The initial idea was to look into the repurpose of abandoned or war torn buildings. The Egg is location in Beirut, Lebanon was originally designed as a cinema, part of a larger shopping center but construction halted in 1975 during the civil war. With my

current

exploration

centered

around

understanding the spaces created through voids and the occupation of music within those spaces.

PULLING FROM THE ORIGINAL DESIGN OF THE BAND WRAPPING AROUND THE EGG, THE DESIGN IS A VERSION THAT MOLDS AROUND THE EGG AND THEATER.

PUBLIC ENTRANCE

WRAP AROUND SKIN THE BAND IS A SKIN THAT IS ANGLED TO WRAP AROUND THE EGG IN A WAY THAT HUGS THE VIEW. THE METAL SHEETS ARE PERFORATED BASED ON THE OSCILLATION OF A SOUND WAVE, THIS IS A SYMBOL OF THE LEBANESE VOICE.


FACILITATING THE CURRENT PROGRAM OF HOSTING FILM, PERFORMANCE, ART EXHIBITS AND LECTURE PROTESTS, BY DEDICATING SPACE FOR AN ADDITIONAL THEATER, TUCKED UNDER THE CURRENT EGG. WITH ACCESS FROM EACH CORNER OF THE LOT, WHILE KEEPING THE EGG A SEPERATE ENTITY. THE EGG HAVING A SEPERATE ENTRANCE FROM THE ADDITIONAL THEATER FOR THE PURPOSE OF FEELING MORE LIKE A MONUMENT.

The Cube is a reimagined book browsing experience as a way of adding to the existing coffee shop and gallery space around the corner. The design is built based on a vertical and horizontal grid with breaks of program. The extruded blocks on the façade, aid to book and art sharing embedded into the building to encourage , molding the bookstore into the current surroundings.

The initial step of this project was getting a better idea of the site constraints by looking at the zoning and building codes of the neighborhood. Wanting to connect the surrounding residential area with the blocks of commercial, a hybrid of residential units and

Canopium is a community center designed to fill the social inequalities the neighborhood faces through medical and legal services to childcare and activity programs to support the residents around. The project form was designed based on the walkability of the site, with the use of canopies to shade outdoor spaces and encourage movement between. While the design is cascading in the direction of the sun to support the canopy as solar panels.

The process of understanding multi-unit housing is explored and studied through the Space Block Hanoi Model by Kazuhito Kojima. By extracting the volume of a singular unit and altering it to adapt to the current urban infill adjacent to the San Diego campus of Woodbury University to design student housing.
