My capstone project is all about conversation. My goal is to create a new type of safe space, a brave space, for strangers to have open conversation. This phase of the project is heavily based in research and the start of concept design. The dinner party will pop-up in different iconic places around the city. This will not only allow people to explore these landmarks, but it will also spark conversation about the location and it’s history. The pop-up itself is also a conversation starter. From start to finish, this space will be a continuous stream of conversation.

I worked with the materials and FF&E in the public spaces in this hotel project. I collaborated with our renderer to get the correct specifications into the imagery we would show to the client. I collected and organized all specifications to send to the architect, contractor, and client as control samples. I selected finishes as needed and worked with vendors to customize tiles, metal meshes, painted plaster, and more.

The Cincinnati Public Library wants to build for the next generation. Therefore, we designed with three core design drivers in mind to shape the space: turning the pages of a book, circuit boards, and unique displays of art. Our first move was to encourage people to come into the space from the street through events and curiosity. After they entered the space, we had to keep them engaged, so we added colorful way-finding and interactive light displays that activated the ceilings and walls throughout. Because the CPL is all about flexibility, we made it easy to convert the space to the users needs with movable furniture, fluid walls, and multi-purpose millwork. This new concept was designed to create a space that invokes innovation and collaboration, and promotes learning and interaction in all those who use it.

This project was geared toward designing a workplace for a very particular client in mind. We were given a site, The Goody Shop, on the West Side of Cincinnati, to design a small marketing firm catering to zero-waste companies and the like. I created a look book of digital collages to designate a central aesthetic for the space. The idea of compression and release is common throughout the space to give a clear sense of public vs. private. I inserted a skylight that borders the central conference room ceiling to flood light into the workplace and as a way-finding strategy. I created a minimalistic, warm, and calming workplace in order to attract brands that align with the marketing firms values, make the space comfortable for all parties, and to promote creativity.

For this project, my team and I researched beauty and cosmetic trends in current and projected retail. Trends are constantly changing, so our challenge was to create a space that catered to current trends, but also outlived it’s original inspiration. Additionally, it needed to have new branding colors, indicating to customers that this section was trend, not regular cosmetics. We explored a few ideas and landed on two which had the most potential. I also designed store fixtures to reside in this section of the store.

Hunger and food waste are a major issue in the Cincinnati community, including the University of Cincinnati’s campus. I worked with the Bearcats Food Recovery Network to design a pop-up pantry to house recovered food from on and around campus. This food would be available to anyone who walked by its location. Our goal was to give easy access to the PUP by setting it up in a public space, which significantly reduced the stigma associated with food pantries. In addition, I designed a campus collection point where anyone can donate their unused, and unopened, food. The final design is a single unit that can be used for both the Pop-Up Pantry (PUP) and the Campus Collection Point (CCP). This unit allows the design to be flexible in housing the food collected or to easily move it around campus. I also worked on the branding for the organization.

Tasman East is a multi-family residence facility with a warm and natural aesthetic. I designed parts of the entrance and elevator lobbies along with aiding in material selection and organization. I worked with floor plans to design a brass metal accent embedded into the travertine floor to aid in way-finding and create movement in the floor plane. In addition, I designed a few options for the elevator lobby utilizing tile, wood, and metal elements.
