Bad news though for the Audi team with Stéphane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz no longer in contention. Major disappointment for the Audio e-tron drivers. Peterhansel’s Dakar came to a catastrophic end with a smashed rear end while Sainz lost over two hours with navigational problems and he plummeted to 32nd place overall. In the lightweight prototype category, Seth Quintero continued his strong 2020 form with ‘Chaleco’ Lopez hot on his heels.
Polish SSV driver Aron Domzała took the lead from Marek Goczał for a 15th stage win of his career, making him joint-second most prolific Polish Dakar stage winner. The trucks once again were dominated by Kamaz with Dmitry Sotnikov and Eduard Nikolaev swapping positions. However it wasn’t blue all the way, with Aleš Loprais in his Praga taking third position.
