THE EAGLE Newsletter from Yarnscombe Note from the Editors We can tell that Autumn has arrived. Heavy downpours of rain; strong winds meaning the leaves are being blown off the trees; and the increase in numbers of birds returning to our gardens. Sadly though the swallows seem to have started their long flight to warmer climates – the sky is so quiet without them! Hopefully some of you will be taking Brown Owl’s advice from last month and preparing your garden for the wildlife.

There are a lot of events to note in your diaries over the next couple of months with the run up to Christmas (there, we said it!!) in and around the village including activities in Torrington and Chittlehampton. See pages 9 and 10 for the full details. Following on from Councillor Morrish’s article in The Eagle last month with regard to the services being considered at North Devon Hospital, it has been further reported that there may be possible closures of essential services at North Devon District Hospital - A&E, Baby care unit, Maternity and Stroke unit. There is an online petition that as many people should sign as possible. The website address is: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/128996 As of the 6th September there is a new national phone number for customers to call should they need to report or get information about a power cut in their area. You can find some more information here http://ow.ly/iRDy3044EGL . Calls are free from landlines and mobiles. The Youth Group seem to have an exciting few activities and visits planned for the rest of the year, including a visit to Safe Haven Exotics during half term and making pottery during November. Full details can be found on the back page.
