Where We Belong at Chiang Mai is an extension of the inaugural reveal at To Chare in Bangkok.

The expression "house or home" is related to the continual inquiry of human experience through establishing meaning and analyzing the emotional state according to the artist's conditions. Combining the past and the present has taken us back to the transition time frame, when humans have been recording and exchanging messages between artists and audiences.

Initiated by Korakrit Arunanondchai and Akapol Op Sudasna, Ghost Foundation’s mission is to create a platform and foster a community for video and performance art in Thailand. By organizing the Ghost series and related activities, the foundation is committed to information accessibility and knowledge production.

OPEN FIELD is a Bangkok-based non-profit organization grounded in contemporary and everyday culture and knowledge as transformative power that can advance society. The platform undertakes research and educational programs, and aspires to sustain critical dialogue, improve access to knowledge and art experiences, and foster community.

Ghost 2565: Live Without Dead Time departs from an impasse produced by the lack of cohesion of time and space, and the tensions of contemporary life. The triennial video and performance art series takes Bangkok—its historical center in particular—as a physical palimpsest and metaphor for the incongruent visions that attempt to define this phantasmagorial city.

Ghost 2565: Hosts is a docent program in which embodied and situated knowledge of artworks and locations is shared with visitors within and beyond the local community

As a host of this project, I always had one question: how would the awareness of structural problems received from the interaction that happens in this event between arts, people, and locals create a new attitude and influence the society?

I was really intrigued by the concept and execution of this festival, which shows how different social issues and oppression intersect. They brought artworks from all over the world and put them in Bangkok, which made us realize that many other places are dealing with similar problems. It is a chance to learn from their strategies and maybe even use them ourselves.

The real challenge is finding ways to connect with the stories in the artworks and become a part of them. It made me realize that we don’t have to resist or struggle to understand them.

Understanding or connection with the content is a great starting point for further exploring. But you also have the freedom to choose how you want to experience the artwork comfortably, because it takes energy to engage with it.

The important thing is to look at everything from the local community’s perspective, which is what we’re interested in and what these activities are all about. If we want to help them, we should directly communicate with them. It would be great if they could join us, explore the artworks, and exchange opinions, especially, when we stay outside the exhibition area, it would be great too. These could be ways to strategically approach the work for us as hosts who tell their own stories.

• Researched the comparison of local history between official history and oral history

• Docent, guiding visitors through artworks and exhibitions

• Demonstrated strong teamwork skills, consistently coordinating with colleagues

• Engaged in conversations with viewers and locals to record new stories and exchange experiences

The reverence of the Thai people’s holiness often materializes through the creation of symbolic representations, such as idol worship, rituals, diverse modes of expression, storytelling, and physical objects. These creations stem from a deeply held belief in the presence of profound energy within them.

“Milkweeds” refer to a specific type of flower traditionally used to craft garlands for worship. However, with the rise in consumer demand and the commercialization of religious practices, entrepreneurs have opted to use plastic as a substitute material to meet the needs of consumers. While some individuals may be unaware of or question this artificial phenomenon, many accept it as the norm, similar to natural milkweed garlands.

“99 Sathu (blessing)” has become a widely used phrase within the Thai social platform, representing an altered lucky number. Online users commonly employ it to display respect for something, even with less effort. This phrase obtains positive feelings and a sense of involvement in other online users. Nonetheless, these actions primarily affect the user and do not significantly affect others. It reflects how individuals perceive themselves and their pursuit of personal comfort, contentment, and self-love. you wealth

“ From the flower shipping car in childhood memory to the exploration of where it comes from ”

Something’s destination could be the origin of another’s memory. Not a gentle or subtle meaning, but there is the scent of post-harvest flower solutions and the frozen floor at 3 AM, which is the relationship between them, their family, and the flower. This exploration is not only the way to answer the doubt about the stranger but also to get to know their identity better.

I have pondered the relationship between religion and commercials within Thai culture, and I want to investigate my childhood memory and explore the narrative surrounding our family’s flower business.

I dedicated myself to observing and documenting the journey of flower parcels from 5 pm - 2 am. On the last day of the program, I tracked their parcel progress from Pak Khlong market to my home, Sakaeo, the out-of-town province, and documented how my family embodied them into products.

‘Secret Body’

‘There is no definition that would define this body of mine. This body was all derived from inner consciousness through perception.’ Through gestures and melodies, we all release our emotions, desires, and sensitivity in this place. Through a body that glitters brilliantly and the glistening hues that spread in the background, but still keep it hidden from people’s eyes, showing only a small amount of satisfaction.

“Secret Body” explores the mysteries of the body that cannot be discovered by simple looking. We are all in search of the purpose to exist in a society that is fully comprised of obligation, discipline, and consciousness when one life begins. But everyone has hopes and desires that cannot be blocked by this belief as long as we are human beings with diverse and complex sentiments.

This exhibition features photographs that depict the story of the uncovered bodies. To encourage the understanding that the artists who own the body of work are individuals with real stories, just like everyone else, and that their gender status, identity, and expression belong to them.

“The sadness of facing time and change surrounded us, the fear of realizing that time is running out, and the desire to live as we wish. Language may archive certain things, but memory retains everything.”

Where We Belong

Where We Belong 2023 takes the idea of “the house or home” to expand the definition of meaning and emotional state by exploring conditions through the eyes of a gathering of artists who express them to the audience that experience together.

So, touching a “definition of the word house or home” connects us to the endless question of humanity’s experience. Furthermore, connecting the past with the present has led us back to a critical turning point. And, whether a conclusion can be reached or not, this period is regarded as a record of the artist’s narrative in the past of their other life, as told through the Where We Belong Exhibition, which sees humans as the linking of the way of life and understanding of identity in those lives as they change through demand and exchange of inspiration from overlapping information at each age.

Finally, where will the end of human satisfaction be in the six artists’ perspectives to provide an answer to the house or home, and what will we become as a part of this equation?

“ ‘From the flower shipping car in childhood memory to the exploration of where it comes from “
