NROTC Alum Named as Friendly Fire: Handsome Dan Exercise in Teamwork, Caretaker Coordination, & AvoidMIDN Yang ing Yellow Paint On 26 March 2021, Yale announced that the new caretaker and handler of its bulldog mascot, Handsome Dan, would be Kassandra Haro ‘18, a former member of the Yale NROTC unit. An unfortunate medical disqualification in her senior year prevented Ms. Haro from commissioning in the US Navy. Luckily enough, Ms. Haro, who had worked all four years as an undergraduate tour guide, was offered a temporary job at the Yale Office of Public Affairs and Communications (OPAC). MIDN Calvert This March, midshipmen were vaccinated by the Connecticut National Guard at Camp Nett in Niantic, CT. Yale NROTC was one of the first units in the country to have this opportunity. Taking proper safety precautions, midshipmen traveled to Camp Nett on the morning of March 13th with their respective companies. Midshipmen received the Pfizer vaccine, returning on April 10th for their second dose. Thanks to careful coordination by the unit and battalion staff, the process ran smoothly and efficiently.
