In November 2024, we identified a new corridor to be monitored, the Índio River corridor, located in the municipality of São Miguel do Iguaçu. This corridor has approximately 25 km² of forest spread across 10 properties and is of extreme importance, as we have already recorded a young jaguar in the area
The sampling grid will have 18 points, and we will sample from its source to its mouth at the Iguaçu River In February 2025, the project team will visit all properties to explain the importance of monitoring and obtain the necessary permissions for the installation of sampling points, which will occur in March. Each point will have a camera trap that will remain active for 90 days

It is essential that the municipalities in the surrounding regions implement effective population control campaigns for dogs in rural areas, as well as immunization campaigns against rabies, associated with health education initiatives.

The Project Jaguars of Iguaçu Project worked in partnership with Proyecto Yaguareté, Aves Argentinas, and Fundación Vida Silvestre to implement coexistence strategies between humans and jaguars in the Peninsula region, located in the municipality of Andresito, province of Misiones. This area is adjacenttotheIguaçuandIguazú National Parks, as well as provincial parks. The region had been facing serious conflicts characterizedbyjaguarattackson domesticanimals, generatingfear among residents and risks of retaliation. Three expeditions werecarriedouttotheregion, and during these visits, we conducted technical activities, including training for the local community, response to predation incidents, and inspections of properties to provide guidance and implement management changes as preventive measures. During the theoretical training, topics on feline biology were covered, including their behavioral and physical aspects, strategies for coexisting with big cats, and analysis of case studies from Brazil.
The practical training for responding to predation incidents involved simulating attack scenarios by jaguars, pumas, and dogs. We also simulated response procedures and approaches to people in situations of fear and nervousness, aswellasfootprint identification.
Members of the Proyecto Yaguareté, Aves Argentinas, National and Provincial Park Rangers, and Fundación Agroecológica Iguazú teams were trained. A coexistence working groupwasestablishedfortheregion.
