About me

My name is Yara Al Ali, an interior designer with a strong academic background and experience in the field of design. I obtained my degree in Integral Design and Image Management from Rey Juan Carlos university in Madrid, where I gained knowledge in graphic design, object design, spatial design, and image management.

Additionally, I successfully completed my master’s degree in Interior Design at IED, which has allowed me to further develop my skills in this field.

My strengths include meticulous attention to detail, creativity in finding innovative solutions, ability to work under pressure, and solid problem-solving skills. I am committed to creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and inviting for those who inhabit them.

I am enthusiastic about the prospect of contributing to projects that push the boundaries of my creativity and enable me to continue evolving as an interior designer.

Project Name: COLIVING MATADERO

Master’s thesis IED

Location: Madrid

Date: 2023

In my Master’s thesis project for the Interior Design program at IED, I address a significant issue in Spain: 57.3% of the population experiences unwanted loneliness, with consequences amounting to an annual cost of 14 million euros due to health problems.

Furthermore, overcrowding and gentrification in cities like Madrid make finding decent housing a challenge. As a solution, I propose the design of a Coliving space in the heart of Madrid’s Matadero, offering both short and long-term accommodation. This space will foster meaningful connections and healthy social relationships, addressing these issues.

Exterior view of the kitchen-dining area. Residents have generous space where they can enjoy shared lunches or even cook together. Additionally, they have a lovely outdoor garden where they can enjoy fresh air breakfasts. Access to the main hall. It features a spacious common area, furnished with designer pieces, such as the Ekstrem modular armchair, Pipistrello lamp, or the Groovy armchairs.

COLIVING MATADERO

The common area for long-term residents features a striking spiral staircase, notable for its color, leading to the library area.

The coliving space is divided by large walls of paving stones that allow natural light to enter. Iconic design pieces are incorporated, such as the Maralunga armchair or the Standing Lamp No. 1.

Furniture items like the Togo armchair or the Standard stool by Jean Prouvé are notable highlights.

Isometric view of a residential unit designed for short stays, equipped with all the basic necessities. Inspired by the modular architecture of Jean Prouvé, it features circular windows, evoking the efficiency and aesthetic of his designs.

A central fixture hosts the restroom area while offering storage space. The front wall made of paving stones allows ample natural light, fostering a cozy and luminous ambiance.

RUM RUM BREAD & COFFEE

Project Name: RUM RUM BREAD & COFFEE

IED Master Workshop with DIIR

Studio

Location: Madrid

Date: 2022

The workshop project with DIIR Studio involved designing a bakery/ café in the center of Madrid. The main feature was the incorporation of a central piece that housed all essential functions of the establishment. To achieve this, a notably sized piece was chosen, clad in yellow tiling that contrasted with the micro-cement used on the walls and floor of the premises. This combination of materials and design reflected the attention to detail and aesthetic focus of the project, resulting in the creation of a unique and memorable space.

AEG Kitchens Contest.

Location: Madrid

Date: 2024

Designed for the AEG Kitchens Contest, this project showcases a fully equipped kitchen, specifically tailored to meet the needs of a couple. The combination of materials plays a central role in the kitchen’s aesthetic: warm, natural wood contrasts elegantly with the marble used on the countertop. This contrast creates a balance between rustic and modern, adding a touch of sophistication to the space. Additionally, wood is not limited to just the furniture but also extends vertically along the wall, creating a sense of continuity and harmony in the design.
