About KAF Kolektif

KAF Kolektif is a Grassroots organisation formed in Kahramanmaraş to provide immediate aid to those affected by the earthquakes in south-eastern Turkey. In the immediate aftermath, they built toilets and a field kitchen where hot meals were prepared and served. Babylon

Alex Ford, 2021, digital, 3 minutes 16 seconds. Eponymous with the infamous Biblical city from which it draws its name, this piece explores the absence of identity, juxtaposing scale and grandeur with individual acts of violence.

Around the Corner

Anna Christophersen, 2020, digital, 1 minute 8 seconds. Structure and architectural form act as a climbing frame for unearthly beings to slide in and out of frames - in and out of existence - around the corner becomes known.

Hands vs. Feet

Anna Christophersen, 2021, digital, 2 minutes. Hands win, slashing the thin border between them with a sharp knife. This causes feet and the subsequent owner of these feet to fall through this border.

Artists

Alex Ford is a UK-based visual artist and filmmaker. His work generally attempts to rationalise universal feelings of nihilism, anxiety and mistrust through the prism of entertainment, varying between visceral tableaus and darkly humorous imagery. Mostly, he just has fun making stuff.

Anna Christophersen works with film, video and paper, as means to characterise both human and anthropomorphic life. She relays abstract interactions between characters exploiting their diffuse and facile nature. Works have been exhibited at Alexandra Palace, Manchester Art Gallery and screened at several film festivals.

Charles Jimenez (born 2001) is a creative director and visual artist whose practice revolves around film, performance, and visual arts. Their creations engage with surrealism, dreamscapes, and the spatial otherness of experience, where thoughts, memories, dreams, spirits, and metaphysics are material planes, and all bodies are aether realities.

Cult is an independent filmmaker from Hong Kong, cofounder of the collectives Sour Apple, Crimson Production, and The Mythopoetics.

Ela Kazdal is an artist filmmaker based in London and Istanbul, who reflects on her personal narratives through film and video. She has screened her films across venues such as the Everyman Cinema at King's Cross in London, Billytown in

14

the Hague, Æden in Berlin and Salt Beyoğlu in Istanbul as part of the 4th Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival.

Ellen Dunne is a multi-disciplinary artist from London whose favourite media to use are sculpture, film and sound. Her films resonate with the horror subgenre of camp. The choice of materials which would be considered a traditional art form e.g., etching and 16mm film combined with distorted lo-fi sounds and gruesome sculptures brings to life a macabre yet bright style of work.

Grace Baggott is an experimental filmmaker exploring sculptural methods of using analogue materials and apparatus. Her work often follows each component of analogue processes, drawing importance on the relationship between the intimate and tactile characteristics of the material, often hand processing and printing her films.

Isabella Josephine Leon is a filmmaker, animator, and photographer from St.Louis Missouri. She specifically likes bringing in a handmade and physical element to her environments using old and found objects in both her photography and film work. She also organises and produces music and film events with her other collectives Sour Apple, Crimson Production, and The Mythopoetics.

Isabel Paget is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring the merger of traditional and progressive art forms. With a fascination for the untouchable and eternal otherwise known as the forgotten she pulls things apart, destroys them, or journeys within them to see what lies between the surfaces of our perception.

James Riley is a third-year fine art student with a background in film and scriptwriting. He experiments with applying the artistic process to explore and uncover truth, implementing art creation as a primary-source research method. Following this trail wherever it could lead, James' most recent work engages with artificial intelligence, neuroscience, power and how technology, biology and culture converge.

Jemima de Jonge films show how naturally her drawings, sculptures, installations and performances merge into one gesture. Her film Uprooted, was included in the Korte Film Poul (Short Film Pool) in 2022 and got her to be selected as one of the "Badlands" film talents at the Eye Film Museum in 2021.

Lucy Ellis is an experimental 2D animator. She specialises in exploring the digital and analogue through process. Her work makes use of found materials which is explored particularly through collage animation.

Theodore Broughton (2001) is a Cornish-born filmmaker based in London. Creating films that involve aspects of documentary, narrative and installation filmmaking, his works can be presented in a variety of different forms. Specialising in 16mm film and DV, Theodore's interest in the material of the moving image is evident in his practice, which explores themes of home, spirituality and humour.
