another serious case is the edge erosion, which impacts the vegetation health of woodlands along edges cliff. The island is transforming,changing,and undergoing natural development over a period of time.

GALLERIES The salt marsh plays an important role as a sediment trap. In this way, it regulates the water quality and helps stabilizing the coastlines. Those plants have a whole range of functions, filtering systems, retain sediments excess nutrients, which provide nursery for wildlife.

E M B R A C I N G WAT E R 2019 SITE: Red Hook Brooklyn

The variety of land uses on Red Hook creates unique challenges and opportunities for reducing coastal flood risks.

Open the waterfront through Valentino Pier to Canal’s inlet to make a new waterfront ribbon to public . Resilience garden,permeable layer, and flood protect structure will enhance the first buffer. There is a significant parks and recreation areas in Red Hook: the Red Hook. However, most of recreational space is under inefficient use.

One of the ball field is abandoned. Vacant lots and truck parking lots along Bread St are reflections of entrenched nature of industrial uses in Red Hook. It also reflects an overall lack of new development in the area and the relative oldage of buildings. Our strategy is to create new distribution of public green space through the entire community and connect the high point of land. The flood-able infrastructure, floating infrastructure,and green infrastructure are applied in our design intervention.

Red Hook’s residential area is surrounded by industrial and manufacturing lots. The Red Hook Houses make up over 60% of the residents living in Red Hook, and has 2,873 apartments with 6,500 residents . Our goal is to create effective solutions based on the characteristics of the community and strive to avoid the disasters caused by floods and rains, while creating a new series of coherent spaces for Red Hook, building a stronger community for the citizens and getting more environmentally friendly. The green drainage system is a new link connects waterfront,commercial,housing. We created a redirected runoff system with gradually elevation change that includes a system drainage garden parks, waterfront habitat garden and is able to complete the water purification process during the rainy season. The green ways are also create a new network for Red Hook community and outside which separate by the highway infrastructure.

The existing terrain has presented an opportunity for rejuvenation that poses a potential for establishing a new linkage to Buffaloâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s downtown corridor, river front, and surrounding neighborhoods. We envision a new green way that fuses the neighborhood and city through sweeping multi-functional spaces, positively contributing to the livelihood of the community and environment. The site renovation is challenged by the spatial conditions. These are characterized by elevated ramps, street partitions between parcels, water pollution, and old urban infrastructures, such as the drainage system. The design seeks to integrate existing urban dualities, rejuvenate the vacant parcels, and introduce programming for the Old First Ward.

The DL&W Corridor exhibits a remnant of Buffaloâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s industrial past. Cut in the middle of the Old First Ward is a palimpsest displaying varying topography and fragmented parcels that have developed from the rise and fall of Buffaloâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rail system and industrial past.

With the special location of the site at Buffalo Waterfrontďź&#x152;The design is intend to integrate the site form and function into regional scheme of water-scape, serving as buffer for water retention and quality management.

W AT E R S T R AT E G Y

In addition to the water systems helping to create natural water habitats, the green and blue infrastructure strategies further provide ways to connect to the river ecosystem. The design proposes a harmonizing between urban habitats and natural habitats, terrestrial habitats and water habitats; it will be designated with walking and cycling trails, active and passive activities within nature. The aim is to enhance the regional ecosystem by improving its diversity and connectivity.

Social and economic ills are significant in Binghamtonâ&#x20AC;&#x201C;lack of employment opportunity,lack of access and connectivity, poorly maintained public spaces, safety and crime issues, lack of affordable housing. At the same time, downtown is small and isolated, cut off from the Susquehanna River by Route 363 and from neighborhoods to the north by the Norfolk Southern Freight Railway (formerly a passenger rail line, but no more). To make matters worse, Binghamton is at increasing risk of climate change impacts and flooding, most recently during Tropical Storm Lee in 2011which caused a billion dollars of damage. City and State planning and engineering studies are ongoing. Landscape Architects are uniquely positioned to take the lead in confronting and overcoming these challenges. Design-strategies that bridge the gap between theory and practice while breathing life into Binghamtonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 21stcentury evolution.

ART PLAZA “ R I B B O N ” SITE: Cornell University Campus, Ithaca,NY

My design approach is to make the site a unique showcase for a collection of contemporary outdoor sculptures and land art ‘Ribbon’ for CALS. Additionally, the work comprises the siting of three Historic buildings , orchestrating current landscape relationships among architectural elements, and the establishment of site circulation systems.

Organize the collection of buildings east of Bradfield Hall under a uniform and centralized design language and logic; Balance and align the site’s axial relationships to accommodate future development along Tower Road; Expand landscaping to create variable social spaces; Improve accessibility across site and near ADA entrances; Establish a wide scope of potential spaces for art installations;

DRAWING PRACTICE DL&W Design The project focus on theIdeas themeCompetition of Vastness. It will consist of a series of assignments that investigates vastness materially, spatially and experientially. The notion of vastness in interiors is not a recent phenomenon. In his book, Delirious New York, Dutch Team:Terrain Collective architect Rem Koolhaas identified the invention of the elevator, the air-conditioning system and new structural system as the three most important contributors that permit buildings to be designed deeper, bigger and taller in the 20th century. In recent times, interior spaces have even gone even bigger. The Mall of Dubai, with a total area of 521, 127 square meters, is bigger than the Vatican City, which is only 440,000 square meters. On the other hand, cities are also beginning to build vast Underground spaces to alleviate crowdedness, to free up more open spaces for greenery, for storage of natural resources and for military uses. However, technological ingenuity has not necessarily translated into new spatial experiences. These vast interior spaces have remained largely as cathedrals of consumption and entertainment; the materiality and quality of spaces still mimic conventional interiors found in any buildings.

Therefore, through an interdisciplinary survey of vastness in the arts and guided by the following questions, the project seeks to imagine a renewed spatial and material language of vastness in interior environments.
