But that’s exactly what you will find in the Twiga expedition vehicle The Twiga expedition vehicle is not a competitor but is a ‘hospitality’ vehicle which provides a place to sleep, rest and prepare meals, in this case, specifically for the competitors of the DDW team truck #537. The Twiga Travelcars vehicle is providing a welcome respite to team DDW’s crew after the long days of racing at the Dakar.
Willie Thijssen is one of the founders of Twiga Travelcars and a member of the DDW rally team, taking care of electrical technology and it has long been a wish of his to race in the Dakar. Through the years the truck, has been rebuilt several times, each time with new technologies. The ultimate goal for the DDW team was to finish in the Dakar rally of 2022. This year they finished in 17th place in the final ranking. The Twiga expedition truck has performed well and from all accounts, the crew of the DDW rally truck are very keen to have the hospitality truck back in future Dakar’s.

Besides the luxurious furnishings, the vehicle is also fully self-supporting, with 350 litres of fresh water storage and 1400 watt solar panels on the roof. This truck is not dependent on permanent power and water supplies. There is also sufficient storage capacity for personal necessities and of course, a fridge/freezer to take care of … nourishment!
