The purpose of the project was to design a housing complex in the “Scalo Vanchiglia” district of Torino: an area characterized by a heterogenous urban fabric that features a mix of residential, industrial, manufacturing zones, and tertiary activities, several vacant plots, and a close proximity to the Monumental Cemetery. The design of the housing complex was based on a thorough study of a series of examples of residential buildings from

from the 20th and 21st century. The exercise was meant to question the traditional understanding of individual authorship and original work, radicalizing the idea that all architecture comes from previous architecture. By applying the idea of “post-production” to architectural design, the focus is shifted from the creation of new forms to the montage of found ones.

The Design Unit addresses the issue of quality in reference to the phenomena of large scale urbanization in the Chinese city through a collaboration with Vector Architects who have their headquarters in Beijing, China. The construction of hundreds of new cities is progressing rapidly all over the Country without stratification or diversity. The goals of the atelier include: mapping grounds and morphologies, mapping the

city as a research project, and mapping a case study of the Chengxiang Old Town located thirty kilometers north of Chengdu, China. Throughout the analysis of the city, two key networks were identified: the first one relates to the heritage material , while the second to the existing industrial fabric. Both of the networks have characteristic features which compose the identity of Chengxiang.

While the heritage is well connected with the natural component of the analyzed area, the industrial layer has a stronger relationship with the infrastructure.

Both systems work as magnets, attracting people, development opportunities and economic potential.

PRIENE ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE AND MUSEUM

The graduation project is an independent working process where nominees of the profession prove the accumulation, level of knowledge and professional abilities. Considered one of the oldest settlement areas, Priene is in Güllübahçe, a village near the Söke district of Aydın province. The origin of the city was a peninsula with two ports. Today, Priene, which was once considered a port city, is far from the sea due to the accumulation

of alluvium that is carried by the Menderes River. Throughout its history, Priene has lost its port city features and as a result its intrinsic value. Nevertheless, the city carried great importance during the Hellenistic and Roman ages. Priene is one of the best-protected ancient cities built with the Hippodamian Plan system. As design criteria, continuing the effect of the grid system designed by Hippodamus at the site area carries great importance.

The site area was divided according to the grid size of Priene and organized along three important axes. Connecting the most important buildings, the three axes, are the most important in the Priene ancient city masterplan. Considered the most important three buildings in Priene, the Temple of Athena, the Holy Stoa and the Ancient theatre, have been used as reference for the project in terms of units size. Museums have been divided into three functional units: research training centers, recreational use spaces, and exhibition spaces. Units are positioned around a courtyard that orient toward Priene and are connected through canopies which not only emphasize the grid system but also help to increase the shaded areas in the project area which is located in a hot climate zone.

CITY THEATRE BEYOGLU STAGE

The project aims to design in line with the idea of Şişhane Square, which was proposed during the 18th century, where the radial roads were built but squares were never implemented. This urban planning approach makes the connection between two touristic areas, and emphasizes the significance of the streets connecting Şişhane and Galata, which had great value in terms of tourism in the past but in time has lost its significance. The design approach

attempts to regain the importance of the streets by creating connections with the existing passages and the square. Considering the advantage of the location being in the center of cultural events and its accessibility, the project area is appropriate for designing a cultural center. The historical Beyoğlu tax building located in the project area was of great value to the project.

Isometric Axonometry

The passages on the ground floor provide accessibility between the streets and the square and highlight the entrance. Rather than being composed of a rigid and solid mass, the building shape has been designed to invite people from all around. In an attempt to relate to the textures in close proximity, corten was chosen as the material of the outer shell. In addition, the connection between the foyers and the gallery spaces in the interior of the building, provides free and open spaces for a multitude of programs and events.

This project is a collection of construction documents for a dental clinic. The goals for this project include: deeper understanding of project implementation, system details, and to gain knowledge of multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary design. WSterilization and patient comfort have been the main components in the design of the project, and materials have been chosen in order to reflect those design decisions.

Within the scope of the project, all necessary dimensions for construction, installation plans, references, and drawings with all components fully specified in the project are included at different scales. Working in a variety of scales aid in the understanding of the final stages of a projects design and the workings of a construction site. The project began at a 1/200 scale and was detailed at the 1/1 scale.

How a design is presented has just as much significance today, as the design itself. Thus improving visualization skills in design and presentation carries great importance. The following is a selection of personal work create with a desire of self-improvement in this field. The programs used include but are not limited to: Rhino, Vray, and Adobe Photoshop. These works improve the skills of visualization in architectural design and presentation.

The overall goal is the practical expression and preparation of simple but highly valued graphic presentations. In this direction, visualization studies strengthen both the schematic and diagrammatic expression of a project, which helps the project to be better understood. A unique expression technique has been studied by thinking out of the box using different type of elements on design expression templates.
