The government has announced it will continue to provide support for small businesses by extending the $20,000 instant asset write-off limit for a further 12 months until 30 June 2025.
Under the measure small businesses with an aggregated turnover of less than $10 million, can deduct:
• the full cost of eligible depreciating assets costing less than $20,000 that are first used or installed ready for use between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025
• an amount included in the second element (cost addition) of eligible depreciating asset’s cost that they have incurred between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025, if they claimed an immediate deduction for the asset under the simplified depreciation rules in a prior income year where the amount is:
∘ the first amount of second element cost incurred after the end of the income year in which the asset was written off;
∘ and less than $20,000.
The $20,000 limit under the measures applies on a per asset basis, so small businesses can instantly write off multiple assets.
Assets valued at $20,000 or more can continue to be placed into the small business simplified depreciation pool and depreciated at 15% in the first income year and 30% each income year after that. In addition, pool balances under $20,000 at the end of 2024-25 income year can be written off.

INDUSTRY LEADING TECHNOLOGY
Yamaha utility SSVs run our proven Ultramatic® automatic transmission system. This system of variable sheaves maintains belt tension to result in one of the most durable automatic CVT systems available. The system’s centrifugal clutch maintains constant belt tension that eliminates slipping and slamming of the belt at idle or engaged.
This smooth progression prolongs belt life, reduces heat and improves durability. Yamaha’s Ultramatic® drive system is constantly variable so it maintains smooth drive in all conditions. It provides peak torque and instant pulling power for the job at hand and has the most natural downhill engine braking of any utility CVT transmission on the market. This allows the rider to focus more on the trail and makes for a more relaxing ride.
Peak torque for instant pulling power
Superior all wheel engine braking
Constant belt tension
Specially designed air intake

Yamaha was the first motorcycle manufacturer to recognise a need to produce a motorcycle specifically designed for Australian farmers’ needs.
So a group of Yamaha Motor Corporation engineers were sent to Queensland in the early 1970s to design the first official AG bike. After speaking to the farmers and local Yamaha dealer, the design team discovered a need for a motorcycle that could be used to muster cattle, undertake fence control and check on water holes across a range of countryside ranging from hard rock to sandy creek beds.
They came up with the AG100 which was launched in 1973 and based on the LT1 two-stroke. Additions included high mudguards with mudflaps, fully enclosed chain, bash plate, rear and front carriers, beefed up suspension and a set of steel hand guards to prevent fingers being crushed by trees and to keep levers intact in the event of the bike being dropped. The rear rack was large, and a comprehensive external toolbox was fitted underneath.
This model featured a wide, flat top ridged fuel tank designed to carry sheep, a foam air filter, engine guards and side stand on each side of the bike so it can be easily parked on any slope.
These two models were so successful that the Yamaha term ‘AG’, used for these models is still the generic term for farm bikes. Soon they were imported to New Zealand, and later to the Middle East and Africa.
THE NEW GEARBOX THAT HAD NEUTRAL AT THE BOTTOM, INSTANTLY BECAME ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FEATURES ON THE NEW BIKE.
But what was really special about the first AG bike was its gearbox that had neutral at the bottom, making selection easy. YMC engineers discovered that farmers worked a lot of gates and so often needed to find neutral to keep the bike running when pulled up next to a gate. The new gearbox instantly became one of the most popular features on the new bike. Two years after its successful launch, Yamaha introduced a DT175-based version called AG175.
With a need to keep ahead of competitors who finally started to enter the AG market, Yamaha launched the AG200L in 1984.
This was a ground up, purpose built four-stroke farm bike sporting all the features that made the two-strokes popular with the added bonus of monoshock suspension and a plush single seat.
More recently, Yamaha has released the AG125 which continues to offer the trouble-free features that farmers demand such as reliable four-stroke power, twin racks, a fully enclosed chain, sealed drum brakes and electric start.
Australian farmers continue to see the attraction of simple, reliable, economical transport to convey themselves huge distances over inhospitable terrain.
