In the 1960s, Mr. Leo Lake, National Service Manager for what was then Yamaha International Corporation here in the United States, realized that the two-stroke sport cycle market needed a high-quality oil that enhanced reliability, durability, and dependability, because “off-theshelf” powersports oils simply didn’t live up to Yamaha’s standards.

Encountering some service issues in the early ’60s, Lake became convinced the problems he was seeing had to do with poor lubrication from oils available to consumers at that time, and not the engines themselves. So, over a span of two years, he focused on the lubrication side of the problem. After testing hundreds of oil blends, Lake developed an exceptional oil that, in 1967, became the iconic YAMALUBE brand. To this day we still embrace his uncompromising commitment to quality and performance. Yamaha Motor Company, Ltd., Japan, advanced Yamalube worldwide in 1992 with the creation of the first Yamalube Oil Committee. This committee, consisting of Yamaha engine design engineers and our own oil specialists, was tasked with approving and maintaining quality control over all proprietary Yamalube oil blends. Within the year, the committee had standardized land 2-stroke and 4-stroke specifications that performance classification

But with so many parts and components rotating and revolving at high speeds, tolerating high stresses, and withstanding high temperatures, it is a harsh environment. So if it is the heart, the oil is the blood. And just like blood, oil has many roles to play in keeping the engine healthy and long-lasting. "Oil is essential for an engine, like the blood in our veins. We don’t usually think about our blood’s condition in our daily lives. It’s the same with engine oil; most people don’t think about it. But it’s circulated throughout, just like our blood. Why You Need to Regularly Replace Your Oil Engine oil is vital to the operation and performance of the engine, and its effectiveness gradually decreases with use. Leaving oil to degrade without replacement can lead to poor engine performance and, in the worst-case scenario, total engine failure. To ensure your Yamaha’s engine remains in the best condition possible, schedule and carry out regular oil changes as part of preventative maintenance.

Key Differences: Car Oil vs. Motorcycle Oil Although they predominately use a 4-stroke format, motorcycle engines and car engines are fundamentally different. Motorcycles typically rev much higher than car engines and produce much more power per cc of displacement. They also have to lubricate the entirety of the power unit (engine internals, clutch, and transmission) while cars have separate dedicated systems for each.
