DAY, THE GROWN-TALKER An exclusive interview with DAY the dreamer in chief Diawara Affoué Yasmine (DAY) calls herself out a dreamer, saying: <<in a dream, we are powerful! we can own situations we would be afraid to stand in front, in real life. In a dream, everything is possible, you can make anything happen. I feel like life is made to make dreams come true, to push boundaries, to imagine and live by your imagination to create what you dream of.

So I cannot agree more with Kobi Yamada who says “follow your dreams, they know the way”.>> Q: Yasmine, what does being a dreamer means to you?

It means being a champion A champion is on focus mode, doing what is dear to his/her heart. A champion dreams and achieve.

I dreamed 20 years ago about speaking English, and sharing my work findings, opinions, and story with the world to inspire, well, it’s my current life.

I believe we were born to create opportunities; to create something bigger than us.

What can seems like a mere thing or experience to you, may actually means the world to one person, don’t judge, just admire, appreciate, or get busy doing your thing. We all have a different relationship with things and situations. So don’t let anybody tell you what your dreams worth.

A champion dreams and achieve.

Q: Why is the discussion around self-confidence important for you?

I am a very enthusiastic person, very naive as my dad would often tell me when he wanted to bring me back to reality.

I understand what he tried to do because a lot of people couldnt”t understand me. I was too idealistic, too happy for no reason, therefore for some people I was not worthy to be taken seriously.

I have experienced a self-confidence crisis in my life 4 years ago, it happened after I left my job as an office manager for a digital marketing agency with no plan apart from the idea to launch a social initiative.

It was a crazy idea for I had no income and I was just guided by a dream, a feeling deep down my lungs. At that time I was wondering if I was not intelligent enough to do the very easy and basic tasks I was asked to at that former job, was it my fault?

This crisis just changed my happy mood into a weird alwaysquestionning, rolling-eyes mood.

It was a concentration of frustration regarding the ambitions I felt too far away from me.

I learnt on my own about overcoming self-pity, remembering who I was (a happy dreamer, very enthousiastic, always ready for challenges, adventures, dreams).

I felt alone during this experience and only had virtual friends (the youtubers who showed me the way to overcome this situation). Therefore I know it is something to talk a lot about as we talk about food, innovation, unemployment.

Q: You are Chalkboard Education Country Manager, an eLearning organization, and you have created Champions DNA (Dream & Achieve) aren’t you doing too much at the same time?

With Chalkboard Education I’m joining an amazing cause I love that is advocating for access to quality education for all, it is actually my favorite SDG because, I deeply believe that it can deliver us from poverty. As the dreamer I am, my dream was just linked to education (learning a language I would be working with and changing the world). So it matters to me a lot.

So I am not doing too much, I am trying to do much of my calling.

With English for Everyone we come with fun and crea7ve ac7vi7es to give free English Classes to kids (Average 8 to 12 YO) in public primary schools.

The aim is to build future bilinguals able to value and access lifelong learning.

We trigger the love for English in them, so that they are more aGracted …

Q: Your last words?

To the girls and boys who feel naive sometimes, different, thinking the world is fun, and dreams can come true, let me tell you that I have been naive enough to think so and it is quite rewarding because my wildest dreams are coming true. I am not telling you it’s easy, being naïve dosen’t mean being stupid. Be you, believe in you, believe in the beauty of your dreams.

I just watched a video where America Ferrera said: your identity is a superpower.

I’m telling you to own this superpower that only you got.
