Led by young leaders, YATA Georgia is a non-commercial and non-governmental independent educational organization playing an important role in transforming young Georgians towards respecting liberal values, human rights and the supremacy of law. YATA Georgia promotes NATO-oriented researches and educational activities, encourages independent thinking, strives to establish debate culture among Georgian youth and supports Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration by engaging young people in decision-making process.

I want to thank frankly to YATA Georgia, to the representatives of the board, its members and partners for their direct and indirect help and contribution in 2016, including

participation in international and local conferences, etc.

Because of this, I’m really proud of the important role YATA Georgia plays for the young people giving them various opportunities, platform for expressing their opinions and a big source of motivation. YATA Georgia – this is an organization, where young people can discuss their generation’s problems and the possible ways of solving with the professional team. At the same time they acquire unbiased information about NATO and NATO-Georgia relations.

1. Trainings 1.1 Training in Marneuli On

February

26th,

2016,

within

the

framework of YATA Georgia’s Raising Awareness program, a training was held about NATO and NATO-Georgia’s relations in Marneuli, N5 public school. The trainers were: the General Secretary of YATA Georgia – Anano Samkharadze and the Analytical Officer – Meri Kapanadze.

2.2.

Training in Tbilisi N52 Public School

On March 22th, 2016, a lecture about NATO was held in Tbilisi N52 public school. The speaker was the Analytical Officer of YATA Georgia – Tamuna Jibuti.

2.3.

Training at Jinvali, Laparaantkari and Dusheti N1 and N2 public schools On April 4th, 5th and 7th, 2016, during the Week of NATO, trainings took place at Jinvali, Laparaantkari and Dusheti N1 and N2 public schools, organized by YATA Georgia and financially supported by the NATO

2.4.

Training about the Techniques of Public speaking

Within the framework of Farewell Address Competition a training was held by Gvantsa Sivsivadze about Public Speaking Techniques.

capacity building program Since 2015 YATA Georgia holds special program for membership candidates. The call for member candidates was announced on November 23th in 2015. If the person wants to become the member of YATA Georgia, it's important to confirm his/her volunteering willingness by making projects and writing essays/articles, also by being active during the different kind of events. Nowadays, the organization has 10 members, and the 9 is processing to become the member. It's also notable that YATA Georgia is taking care of members’ and membership candidates’ professional development by trainings and different kinds of activities.

2.1.

The modern tendencies in granting proposals and finding financial help, the identification of donors’ priorities.

On February 22th in 2016, YATA-Georgia organized training for its member candidates – “The modern tendencies in granting proposals and finding financial help, the identification of donors’ priorities”. The speaker was the founder and director of the center of governing the career and development resources – Tamar Gogadze.

Leadership skills and specific of public speaking

Georgia organized a training – “Leadership skills and specifics of public speaking”. The speaker was the doctoral student of conflict

analyzing of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, also the president of State University selfgovernment and the member of the debate council of the Georgian President – Shalva Sabauri.

“The fifth article of Washington agreement” and “the management of governing projects”.

3. Public lectures 3.1 Geopolitical interests of Iran in Georgia

In 2017, 17th of March, YATA Georgia organized a public lecture, Geopolitical interests of Iran in Georgia. The topic was presented by Vasil Papava, an expert on the Middle East issues.

3.2 The effectiveness of NATO peacekeeping missions. In 2016, 11th of May YATA Georgia organized a public seminar, which was lead by the former secretary of the organization Anano Samkharadze. The lecture was about the effectiveness of NATO peacekeeping missions. Students of Tbilisi public schools took part in the seminar

3.3 NATO-Georgia relations. YATA Georgia organized meeting with Mikheil Darchiashvili about NATO-Georgia relations. Students from different universities of Georgia attended the meeting.

3.4. Georgia and Western values.

YATA Georgia organized meeting about the importance of freedom, rule of law and individualism for the formation of strong civil society. The speaker was Levan Gigineishvili.

4. Other projects 4.1.

Debates: NATO Open Door Policy

In 2016, from 20 March to 2 April, YATA Georgia and Association of Young Initiators organized debates about the NATO-Georgia relations in Tbilisi State University and Free University. This project also contained trainings about the format of debates and NATO itself. Final round of debates was held on 2nd of April.

4.2 Farewell Address of NATO Secretary General

2016, 11th of April YATA Georgia organized the project “Farewell Address of NATO Secretary General”. Partner organizations were “Information center about the EU and NATO”, Embassy of Romania in Georgia and NATO liaison office in Georgia. The project was held within the framework of NATO week in Georgia. Participants wrote their speeches as the NATO secretary generals. Participants presented the important moments from NATO history and evaluated processes during the serving term of chosen secretary general. The participants were addressed by the ambassador of Rumania in Georgia, Dumirtu Badea and the head of NATO liaison office in Georgia, William Lahiu. The specially chosen jury announced the winners and awarded them by special gifts.

4.3. Students in Army for one day

In 2016, 4th of May YATA Georgia and The Ministry of Defence of Georgia organized a joint project in Vaziani, on the military base of the fourth mechanized brigade. The event aimed to involve youth in the process of European integration of Georgia and to raise the awareness about the foreign affairs and the security. Military personnel have shown the students the infrastructure, military technology and barracks of the military base. Also students were able to ask their own questions. The executive director of Atlantic Councils of Georgia, George Muchaidze gave his speech to students about NATO-Georgia relations. In the interactive

4.4. What? Where? When?

In 2016, 12th of May, YATA Georgia organized intellectual game What? Where? When? at Tbilisi State University. Partner organization was “Information center about NATO and EU”. Winners were awarded by publications and other gifts.

4.2.

NATO Weekend in Tserovani

In 2016, on 27th and 28th of May, YATA Georgia, The Embassy of Rumania and Info center about NATO and EU, organized project “NATO Weekend in Tserovani”. The first meeting was with the students from Tserovani public school. Training was held by an analytic officer of YATA Georgia, Tamuna Jibuti. On the next day, YATA Georgia organized discussion in the youth palace of Tseroani, which was attended by Radu Gorincioi (Embassy of Romania), George Molodini from the Ministry of Defence of Georgia ( Head of the department of strategic communications),

Tavartkiladze (Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European & Euro-Atlantic Integration). The moderator for the discussion was the executive director of YATA Georgia, Rati Bakhtadze.

4.6 Conference:“Warsaw Summitt – Results and Challenges”

In 2016, on 12th of November, YATA Georgia organized a conference for students: “The results and challenges of the Warsaw Summit”. Partner organizations were: Info Center about NATO and EU and Office of the State Minister of Georgia

European

&

Euro-Atlantic

Integration. Following topics were presented: 

NATO-Ukrainian relations and Euro-Atlantic security.

The dates of NATO membership - the reason of changing the foreign political direction. NATO-Georgia relations. 16


 The role of NATO in the migrant crisis  The Russian threat to the world politics.  NATO-Georgia relations according to the Communique of Warsaw Summit.  Cyber Safety-new challenge of collective self-defense.  NATO-Baltic countries. Participants were given special certificates. Three winners were awarded by gifts from “Bakur Sulakauri Publishing” and “Nick & Dave”. The participants speeches were recorded and shared online.

4.7.

YATA School

In 2016 from 12 to 25 December YATA Georgia organized a joint project with the Information center on NATO and EU, and Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European & Euro-Atlantic Integration. We organized the educational project “YATA School”, which provided participants special course –“Lectures about NATO”. The speakers from YATA Georgia and some special guests gave lectures about these topics: “NATO history and its objectives, tasks ad strategies”, “Founding issues and the right of self-defense”, “Georgia and the process of its Euro-Atlantic integration”, “Cyber-safety”. “NATO and its open door policy”, “NATO-Russian and NATO-Ukrainian relations”, “Maritime safety”, “Russian propaganda VS strategic communication”, “Judicial and actual condition of the religious organizations in the NATO member states”. YATA school also implied “study-teach” component. Best three participants will give lectures about NATO and Civil society in the regions of Georgia with YATA Georgia board members.

5. Participation in regional and international projects 5.1.

NORSEC 2016

In 2016, on 2th of April the executive director of YATA Georgia took part in the conference NORSEC 2016. The conference was about cyber security in modern warfare.

5.2.Crans Montana Forum In 2016, from 29 June to 1 July, the executive director of YATA Georgia took part in Crans Montana Forum, where he was elected as a member of the Future leaders for Tomorrow.

In 2016, on 13th of October the executive director of YATA Georgia took part in the assembly of ATA and YATA 2016 in Toronto Also, he was elected as a vice president on financial issues in YATA.

5.4.

Meeting with representatives of Brussels Main office of NATO

On 5th February in 2016 members of YATA Georgia attended a meeting with representatives of NATO Brussels. They discuss Georgia- NATO relations and the existing challenges.

5.5.

National Defense Course

During 29th November – 3rd December National Defense Course organized by LEPL Defense Institutional Building (DIB) and supported by Professional Development Program of NATO (PDP) took place.

The course was created according to the adapted courses in Scandinavia and Baltic

countries. It was held at the fifth time in Georgia supported by the Ministry of Defense of Estonia. Representatives of Ministry of Defense of Georgia, the Armed Forces, the Judiciary, nongovernmental organizations and media took part in the course. In 2016 the executive director of YATA Georgia Rati Bakhtadze passed the course, as well as - analytical manager Tamuna Jibuti in 2015.

5.6 Management of New Security Risks for Energy Currents in South Caucasus

5th-6th December in 2016 within the program of North-Atlantic Treaty Organization, Science for Peace and Security (SPS), the 19


seminar “Management of New Security Risks for Energy Currents in South Caucasus“ was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, and the representatives of YATA Georgia actively participated in the seminar.

5.6.

During

Discussion about Reserve Concept

March-June

in

2016,

the

representatives of YATA Georgia, Meri Kapanadze and Giorgi Nadiradze have actively participated in the discussion about the mobilization of Georgian Armed Forces and Reserve Concept with

other

non-governmental

organizations.

6. Analytical Activities 6.1.

Strengthening Peace and Security

The article “NATO’s Open Door Policy” written by the executive director of YATA Georgia Rati Bakhtadze and Vasil (Davit) Sikharulidze (Georgian Atlantic Board) was published in the magazine “Peace and Security Intensity” supported by Atlantic Treaty Association on 12 th July in 2016. NATO and The Baltic States

100 Facts about the NATO-Georgia’s relations

YATA Georgia has periodically published Educational Posters – “100 Facts about the NATO-Georgia’s Relations". The 50 posters were published in 2016.

6.5. Newsletters about NATO In 2016 YATA Georgia published Newsletters about NATO in English and Georgian languages. YATA Georgia published 6 brochures.

7. Social Media 7.1. Web-page YATA Georgia has its own website, in English and Georgian languages. All the news and event updates are published there. At the same time our board and members create articles and essays for the website.

7.2.

Facebook

YATA Georgia frequently publishes updates about organization’s activities on Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/YATAGEO/, in addition to, we share articles and reports of the Secretary General and other officials, and spread information about NATO-related international projects. The members and candidates for membership use Facebook for communication. On December 31, 2016, the Facebook page had 5 150 likes, compared to 2015 rates, it has 500 more likes. The Facebook daily visitors of 2016 on average increased by 124 % compared to the visitors of 2015.

7.3.

Twitter

YATA Georgia is trying to use various social platforms about the organization and its activities to make the information accessible for

public. That is why Twitter is actively used

(https://twitter.com/yatageo). Especially the last three months results should be noted.

7.4.

YouTube

In 2016, YATA Georgia has intensively used YouTube. Our “greeting video”, and all the presentations from the conference “Warsaw Summit: results and challenges" were uploaded on our channel. The number of visitors has significantly risen compared to 2015 index.

Flickr

In 2016, YATA Georgia created Flickr account (https://www.flickr.com/photos/yatageo/) where highquality pictures, taken during the YATA School, have been uploaded. The account will be actively used in a long-term future.

7.6. Issue In 2016, YATA Georgia extended social platforms and added Issue Account (https://issuu.com/yatageorgia). The members of YATA Georgia have the opportunity to publish articles and essays on it.

8. Social activity

25 December 2016 YATA Georgia organized social event – “New Year Eve party" for the representatives of the Board, the Supervisory Board, the former and active members, and candidates for membership.
