Self-Reflection

PROJECT 1: NARRATIVE PROGRAMMING – “THE THEATRIC” In groups of five, students immerse themselves in the world of cinema, selecting a genre and film as the basis for crafting a multisensory stage experience. Genres range from Thriller to Sci-fi.

Through in-depth analysis of characters, plot, emotions, and symbols, they intricately weave the five senses—touch, taste, sound, smell, and sight—into their stage design. Using "narrative programming," students seamlessly integrate these elements, creating an immersive encounter that captures the movie's essence. The result is a purposeful, functional, and enjoyable design with at least five settings, each catering to one of the senses, enhancing both audience and performer experience.

PROJECT 2 : MODEL Task 2A involves creating a 1:50 scale physical model of the entire REXKL building, my group were focusing on the "Ground to First Floor" category within the studio. The building is divided into four categories and further into four groups each. Sturdy materials will be used, and components should be openable for better interior understanding.

Lecturer-provided SketchUp and AutoCAD files aid the modeling process.

Task 2B Each student in the group produces a representative model of their assigned interior area on a minimum A4-sized base. The model aims for conceptual clarity, showcasing materials and ideas with meticulous workmanship, subject to tutor approval.

FINAL PROJECT: “ARTS AND CULTURE CENTRE” In crafting an immersive Arts and Culture Center, students utilize Narrative Programming, integrating a chosen movie genre and sensory elements. Through a comprehensive site study, they align spatial programs, target users, and address pertinent issues, ensuring seamless integration with the provided site. Working in pairs, students harmonize sensory experiences, such as touch, and a shared movie genre to inspire the center's aesthetics, design concept, and spatial arrangements.

Collaborative efforts yield a cohesive setting design, aligned with the chosen genre and sensory elements, fostering a captivating and immersive environment that enriches the Arts and Culture Center's overall experience.

Self-Reflection

To align with the MIID project, we needed to incorporate the five senses into Project 1 and choose a corresponding film based on the movie genre.

I chose "touch" as my theme, although it was a complex and challenging task at the time. Solutions often involved clever use of materials, but the actual procedures were relatively limited, causing some frustration during Project 1.

In the final project, we collaborated in pairs, each responsible for individual parts while jointly completing the spatial design. With no language barriers, communication with teammate was smooth, allowing us to express ideas effectively and ensure the collaborative space's perfection. Collaborating with teammate was a fun and enjoyable experience, where I learned a lot and gained additional inspiration. In this final project, I discovered the importance of daring to imagine the potential of spaces to create more exciting and interesting designs.

Lastly, I realized the need to improve time management skills in the future.
