Signature Verification.

Your signature, whether in print or cursive, is compared to the signatures we have in your voter registration record. Trained election officials verify each and every signature.

Action Required.

If the signature on your ballot isn't similar to a signature in your voter registration record or if your signature is missing, don't worry. You can still "cure" your ballot so it counts. We will contact you by mail, phone, email, and text.

The Power of Your Signature.

Your signature validates your ballot, your choices, and your participation in the democratic process.

Tips for making sure it counts.

• If you registered online, check the signature on your driver's license or ID. That's the signature we're using to compare to your ballot signature.

• Your signature doesn't need to be written in cursive or even be legible. It just needs to match what we already have on file for you.

• If you aren't sure what signature you might have used, before you vote, send us a signature update form and we'll update your record. Visit www.yakimacounty.us/vote.

City and Town Mayors and Councils

Duties

City and town governments in Washington are classified according to their population at the time of incorporation or reorganization.

There are four basic classifications for cities and towns in the State of Washington: first class cities, second class cities, towns, and code cities.

Although some of the state laws are the same for all classes of cities, many of the laws are different.

In addition, there are two types of government for the cities and towns in Yakima County -the mayor-council form of government, and councilmanager. Each type of government gives councils and mayors different responsibilities and authority under the law.

In general, elected mayors and city councils act as the official legislative and policy making body for the City adopting all laws, ordinances, and resolutions, levying taxes, and approving contracts required by the City. The Council analyzes proposals to meet community needs, initiates action for new programs and determines the ability of the City to provide financing for City operations. The Council also reviews, modifies, and approves the annual budget. Additionally, the City Council performs other miscellaneous duties, including appointments to various boards and commissions, acts as liaison with other governmental bodies, and responds to community groups and individual constituents.

Qualifications

A candidate for mayor or council must be a registered voter within the city limits.

A candidate for a city council district position must be a registered voter in the city limits and reside within that council district.

Code cities require candidates to be a resident of that city for one year.

Candidates must possess all qualifications at the time of filing for office.

Statement

I am endorsed by the Yakima County Republican party. I want to make a change in the direction of our education system in Selah. Statement

Creating a safe school environment that fits within a shrinking school budget is critical. One step is a zero-tolerance policy against bullying. Another approach is to expand students' knowledge to include learning beyond what is measured by the SBA and i-Ready Assessment. Students need age-appropriate expertise and practice in critical thinking, collaboration, managing their emotions positively, and effective communication.

The Selah School Board does a commendable job. With my experience working with youth, a fresh perspective on Selah and its schools, serving on a school board budget committee, and running a profitable small business, I ask for your vote.
