Note from the Editor Hello everyone, and welcome to the summer Newsletter. At the time of writing we are enjoying (or not!) the heatwave. I hope you and your dogs have been finding ways to stay cool and safe. I know all the advice says that fans don’t cool a dog the same way as a human, but my two are definitely happy to test the theory and have a snooze in front of a fan. Of course they are just as happy to bake in the sun or in front of the fire whenever we light it too. As pet owners we sometimes have to step in and stop them from doing things which might harm them though. So, for Jack and Bella that meant that means keeping them from going out into the garden during extreme heat, and only having a short stroll early morning before it gets too hot. What methods have you found to keep yours cool and comfortable? We once used tea towels, soaked in cold water as a temporary neck tie on them when travelling on holiday during a very hot day with no air conditioning. Luckily when I drove with them to my parents in Northumberland last week (hottest day of the year so far), the tinted windows and working air-con were a godsend in our new dog mobile. I also bought a 12v fan with 2 heads on, which fixes to the back headrest and moves the cooler air into the boot. Add a coolbox full of lovely cold water bottles for our stops in the shade, the result.... 2 happy and stress free dogs on a 7 hour journey.
