STAR CLIPPERS NEW YOGA-THEMED SAILINGS FOR SUMMER 2023

The tall-ship cruise line has continued its popular yoga sailings programme with the addition of qualified instructors on board selected sailings in summer 2023.

Guests can take part in complimentary, daily classes throughout 8 sailings on board Star Clipper from April – October, visiting ports of call in the Western Mediterranean. CHARTERING A YACHT FAQ’s

Q: WHY SHOULD I USE A BROKER WHEN CHARTERING A YACHT?

A: As the ultimate luxury holiday, a yacht charter should be tailored uniquely to your needs and preferences. Our experienced brokers will be able to understand what kind of charter experience you want and use their global network of over 3,000 luxury yachts for charter to find all available yachts that match your requirements. Using their extensive local knowledge, your broker can then work with the Captain to advise a charter itinerary that is totally unique to you. Should you have questions at any stage of the charter process, your broker will be available to assist.

Q: IS THERE A CONTRACT INVOLVED?

A: Once you have decided you wish to proceed with booking the charter, we will issue you with a contract. This is likely one of 2 standard contracts depending on the cruising region. The most common is the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) charter agreement, endorsed by a leading London maritime lawyer. This contract has evolved over the last 20 years and is now regarded as the reliable industry standard. The

2-part American Yacht Charter Association (AYCA) agreement is primarily used in the U.S. and with U.S. flagged vessels, also adopting terms from the MYBA agreement.

Q: WHAT ADDITIONAL COSTS WILL I PAY ON TOP OF THE CHARTER RATE?

A: What is and is not included in your charter rate varies from yacht to yacht and you may be expected to pay the following in addition to the set charter rate:

• APA - The APA or Advanced Provisioning Allowance represents the operating expenses that you will incur during your stay on board, including but not limited to: fuel, berthing fees, customs charges and food and beverages.

• shipping/supply agent fees

• local taxes

• delivery fees

Your broker will be able to advise on all additional charges during the process of selecting your charter yacht.

Q: WHEN DO I TRANSFER FUNDS?

A: In most cases you will be required to pay (by wire transfer) a deposit of 50% of the total charter fee upon signing the Charter Agreement.

The remaining 50% of the charter fee plus the APA and any applicable taxes, delivery fees and security deposit are due one month before the beginning of your charter.

Q: HOW DOES THE CHEF KNOW OUR LIKES AND DISLIKES?

A: Culinary excellence is often the highlight of any charter and your yacht’s chef will customize this. Prior to your charter we will ask you to complete an information sheet noting your culinary preferences or any special dietary requirements, beverages, newspapers, flowers or other special requests. Details on any medical issues, allergies and special occasions can be noted. We encourage you to divulge as much information as possible to give the crew a detailed understanding before you step on board.

Q: WILL THE STEWARD/STEWARDESS DEAL WITH MY PERSONAL LAUNDRY?

A: It is common practice on most yachts for small quantities of personal laundry to be carried out by the yacht’s crew as a service. Please note that these terms also allow the crew to refuse politely to do excessive quantities of laundry on board or to handle particularly delicate items. It may be possible to have certain laundry done ashore professionally if time allows, the cost of which will be deducted from the APA.

Q: DO I PAY A GRATUITY?

A: If your charter has been everything you hoped it would be, by all means show your appreciation with a gratuity. However, please note that although crew gratuities are customary, they are left at your sole discretion. As a guideline, we would suggest between 10% and 20% of the charter fee to be split equally between the crew depending on the level of service.

Q: CAN I SMOKE ON BOARD?

A: In most cases, smoking is not permitted inside the yacht for safety reasons. Many yachts operate a policy of smoking permitted on deck only, however, please check the policy as each yacht varies in their approach to smoking on board.

SUNSAIL LAUNCHES SPECIALIST ITALIAN CUISINE PONZA FLOTILLA

For foodie-travellers looking to discover Italy’s best kept culinary secrets, Sunsail, the global yacht charter company that offers sailing holidays to first time sailors and experienced adventurers, launches a specialist Italian Cuisine Ponza Flotilla by SailEATtalia for the 2023 season.

With departures available from July 2023, guests will be taken on a gastronomic adventure, setting sail along the sun-soaked Amalfi Coast to the Pontine Islands to uncover Italy’s delightfully authentic and local cuisine.

The flotilla begins in the glamourous port town of Procida, with picture perfect pastel houses and indigo seas. Guests will be given a warm Italian welcome with drinks and a pizza party. A short crossing towards Ischia on the second day takes guests to the port town of Forio.

The artisanal restaurant on the side of the mountain provides a breath-taking backdrop to sample wines from the traditional wine cellar.

From there sailors will head towards the island of Ventotene, stopping in the harbour of Porto Romano. In the evening guests will enjoy a traditional meal in one of the local restaurants. On day four, the flotilla will make its way to Ponza, an island rich in history dating back to the Egyptians, renowned for its unspoiled beaches, blue caves, and shipwrecks, it is ideal for diving enthusiasts.

Before sailing back to Ischia, the group will visit uninhabited Palmarola. With a rugged landscape and hidden caves, and thriving flora and fauna, this island is an idyllic destination for exploration, diving, and swimming. In Ischia there will be plenty of free time to stroll round the artisan boutiques before visiting one of the oldest wineries of the island, where guests can indulge in traditional Italian cuisine.

SAVING SEA TURTLES ONE SIP AT A TIME

Lost Years is the spirits brand with a purpose –a range of exceptional rums devoted to saving endangered sea turtles ...

Last November, ‘Lost Years Rum’ celebrated its 2nd anniversary after launching at the height of lockdown in 2020 with a single mission in mind. Save endangered sea turtles.

For every drop of rum sold, it pledges a portion of sales to charity and has raised more than $5,000 already. In these two years, it is has saved over 55,000 baby sea turtles following recent donations to global partner charity SEE Turtles.

To celebrate its 2nd birthday, Lost Years Rum launched its debut range of spiced rums. It’s new Wandering Turtle collection consists of an unusual silver spiced rum made with single origin rum from Antigua, which is then flavoured with coconuts, blood orange, mandarins, limes, vanilla and exotic spices. The second flavour combines golden rums from Jamaica, Venezuela, and Nicaragua with a unique blend of pineapples and tropical spices.

The brand itself is named after the once mysterious early years of a sea turtle’s life. No one knew where they disappeared to during this time in their lifecycle. Researchers, however, have been able to better piece together some of their movements from observation in recent years.

‘It’s wonderful that this brand – the idea for which was hatched on our last family holiday in Jamaica in 2019 – is already making such a difference,’ said Lee Smith, Lost Years founder. ‘The entire reason we started Lost Years Rum was

to help as many of these gorgeous little creatures begin their own journey into the lost years.’

The company uses only authentic Caribbean and Latin American rum. All money raised goes towards funding community-based conservation projects at key nesting sites across the Caribbean and Latin America too.

Antarctica, the elusive 7th continent, remained hidden from humanity until just 200 years ago and has since captivated the attention of explorers, adventurers, researchers, storytellers, and perhaps now, you.

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

A cruise to Antarctica is unlike the leisure cruises that sail anywhere else in the world. Usually, you can expect a set itinerary telling you where you will be and at what time you will arrive there, with a little room for change worked in there for good measure. In Antarctica, this simply isn’t possible.

The weather is unpredictable and with each season the landscapes can change; sometimes in slight ways, sometimes dramatically. The captain and expedition leader will do everything in their power to show you as many landing sites as possible, but don’t go down to Antarctica anticipating to see a very specific place.

Schedule changes are common, but for everything that changes you’ll be shown something else incredible just around the corner.

WILDLIFE!

You might look at the barren white glaciers and snow crusted mountains and think that Antarctica is void of life, but you’d be wrong. The continent hosts an abundance of fauna and even flora, if you know where to look! The Antarctic Sea is home to a slowly rising population of whales (after the catastrophic decrease at the hands of the whaling industry in the 20th century), an abundance of seals, a cacophony of penguins, thousands of other seabirds, and an estimated over 700 trillion Krill!

Everywhere you go there are the signs and sounds of life. Whether from the thousands of Gentoo and Adelie penguins in Petermann Island (and many other colonies around the peninsula!) or the huffing of Humpbacks surfacing to take their breaths in the otherwise silent Crystal Sound, I can personally attest that it’s all around you, wherever you are.

SOAK IN THE KNOWLEDGE

You don’t have to be an expert in the polar regions to enjoy a trip to Antarctica, as Millie reports:

“Travelling with Quark is synonymous with living inside a nature documentary. Landings and continent aside, the one part of the whole experience that impressed me most was just how cleverly the expedition team utilize your time so you can learn as much as possible.

Before coming to Antarctica, I could never distinguish between the different types of penguins and other sea birds, I couldn’t tell whales apart, nor the various seals living there.

During our time onboard crossing the Drake, we explored landscapes, glaciers, katabatic winds and icebergs. We discovered the history of polar exploration. We learned so much about the flora and fauna of Antarctica that by the time we’d reached the continent, we were all pointing to the Storm Petrels, Humpbacks, Leopard seals, Adelies, and so much more, calling them by name as if we were now the experts.

Our Points System

Each owner receives 84 points per year. There are NO blackout dates for owner use. Charters “cost” 2 points per day during the high season and 1 point per day during the low season. 42 points can be used to reserve sailing time in advance. 42 points can be used on short notice.

This allows 4 to 6 weeks owner sailing time each year plus additional short notice weeks. If the owner chooses to use their yacht during low season only they could have up to 12 weeks of sailing time in worldwide destinations!

A FRENCH RIVIERA CHARTER ITINERARY

Day 1: Saint Tropez

Where better to start your charter, than in St. Tropez, a storybook port, populariSed by Bridget Bardot in “And God Created Woman”, it has long been a summer home for artists, composers and novelists and the film colony. The town is filled with tiny squares, pastel coloUred houses, trendy boutiques, cabarets, galleries, and antique shops.

The hottest Riviera beaches are in St. Tropez, and your yacht can anchor right off of them. Actually, it’s one long 3-mile beach with various names along the way Tahiti, Bora Bora, Bali, etc. The beach is lined with thatched hut restaurants, burger shacks, tropical themed shops… You can either enjoy watersports from the yacht or go ashore for sunbathing and people watching.

Day 2: Cannes

Enjoy the morning cruise to the iconic city of the French Riviera and relish the view, as you pull into a marina that is hull-to-hull with the world’s largest yachts. Spend the afternoon ashore, complete with lunch and a bottle of rosé, and then visit the Picasso Museum to add a bit of culture to the day. In the evening, Cannes awaits.

Day 3: Cap D’Antibes

Antibes is a well-known resort town in the French Riviera located between Cannes and Nice. Antibes was a Greek fortified town named Antipolis in the 5th century BC, and later a Roman town, and always an active port for trading along the Mediterranean.

Anchor in any one of the beautiful bays around the Cap d’Antibes and swim in the clear waters surrounded by pine trees.

Later, enjoy an aperitif in the Hotel du CapEden Roc, the most stylish of the Côte’s luxury palaces which stands at the tip of the Cap d’Antibes peninsula in its own 22-acre manicured garden.

Day 4: Villefranche Sur-Mer

Villefranche-sur-Mer is an idyllic little village that looks to have popped straight out of a storybook. The Medieval architecture and narrow brick-laden roads that lead to steep cliffs dropping off into a crystalline sea will keep you wandering. The streets are lined with incredible local haunts. Be sure to visit Eze, a hilltop village with incredible views.

Day 5: St Jean Cap Ferrat

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is one of the pearls of the French Riviera. This stunning peninsula features a picturesque port, and has a delightful stone path that allows you to hike the entire peninsula by the sea.

Day 6: Monaco

The glitter and bling of the Principality of Monaco is dazzling. Your yacht charter will berth beneath the Royal Palace. Built into the rocks, Monaco offers world class shopping, the Oceanographic Museum once run by Jacques Cousteau, lovely gardens, superb restaurants and bars and, of course, the highlight – the Grand Casino of Monte Carlo.

A tour of the Royal Grimaldi Palace is a must, and you might also enjoy a visit to Monaco Cathedral, the 19th century church where Prince Ranier and Grace Kelly were married.

A late afternoon apéritif on board is a must before heading off to explore the city. Have dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant; later role the dice at the famous Monte Carlo Casino or revel in the night at one of Monaco’s uber-fabulous clubs.

Day 7: The Porquerolles Island

The island of Porquerolles lies in the Gulf of Hyères. Here you will find beautiful beaches, rolling hills, vineyards and a stunning forest — a large portion of the island is now a national park. No cars are allowed on the island, so exploration must be done by foot or by bike. Despite its remoteness, Porquerolles plays host to some excellent cuisine. Enjoy a meal at Le Mas du Langoustier. Depart for the short cruise back to St Tropez.

Day 01: Arrive Dubrovnik, Embark Yacht Fly from the UK and on arrival in Dubrovnik, be met at the airport and be transferred to your luxury cruising yacht MV Lady Eleganza. The yacht was designed and built in Croatia especially for cruising the Adriatic Coast. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner and stay overnight in this magnificent town.

Day 02: Dubrovnik, Korčula

This morning in Dubrovnik, set out for a guided tour of the medieval walled city. Then set sail and perhaps stop for a swim on the island of Jakljan. Later arrive in Korčula, Marco Polo’s birthplace, where you will stroll along medieval streets flanked with palaces. Your yacht will dock here overnight.

Day 03: Korčula, Vis, Hvar

Today, head from the coast to one of Croatia’s main islands, fascinating Vis. The island was used as a military base for the Yugoslav army and only opened up to tourism in 1989. This long isolation and lack of development lends the island an authentic aura free from tourist traps. Later, set sail to Hvar, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay. You also have the option to experience life like the locals and visit a lively cafe.

Day 04: Hvar, Šibenik

This morning, take a short coach ride across the island to the stunning Old Town of Hvar for a guided walk. Start in the iconic main square, the largest piazza in Dalmatia, then see the cathedral and the Franciscan Monastery. Continue to the Benedictine Nunnery, where you will learn about the aloe lace still produced by the nuns. Return to your yacht for lunch and set sail for Šibenik, where your yacht will dock overnight.

Day 05: Šibenik, Krka National Park

Today, head to beautiful Krka National Park. Here, explore dramatic waterfalls, the highlight of which is Skradinski Buk, a large natural pool with high waterfalls at one end and countless cascades at the other, with rushing river water forcing its way through a barrier of tiny islets. Take a walk along wooden jetties and bridges to admire the falls, and the unique flora and fauna.

Day 06: Šibenik, Radošić, Kornati Islands

Travel to the traditional village of Radošić. Sample local brandy and home-made doughnuts on arrival, then watch as the locals perform a dance that has been passed down through generations since the 18th century. Afterwards, enjoy a cooking demonstration showing how the villagers make their bread, before a tour of the village and a meal. After your Signature Experience, cruise among the 140 islands that make up the Kornati archipelago, teeming with natural beauty, coves and clear blue waters. Cruise around the islands then perhaps enjoy a swim from the yacht’s rear deck.

Day 07: Zadar, Pag, Rab

This morning, enjoy a guided walk through Zadar’s well-preserved Old Town, viewing Roman columns, Romanesque churches and Renaissance palaces. Continue to Pag, where you will have another chance to swim in the stunning Adriatic Sea straight off the spacious rear deck of your yacht. Continue to Rab, where your yacht will dock overnight, giving you a chance to enjoy the delights of the city after the busy daytime crowds have dispersed.

Day 08: Rab, Krk

In Rab, meander through the quaint alleys of the picturesque Old Town. Then, sail to the beautiful island of Krk. Weather permitting, your yacht will drop its anchor so you can enjoy a swim straight from the deck. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 09: Disembark Yacht, Opatija, Depart Zagreb

The feeling of sailing underneath the dancing northern lights accompanied only by the sound of wind and waves is hard to describe. Onboard the comfortable expedition vessel Valiente, sail between the majestic peaks of Lyngen and northern Troms.

Northern Norway, and especially the area around Tromsø, is the epicentre of the famous Aurora Borealis. From Tromsø to Lyngen, Skjervøy,

Ringvassøy, and Reinfjord visit historical fishing settlements, anchorages, and small harbours free from light pollution, and sail underneath the snowcovered alpine peaks that plunge into the sea.

Aim for the parts of these northern fjords that the herring call their winter home. As the whales come to our coast to feed, they will most easily be found where the herring are.

The winter months in the North are characterized by the polar night, where the sun rises above the horizon only briefly each day, if at all. This is not only a good thing for catching the Aurora, but it also makes all the light we actually get during the day super beautiful.

Sail aboard the sturdy and comfortable 70 feet expedition yacht Valiente. The boat has enough space and privacy to make you feel at home, and sufficient power to charge all cameras and gadgets. On board Valiente, find ideal spots to rest and tune into the pure and honest nature surrounding us.

THE VOYAGE

Day 1: Welcome on board!

Meet in the harbour of Tromsø at 15:00. Get to know fellow guests and the boat. The crew will talk you through the vessel, and safety routines onboard, and go through the program for the week. Aim to leave Tromsø that evening making way through Grøtsundet and having a beautiful view of the Lyngen Alps – bound for Skjervøy. Spend a bit of the night underway, hoping to start the trip with some northern lights!

Day 2: Set sail towards the whales and the roadless fishing village of Reinfjord

After an exciting night of Aurora-hunting and hopefully, some restful sleep, have an easy start and set sail after a good breakfast. Aim to approach the spawning grounds of the herring and possibly catch your first whale sighting! Later, sail to the roadless village of Reinfjord, where they have a long history of fishing, and where you also spend the night. Go fishing, and maybe catch your dinner for this evening.

Day 3: Whales, the Lyngen Alps, and sauna night

Not possible to sail through the Alps you say? This is the day when you’ll be proven wrong, with a sail through the Lyngen Alps. This part of Norway offers spectacular fjords, sounds, and mountains where your eyes will never be satisfied and want to see more – more – more of this. After a good day of alpine sailing, hopefully, with more whale sightings, dock at the pier of the famous Hamnes Handlested on Uløya. Here they have heated up the sauna and jacuzzi all set for a swim in the sea underneath the stars!

Day 4: The magical winter season light

The best part of this season here in the North is the shifting and always beautiful light. Even though there isn’t much sun in winter, the light you actually get is often like an everlasting dawn and dusk! Perfect for great pictures and landscape views. Spend the last full day together exploring the archipelago north of Tromsø, and aim to have a landfall, hike, and enjoy a bonfire on the beach. Anchor away from the city lights, around Ringvassøya or Kvaløysundet, for our last night –hopefully with an Aurora show in the sky!

Day 5: Return to Tromsø, and goodbye for now

Pack your bags and get ready to disembark. After breakfast, sail for a couple of hours back to Tromsø after breakfast and arrive back in Tromsø just after lunch. The trip will end at 15.00 at the latest. Leave Valiente with your heart full of unforgettable memories and some new friends.

Endangered wildlife like Caretta turtles and Monk seals can be spotted on Zakynthos, the island historically named the Fiore de Levante (“Flower of the East Island”). Then to Kefalonia, where magnificent monasteries are perched precariously on rugged cliffs and timeless villages lead on to gilded sands. There is a chance here to marvel at the wild horses that roam the slopes of Ainos. It’s a mesmerising experience impossible to duplicate.

TURKEY & THE GREEK ISLANDS VOYAGE

Day 1: Marmaris

Boarding scheduled at 15:30 at the port of Marmaris. On the first day, your gulet will remain anchored at the harbor for dinner and overnight. Once installed in your cabin, take the opportunity to discover the (City)Town. Known to be one of the most touristic places in Turkey, Marmaris is a fishing town that has kept its old charm. Shopaholics will satisfy their desires thanks to the many shops: clothes, jewels, gifts ...

Day 2: Marmaris - Bozburun

During your breakfast, the crew will inform you about the itinerary of your cruise. Your captain then sets sail for Bozukkale. Explore the ruins of the castle and its nine temples along the bay. From cove to cove, you will head for Bozburun, a small fishing village. In the past, this area was popular for sponge fishing. Being unprofitable and dangerous, this activity has now been replaced by tourism. Dinner onboard spending overnight in a cove.

Day 3: Bozburun -Symi

After the port formalities, your captain navigates to Symi Island. Located on the harbor, the monastery of Panormitis is your point of arrival. Built in the early 17th century, this inhabited monastery is the protector of all Greek sailors. In a corner of the courtyard is a surprising museum listing all the gifts offered by pilgrims over the centuries. After a swim on the eastern shores of the island, sail to the port arriving early in the evening. Fall under the spell of the island of Symi for its forests of pines, oaks and small coves. Dinner onboard and overnight in the marina.

Day 4: Symi - Nysiros

Departure in the morning to reach Knidos and its beautiful bay. In the afternoon, visit the monuments, temples and majestic theater. Walk in the footsteps of Spartans, Persians, Hellenists, Romans and Byzantines. Visit the temple of Knidos where is the statue of the goddess Aphrodite made by the sculptor Praxiteles. First representation in the world of the nudity of a woman. Visit of the city then sail to Gyali an uninhabited island. Dinner onboard spending the night in the cove.

Day 5: Nysiros - Tilos

Early morning, your captain will set sail to Tilos Island for a day of swimming in the warm, colorful waters of a cove. Relax and let yourself enjoy the magnificant scenery. At night, enjoy the spectacular illumination of the ruins.

Day 6: Rhodes

This morning, you set sail towards the largest island of the Dodecanese: Rhodes. With permanent hot weather (300 days a year), the island is spectacular. Enjoy a walk along the 12-meter-thick walls to immerse yourself in its medieval past. After dinner, enjoy your evening in Rhodes by strolling through its streets: casino, dancing bars... The city will be waiting for you!

Day 7: Marmaris

For this last day, your captain sets sail in the direction of Marmaris. Stopping at Cennet Island (Paradise Island) for lunch. After lunch continue sailing to the port of Marmaris. Dinner onboard and overnight in the port.
