profile X S D+B | X S Design and Build Enterprise was founded in 2014 by 2 partners, Xe Wei, Yeap and Steven Chin Wei Yuet. The Studio is currently managed by 2 individuals who believe design comes in different forms and sizes. X S D+B always put constant thoughts into the usage and sense of space for the users. The studio creates beautiful spaces in detail where no corner is left behind. The studio has been involved in projects mainly in Kuala Lumpur, with few other projects in parts of Malaysia. X S D+B mainly focuses on residential projects, with a particular niche in modern and minimal design. X S D+B managed numerues projects ranging from architecture, interior design to construction projects, providing consultation and solutions to clients in residential design, retail design, submission documentation, 3D visualisation and cost effectiveness in design. The studio’s work is notable for its constant evolution: no two projects adopt the same constitution, as each projects constitutes a specific response to the potential of the program and the site. The design concocting a unique fusion of practicality and creativity.

Xe Wei has worked as an architectural assistant in an award winning firm for over 2 years before accomplished a partnership with Steven. In 2009, she won her first industrial competition to build a food waste recycling centre in her final year of foundation diploma in architecture at Taylor’s University College Malaysia. After her achievement in foundation diploma, she graduated from University of Strathclyde with honourary degree. In 2013, She graduated from Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art with postgraduate diploma. In 2013 and 2014, she worked with Unit One Design Sdn Bhd and was leading several projects situated in Kelantan, Pulau Pinang and Kuala Lumpur, the projects range from hospitality, commercial and residential projects. In late 2014, She joined Steven in their partnership venture.

Steven has worked as an independent design and build freelancer for over 2 years before accomplished a partnership with Xe Wei. In 2011, he graduated from University of Strathclyde with Bachelor Degree in Architecture. After graduating with bachelor degree, he took a year off to design and build a home for his family. After the project completion, he joined Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art and graduated with postgraduate diploma in 2013. He decided to work as a design and build freelancer after graduation. In 2014, he established X S D+B, and in late 2014, established a partnership with Xe Wei.

laguna residensi management body SS19, Subang Jaya 2015 RM100,000 1 month The client approached us to refurbish the outdated guardhouse to improve the entrance of the property. The design is kept to make minimal construction changes as it is a working entrance for the residence. In order to improve the facade of the building, we made a design decision to add a hint of grey, timber textured ceiling to add a certain depth to the building facade. With the insertion of lighting and some greeneries, the property is now livelier than before. The services pipings that were exposed, has been hidden by using timber textured aluminium ceiling. vv

The architecture is placed in a site where it is sur rounded by single family houses. The design is made to create enough openess to the house, and bring natural lighting and ventilation to the property. Louvres are inserted on the exterior of the building to hide the exposed A/C compressor. The interior of the house is kept in a warm tone, yet to accommodate the client’s brief to have a modern home in a small town.

Spaces in the property are designed in consideration where the property is small, hence we keep every element in the property as minimal as possible. In order to achieve the spaciousness of the space, we repaint the property in white, as well as keeping the hanging light in wire casing to have a certain openess and depth to the visual of the property.

The client brief was to refurbished the ground floor facilities of the warehouse to accommodate their growing company. The brief was to have the lobby in warmth shade, to have a similar feeling to Google open plan office and to insert certain greeneries into the foyer.

They re quested for a simple addition hanging kitchen cabinetry to their existing cabinet. the colour of the cabinet is chose to contradict the existing cabinetry to create a certain flavour to the kitchen. The wardrobes in the room is to be kept in a lighter shade of tim ber with black glossy strips to match their original black coloured bedframe.

This project is designed to cater for malaysian chinese food, with interior that has element of oriental flavour and olden days pendant lights. The cafe is to be kept natural ventilated, therefore, cross ventilation system is put into consideration during design process. There will be a vertical farm at the garden area, sprinkler systems on the roof top and a small pond at the side to reduce the temperature in the space.

The family requested to have as many storage as possible in their 800sqft home. They wishes to have a certain warmth to the space rather than hav ing it minimal. We kept the cabinet in oak finishes (middle shade of wood) and grey hint to achieve certain depth to the townhouse. The property is kept in white paint to not over clutter the small property.
