YaJu Lee is an architectural designer and incoming SMArchS Urbanism student at MIT. Her work sits at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, and research, with a focus on how dense urban environments can be reimagined through socially responsive and spatially adaptive design. She works at JJP Architects & Planners, where she has contributed to healthcare projects across multiple design phases—from concept and schematic design to design development and construction documentation—under the guidance of Joshua Jih Pan, FAIA. Her role includes design coordination, technical drawings, and developing architectural responses to institutional program needs. Her academic background emphasizes research-driven design. Her undergraduate thesis, which investigated public space, density, and ritual in Taiwanese cities, received multiple national and international awards, and was featured in leading architectural publications in Taiwan, such as TA Magazine and Taiwan Architect Magazine. Through both design and fieldwork, she explores how architecture mediates between form, activity, and collective life. At MIT, she looks forward to deepening her interdisciplinary research and expanding her approach through cross-scalar, cross-disciplinary collaboration. Her experiences working and volunteering internationally continue to shape her sensitivity to diverse urban conditions and design cultures.
