waDukuza Mayor Councillor NR Mthembu has delivered two infrastructure development promises.

Mthembu, who is the local Operation Sukuma Sakhe champion, recently handed o v e r t w o projects that were earmarked for development i n t h e municipality's five year plan, the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).

These are s o m e o f promises that M t h e m b u FOR THE PEOPLE: KDM Mayor Councillor NR Mthembu guaranteed to complete for ward 5 and 18 during his stopover in May of this year.

The municipality will be spending R4.5 million from its R1.2 billion annual budget towards these developments. Both projects were awarded to local contractors and the projects are under phase one.

At ward 18, Shakaville, a largely non-operational netball court will be turned into a combo court that will cost the municipality R3 million. In its wish list; ward 5, had prioritized the upgrade of the Lindelani sports facility into a fully fledged stadium.

During the roadshow visit Mthembu vowed to deliver on the project as a matter of necessity with the upgrade costing R1.5 million. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mthembu said he is happy that the projects were awarded to local contractors, saying he will continue to deliver infrastructural projects to communities.

Motor vehicle accidents in Mahatma Gandhi Street

Town’s agricultural sector stimulated

Five killed in R102 crash

Last week saw two motor vehicle related accidents with one happening on Wednesday, 31 July and the other on Friday, 2 August 2013 respectively in Mahatma Gandhi Street.

The first accident involved a local male ending up with his vehicle damaged a g a i n s t a Te l k o m telephone box with one side suspended by a mangled ladder, at the intersection of Chief Albert Luthuli Street and Mahatma Gandhi Street, in front of The Towers building.

According to eyewitness accounts at the scene of the accident, which happened during midday, a man doing maintenance was lucky to be alive as he moved away in time as the car ended up suspended over an open manhole cover.

and stopped giving her right of way. However the driver of the JEEP said the truck driver was also involved. The stationery vehicle had minimal damage. No injuries were reported as paramedics asked all the drivers involved if they needed assistance.

Traffic from the Stop Street alongside Dentist Tashni Reddy's surgery up until the Stop Street next to Olympic Car Sales was log jammed for approximately half-anhour until traffic police arrived.

Five people including a 10-year-old were killed in a collision on the R102 at the Shaka's Rock intersection on Tuesday, 30 July 2013.

According to Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), Officer Lawrence Chetty, a van approaching the R102 crashed into a trucktractor with two trailors.

“A Nissan van was coming from Shaka's Rock, approaching the R102 when it collided with the truck-tractor,” said Chetty.

Three men, a women and a 10-year-old tragically died on scene. Officer Chetty added that five others sustained serious injuries, two of which were life threatening.

“Umhlali SAPS, Ballito Traffic and Fire Department, Netcare 911 and Revival Medical attended to the scene,” he added.

During the president's historic visit to KwaDukuza, addressing hundreds of locals, at the Stanger Siva Sungum Hall on Friday, 26 July 2013 the media came under fire for in the presidents words: “They love negativity all the time.”

He added that from the African National Congress' point of view, they have decided that from the present moment onwards before the elections, they are going to give a report of what the ANC have done since 1994.

Police attacker shot dead

Newark SAPS shot and killed a wanted suspect at Bulwer Farm on Wednesday, 31 July 2013.

According to Liaison Officer Malusi Ngubane, Thembinkosi Zungu; who had previously been arrested, attacked police at the scene before he was shot.

“Zungu was threatening to kill his mother using a sharp object when police arrived, and instead of surrendering, he managed to cut the police with a slasher,” said Ngubane.

He added that police then fired a warning shot, but the suspect continued to attack them.

“This ended up with the police shooting the suspect dead,” he said.

Harsh times are ahead as hard pressed motorists face another increase in fuel prices from today.

The retail price of fuel will increase by 32 cents a litre. The Department of Energy says petrol will now cost R13.55 a litre while diesel will rise to R12.48.

An improvement in the dollar-value of the rand late last month came too late to have a significant adjustment on the fuel price. Townsend Hall upgrade resolution reached

T h e K w a D u k u z a M a y o r, Councillor NR Mthembu has welcomed the outcomes of the task team's inquiry into the upgrade of Townsend Park hall in Ballito, following a stand-off between the Ballito Lions Club and the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM).

According to KDM Communications director, Sifiso Zulu the task team deployed by the KwaDukuza Council early in May has finally made a breakthrough.

“The Lions Club, an organisation that occupies the facility for fundraising purposes

has indicated that it does not have any objections against the expansion of the hall.”

The Lions club had previously rejected Governments undertaking, saying that it had entered a legal agreement with the municipality in a form of a lease.

Attempts by the municipality to go ahead with the upgrade were turned down.

'There has been a “need” for a community hall in Ballito; this sentiment that is widely shared by the Ballito ward committee, the municipality and some members of the public.

Mthembu has welcomed the amicable solution that has been

established by the task team. He says he is happy with the resolution and confident that co-operation between KwaDukuza, the Lions and the task team will be sustained.

“I would like to commend the task team that has been engaging various parties in this process.' 'I am confident that co-operation between the Lions and the municipality will be long lasting.

What we have established now cannot be easily changed as we have worked out one of the best solutions from our differences. I would also like to indicate that KwaDukuza has never bullied the Lions like it has been described in the past,” said the Mayor.

Child Welfare to host annual Street Collection

The welfare requests secondary school learners to participate and

assist with the street collection that will be held in the KwaDukuza Central Business District from 8.30 am to 12.00 noon. Learners will be given an opportunity to fulfil their social responsibilities in the community and certificates will be awarded to each learner for their assistance with the street collection.

Schools compete in Maths competition

Some of course want to be more equal than others. Last week, police acting on information arrived at a home in Glenhills with Telkom investigators.

They were following leads on a theft case where Telkom cables were stolen in the Townview area. On being allowed onto the premises, the team found over 100 metres of cables which Telkom identified as theirs.

Phumelele Nzuza (45) alleges she purchased the cables for illegal connections for R250.00 from a 16year-old. The cables are valued at R12 500. Nzuza is expected in court on 25 September.

Police at Glendale acting on a report have arrested a 19-year-old youth with an unlicensed firearm. The officers allege that they approached Mpilo Ndlovu at his home. On searching him they found a revolver with 5 rounds of ammunition tucked in his waist. On checking the weapon on the computer they were surprised to discover that the weapon was stolen at Mandini during 1995. Ndlovu has been remanded in custody pending an investigation by detectives whether he may be granted bail or not. He is due before court this week to learn his fate in respect of bail.

The world of electronic gadgetry if understood, can lead to the recovery of stolen goods as one hapless woman found out. Police allege that they were approached by a victim whose cellphone and car keys were stolen from him. He had picked up the signal of his phone in the Etete area. Police located the house and on questioning the female occupant she denied all knowledge of any cellphone.

However, when the officers found the phone and key which the owner identified as his property she began to sing. Maureen Duma (30) is due back in court this week to apply for bail after being charged for being in possession of stolen property.

A desperate youth needing some groceries at U-Save is now an owner of a criminal record after his tactics failed. Musa Mhlaleni alleges he spotted the youth enter the store and place several items into his basket. He began walking around the store attracting the attention of the guard. It is alleged he found a safe place where he slipped a block of cheese into his underwear. He abandoned his basket and made for the door where he was arrested and the item removed.

Lindani Zulu (25) pleaded guilty and left court with a cheesy grin after he was fined R500 or 50 days imprisonment which was conditionally suspended.

A security official who returned home and found his house broken into decided to conduct his own investigation. Siphiwe Myeza of Ntshawini alleges that his door and burglar guard gate was damaged and his DVD Player, liquor and rice was missing. Fortunately, his 64-year-old neighbour spotted the culprit in the yard struggling to convey a bin bag.

He relayed this information to Myeza who arrested Sbu Buthelezi (24) the following day. Buthelezi is expected to apply for bail this week.

Money or the box When Melville tuck-shop owner, Cecilia Shandu discovered her cellphone and money deposit box missing, she contacted her husband.

The husband arrived and they questioned the youth playing pool.

Information was given to the couple who went in search of the culprit.

They traced his home and his girlfriend gave a detailed account as to how her boyfriend and a friend opened the safety box, removed a large amount of cash and dropped the empty box into the latrine pit. Police were alerted and Sandile Abraham Nhgutoo (23) was arrested. The problem is no-one is willing to retrieve the safe to determine if it is in working condition or not. Nhgutoo is due back in court this week to see if he qualifies for bail or not.

A local business was robbed by seven armed men on Saturday 25 July at 8:11 am. According to the owner the robbery only lasted three minutes as one armed robber asked for the cash while the other one ushered the employees to the back of the shop while the last guy stood guard at the entrance of the shop.

The owner said: “They just walked in with one standing at the door while one of the robbers ushered employees to the back the other robber then asked for all our money.”

On leaving one of the robbers then assaulted an employee before making a hasty exit. The owner said the whole robbery was recorded on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and it was later discovered that during the robbery there were four armed men waiting outside the store as well.

The owner also said that that

none of the robbers were masked to hide their identity or wore gloves. Police arrived on the scene 10 minutes after the robbery.

According to KwaDukuza SAPS liaison officer Sibusiso Khumalo the case is still under investigation but he can confirm that there were seven men involved in the robbery. When asked if there was a link between this robbery and a string of other robberies that took place by a gang that has been terrorizing KwaDukuza businesses. Officer Khumalo said: “If there is a link between them they will be arrested and charged for all the other robberies but as of now the case is still under investigation.”

upholsterer in the Stanger Industrial Area, a Service Station, a café and now a clothing store in the CBD.” We also noted the momentum of gang related robberies from the month of May 2013 into June 2013 and ended “with the latest victim being a franchise clothing retailer in the heart of the KwaDukuza CBD.” In the same article KwaDukuza SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Bongiwe Sithole said: “The station has done the following in an endeavour to make KwaDukuza town and its surroundings crime free.”

In the Xpress Times article: “Crime wave hits KwaDukuza” (31 May 2013), Cluster Commander Brigadier Derek Captain-Hastibeer said that they have established a possible link to a KwaMashu syndicate that is operating in the area but said it was premature to comment on the investigation.

Madundube men take aim at violent crimes

Concerns have grown as activists are concerned with the spate of crime related activities at Madundube following many brutal attacks against residents.

A new offensive unit has been launched by male residents, which was named the Madundube Men's Club (MMC), on Saturday. The MMC is made up of seasoned politicians, business people and professionals who have taken aim at those who commit malicious crimes with impunity.

The club has noted the slaying of a 73-year-old woman who was found badly mutilated, and the killing of a 19-year-old man who was stabbed and also mutilated to death a week ago. The MMC has condemned the two incidents,

describing the behaviour as inhumane.

The interim spokesperson Eugene Mhlanga expressed grave concerns about these incidents.

“We are concerned about the barbaric behaviour that has rocked our community. As we celebrate Women's Month, we are conscious of the fact that we as men should unite and take action against such cold-hearted behaviour. We have built a structure that will work to expose criminals and rally for harsh sentences to those who are found on the wrong side of the law.”

Mhlanga who was speaking, at the Blythedale Beach Caravan Park, during the official launch of the club said that the campaign aims to fire up men to come out and unite against social,

economic and political challenges as they bid to send strong messages about how to build a united front against social issues amongst the community of Madundube.

The movement claims that it has the capacity to model positive roles and inspire positive change.

They say they are amongst 20 of the most influential public figures in that area .The club will in September to officially elect new members and name its leadership. It will also meet to mapping out their programme of action, a massive campaign that will seek to build moral regeneration. They have called the male community members to come on board, membership is free and it is open to all Madundube residents.

A group of young men from different walks of life have come together to form an entertainment-cumhumanitarian organisation called YVY Productions.

The name comes from the first letter of each of the three individuals who make up the core of the group which includes Yathin Narothum, Vernon Pillay and hip hop artist Chrome (Yasheen Ramdew). The fourth member is top local hip hop artist Renegade (Rasheed) Narothum says that the group's main aim is to bring unique entertainment to KwaDukuza in the form of plays, sketches, events

involving singing and dancing, concerts and much more.

“The four of us aim to expose and nurture talent from KwaDukuza and its surrounds and showcase them to the locals,” he said.

He added that community upliftment is going to be the pivotal to the group in that charity and giving off themselves was going to be “a way of life.”

Pillay spoke about the multimedia and videographer aspect of YVY Productions saying that the group is “passionate about pushing the envelope.”

Ramdew spoke about the social networking aspect and getting teenagers involved in

writing, acting and rapping.

Rasheed was vocal about sending a clear message to people to 'let go' of harmful whoonga and alcohol abuse among themselves - young women and men.

Woman Gives Birth in Crashed Car After Vehicle Flips (Huffington Post) Samaher Mezban and her husband were on their way to a hospital in the eastern city of Gävle, Sweden on Sunday.

Five Indian soldiers killed in Kashmir attack (Al Jazeera) At least five Indian soldiers have been killed in an attack along the disputed border of Indian-administered Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir state chief minister has said.

The Indian government said on Tuesday that the attack was carried out by Pakistani troops, but the Pakistani military denied that any firing had occurred.

A Pakistani army official told the Reuters news agency that “there was no indiscriminate firing” by Pakistani forces along the the Line of Control.

Snake 'strangles two children' (BBC News) - A snake escaped from a pet shop and killed two children in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, police say.

In a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said they believed the reptile had strangled two boys, aged five and seven, in Campbellton. The boys were staying overnight at a friend's apartment above the pet shop.

Police said they believe the snake slipped out of its cage overnight and travelled through the ventilation. The serpent has been captured by police.

2. The date of expropriation shall be 2nd August 2013 from which date, ownership of the said land will pass to the Municipality and/or the said rights will vest in the Municipality 3. The Municipality shall take possession of the said land shall be 2nd August 2013 or such other date as may be agreed upon between the Owner(s) and the Municipality in terms of Section 8(3) of the Expropriation Act, or a date determined in terms of the provisions of Section 8(5) of the Expropriation Act, as the case may be.

4. Where land is expropriated, with effect from the date of possession of the land by the Municipality, but not before such date, the Owner(s) will be relieved of the obligation to take care of and maintain the land and to pay taxes and other charges thereon, and will no longer be entitled to the use of any income from the land.

5. Your attention is directed to the provisions of Section 9(1), 12(3)(a)(ii), 12(4) and 13(3) of the Expropriation Act, which reads as follows: "9. Duties of owner of property expropriated or which is to be used by (the Municipality). (1) An owner whose property has been expropriated in terms of this Act, shall, within sixty days from the date of notice…., deliver or cause to be delivered to the (Municipality) a written statement indicating(a) if any compensation was in the notice of expropriation offered for such property, whether or not he accepts the compensation and, if he does not accept it, the amount claimed by him as compensation and how much of that amount represents each of the respective amounts contemplated in section 12(1)(a)(i) and (ii) or (b) and full particulars as to how such amounts are made up; (b) if no such compensation was so offered, the amount claimed as compensation by him and how much of the amount represents each of the respective amounts contemplated in section 12(1)(a)(i) and (ii) or (b) and full particulars as to how such amounts are made up; (c) if the property expropriated is land and any amount is claimed in terms of paragraph (a) or (b), full particulars of all improvements thereon which, in the opinion of the owner, affect the values of such land; (d) if the property being expropriated is land(i) which prior to the date of notice was leased as a whole or in part by unregistered lease, the name and writing or full particulars of the lease, the name and address of the lessee, and accompanied by the lease or a certified copy hereof, if it is not in writing: (ii) which, prior to the date of notice, was sold by the owner, the name and address of the buyer, and accompanied by the contract of purchase ad sale or a certified copy thereof. (ii) on which building has been erected which is subject to a builder's lien by virtue of a written building contract, the name and address of the builder, and accompanied by the building contract or a certified copy thereof. (e) the address to or at which the owner desires that further documents in connection with the expropriation may be posted or delivered or tendered. Provided that the (Municipality) may at (its)discretion extend the said period of sixty days, and that, if the owner requests the (Municipality) in writing within thirty days as from the date of notice to extend the said period of sixty days, the (Municipality) shall extend such period by a further sixty days.”

“12. Basis on which compensation is to be determined(1) …………….

(2) …………….

(3) (a) Interest at the standard interest rate determined in terms of Section 28(1) of the Exchequer and Audit Act, 1975 (Act No. 56 of 1975), shall, subject to the provisions of subsection (4), be payable from the date on which the Municipality takes possession of the property in question in terms of Section 8(3) or (5) on any outstanding portion of the amount of compensation payable in accordance with subsection (1): Provided that (i) …………. (ii) If the owner fails to comply with the provisions of Section 9(1) within the appropriate period referred to in the said section, the amount so payable shall during the period of such failure and for the purpose of the payment of interest be deemed not to be an outstanding amount.

(4) If the owner of property which has been expropriated occupies or utilized or any portion thereof, no interest shall, in respect of the period during which he so occupies or utilizes it, be paid in terms if subsection (3) on so much of the outstanding amount as, in the opinion of the (Municipality), relates to the property so occupied or utilized.”

“13. Payment of compensation in respect of rights of unregistered leases in respect of property expropriated(3) If the owner of expropriated property fails to comply with a the provisions of Section 9(1) (d)(1) and the (Municipality) did not prior to the payment of any compensation money to the owner become aware of the existence of the lease in respect of such property the (Municipality) shall not be obliged to pay compensation to the lessee concerned in respect of the termination of his rights, but such owner shall be liable to any such lessee for damages sustained by him in consequence of the termination of his rights.”

6. Your attention is directed to the provisions of Section 20 of the Expropriation Act, which reads as follows: “20. Payment of certain taxes and other moneys out of compensation monies (1) If any land which has been expropriated is situated within the area of jurisdiction of a local authority, such local authority shall upon receipt or publication of a relevant notice in terms of section 7, forthwith inform the (Municipality) in writing) of any outstanding tax or other moneys in respect of the payment of which the production of a receipt or certificate is in terms of any law prerequisite for the passing of a transfer of such land by a Registrar of Deeds.

(2) The (Municipality) may utilise so much of the compensation money in question as is necessary for the payment on behalf of the owner of such land of any tax or other moneys mentioned in subsection (1) .”

7. If the title deed to the land is not in the possession or under the control of the Owner(s), you are further requested in terms of Section 9(3)(a) of the Expropriation Act to provide within sixty days of the date of this notice written particulars of the name and address of the person in whose possession or under whose control is.

Mazibuye African Forum seems to be a racist organization while our country has moved on with democracy and its challenges. To even suggest stripping Indians of BEE beneficiary status smacks of jealousy the great strides Indians have made in our economy and country as a whole. We have lived in harmony with our black brothers and sisters. We should help in building our nation based on its diversity it enjoys bringing in different skills and experience.

Already the Indian community is discriminated through affirmative action and equity plan and in many instances they are in over supply in their job places. It is already hurting and enough is enough. I do not want to dwell on the history of the Indian community, but I want to emphasize education was close to their heart and the fruits are reaped generations after generation. It was possible all

through hard work and perseverance.

We know the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) have benefitted some through lucrative government contracts and did little to encourage and support emerging black businesses. Broad-based BEE must be supported including Indians. If correctly implemented, it will pull people into the economy, reduce unemployment and stimulate growth which is so desperately needed in our country.

The utterances by the African forum to put fear in the Indian community have instead galvanized the minority community of about 1.2 million people. This week's column is rather candid and sensitive, and although one hopes that such parochial, bigoted matters would remain in history's back burner, occasionally you would find some insensitive, dimwitted group, who don't have much to do, open up a can of worms. I know it traverses the boundaries of journalistic ethics, but as a 100% South African, I feel compelled to respond to what I read in a local publication. Sangweni/Mfeka and other blatant racists of their ilk were perhaps little boys running around barefooted in the open fields, grazing cattle, while many hundreds of Indian activists (along with their Black brothers…at that time!) were either in exile, incarcerated, under house arrest, killed, or victims of the dreaded Group Areas Act. As long as their provocative, inflammatory statements are allowed to go unchallenged, they will remain ignorant about the past; racism will continue to rear its repulsive head, and our country's problems will never be solved. To articulate such irresponsible hate speech in this day and age, when we brag about owning the beloved, global, non- racial icon, is very primitive to say the least. Truth be told, every human has this innate 'racist gene' and it will never be eliminated! So much for uBuntu and Masakane!! In the past, whites thought they were the chosen nation, now it's the majority of blacks who suddenly seem to have this new-found air of superiority, unnecessary arrogance and condescension. Just look around you and see how Indians and whites are locked out of meetings and sidelined for key posts! (Job Reservation still exists!). Each time I read Orwell's Animal Farm I am almost certain that our constitution is based on that novel!

The parallels are uncanny, to say the least! We are not blind and stupid, you know!

It cannot be refuted…nay it MUST NOT be forgotten that many Indians suffered immensely under apartheid,

because they identified with, and fought a common enemy. There is no denying that many people of colour exploited the system, and amassed large fortunes, but there were many who had the common sense to build upon what was laid down, and didn't go on a destruction rampage.

Many Indians fought the regime from the outside, away from the comfort of family and friends and were committed members of the ruling party. All people of colour had to endure the same ruthless dictates of the apartheid regime and were subjected to the same punitive procedures. They have now been conveniently relegated into history's dust bin, as they 'are not Black or African enough!' What an appalling mockery of justice to use the intelligence of committed Indian comrades, toss them aside and kick them in their backsides now that the political complexion of the country has changed.

The struggle against the old regime was for an equitable distribution of the country's wealth, but a new Black upper class seems to be the only beneficiaries.

Simply look at the massive removal of intelligent Indian and white faces in the present government and compare it to Mandela's first democratic one! I wonder if these imperceptive, misguided men thought deeply about the ramifications of their statements that; 'Indians should not benefit from BEE and Affirmative Action and that their land should be distributed to Blacks.' Land re-distributed? God forbid! For what purpose? The masses may just latch on to what has been said, go berserk and cause a riot. I think to remedy the situation, all those who made such preposterous submissions should apologise unconditionally. I might just add that without the Indian's intellect and ability to rationalize, we might not have been enjoying the freedom we do, or the indignity we now undergo!!

Lower Tugela School Under 15 and 18 tournament results

The Lower Tugela Schools held their under 15 and 18 girls only and mixed teams Chess tournament on 27 July 2013. The tournament was held at the KwaDukuza Town Hall Supper Room. More than 60 learners from Stanger Manor Secondary, Glenhills Secondary, Guzana Secondary, Stanger High School, ML Sultan Secondary, New Guelderland and Melville Primary School turned up for the chance to represent the Lower Tugela Schools in the District tournament to be held on 24 August 2013.

The games were very competitive and the standard of the competition was very high. Teams from the following schools were selected to represent the district in the tournament, Glenhills Under 15 Girls only team, Melville Primary Under 15 mixed team, New Guelderland High school under 18 girls only and Stanger Manor Under 18 mixed team.

The chairperson for iLembe Schools Chess Committee, Mr W.M Gwamanda would like to thank KDM's Mr Tillo for providing the supper room free of charge and the parents, teachers and students of the above mentioned schools for their time and commitment.

By Xpress Reporter Orlando Pirates thumped African giants Al Ahly 3-0 in their CAF African Champions League match in Cairo on Sunday. Goals from Thandani Ntshumayelo, Andile Jali and Sifiso Myeni helped make safe the booming result in their group A clash.

The opener came for Pirates in the 11th minute after good interplay between Ntshumayelo and Collins Mbesuma. Ntshumayelo made his way into the box and produced a classy finish to make it 1-0 against their Egyptian opponents. Pirates took control after the goal and could have extended their lead before the break.

The “father and son” legacy of Narothum's Hair Salon, better known as Lighty Barbers, is almost a century old, and began in 1915 when Ishwar “Lighty” Narothum's grandfather, Chunilall opened up his Barber Shop in King Shaka Street, KwaDukuza.

According to Narothum, his dad took over the business and continued to build the iconic and exclusive Stanger barber shop over its storied legacy.

“My father took over Narothum's Hair Salon in Jamnada's Arcade where we stayed for 48 years,” said Narothum.

He added that he joined his dad in 1965. When his dad passed away in 1975, Lighty

1 x 2 litre neopolitan Ice cream - softened 1 x ready baked vanilla Swiss roll - sliced 1 cup chopped nuts (of choice) 1 cup mini marshmallows 1 cup grated milk chocolate

Spicy almond prawns 4 tbsp garlic butter 1kg prawns - deveined ½ cup mayonnaise 1 tbsp garlic paste 1 tsp salt 1 tsp lemon pepper ½ tsp aromat 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp ground green chillies 1 tbsp almond powder 1/4 tsp chilli powder ½ tsp mixed herbs Chopped coriander and lemon wedges for garnish.

1. Wash and pat dry prawns 2. Marinade with spices and refrigerate for a few hours 3. Cook prawns in garlic butter

Chocolate sauce Whipped cream Mint leaves

1. Line a round cake pan with cling film 2. Place half of the softened ice cream at the bottom of the pan and layer the swiss roll slices over.

3. Fold the rest of the ingredients gently into the rest of the ice cream and spread over layered swiss roll Slices over.

4. Cover with cling film and allow to freeze.

5. Turn over frozen ice cream trifle. Garnish with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and mint leaves

Mini strawberry tarts 1 x (400g) ready rolled puff pastry 1 punnet strawberries 1 x (250ml) fresh ice cream 4 - 5 tbsp icing sugar Grated chocolate Mint leave 1. Lightly roll out puff pastry.

Cut out circles and place into greased bun/patty pans. Prick pastry with a fork.

2. Bake in a preheated oven at 180’C until golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

3. Whip together fresh cream and icing sugar until stiff.

4. Spoon or nozzel whipped cream over baked pastries.

5. Top with sliced strawberries, grated chocolate and mint leaves

'Eidul Fitr 2013

The day of 'Eid brings to closure a month of intense devotion, prayer and charity. It is a day of joy, a day of happiness and elation for those who have diligently applied themselves. We rejoice in having submitted to GOD ALMIGHTY, we rejoice in having sought His forgiveness, we rejoice at drenching ourselves in the mercy of GOD ALMIGHTY. We rejoice at having pleased our Master and Creator!

"Say: "In the Bounty of GOD ALMIGHTY, and in His Mercy; therein let them rejoice." That is better than (all) that they amass." (10:58). If there is any cause for celebration, it is having experienced the bounty of Ramadâan and the Mercy of GOD ALMIGHTY! This day begins with the 'Eid Prayer which demonstrates the unity and brotherhood of the believers. "All Believers are but brothers.” (49: 10) This brotherhood…this meeting of hearts is a unique and distinct characteristic of this Ummah, which we must never take for granted.

The glorious Holy Qur'ân says: "If you (O' Prophet of Allâh) had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allâh has united them…" (8:63) The brotherhood of the Ummah serves as the basis for the equality of believers, irrespective of their financial, racial or ethnic backgrounds. It also creates a distinct bond based on mutual concern and compassion among the brotherhood of believers.

And whoever relieves a distress from a Muslim GOD ALMIGHTY will relieve him of the distresses of the Day of Judgment, and whoever conceals the shortcomings of a Muslim, GOD ALMIGHTY will conceal (his shameful deeds) on the day of Qiyâmah."

(Bukhârî & Muslim) The day of 'Eid should therefore renew our commitment to helping those in need, seeking forgiveness from those that we may have offended, fostering ties with our family members and contributing in our own limited ways to bettering the plight of our brothers and sisters who are condemned to live under oppressive and poverty stricken conditions.

This is also a day we need to look within and assess the position of our Îmâan ( faith ) and our obedience to GOD ALMIGHTY. The Holy Prophet ( PBUH ) has said: “There is none

among you who does not have a constant companion from the Jinn (devil) and a companion from the Malâikah (angels)…”

(Muslim) The function of the devil is to entice you, mislead you and tempt you to partake of the 'forbidden fruit', whilst the function of the angel is to encourage you towards virtue, piety and acts of purity. Ramadâan gave us the foresight to identify the whisper of the devil and the spiritual strength to avoid falling victim to it, it gave us the wisdom and inclination to be receptive to the murmur of the angel.

Ramadâan was intended to cleanse the hearts from the rust of heedlessness…a heart corroded with rust does not feel pleasure in obedience, nor any remorse at the disobedience of GOD ALMIGHTY. No virtue flows into it, nor can any repentance flow out of it. Has Ramadâan made a difference to the state of our hearts? Will we find the drive to obey Allâh and the conscience to feel remorse at our indifference to the laws of GOD

The day of 'Eid is also an occasion to reflect at the utility of the Holy Qur'ân in our lives. We have listened to the Holy Qur'ân and read the Holy Qur'ân during the days and nights of Ramadâan. Is it not time that we start understanding the message of the Holy Qur'ân?

“The Holy Qur'ân opens its doors only to those who knock with a depth of yearning, sincerity of purpose and exclusiveness of attention that befits its importance and majesty.

Only those who are prepared to abandon themselves completely to its guidance and do their utmost to absorb it are allowed to gather from its treasures. What a tragic misfortune it would be if you came to the Holy Qur'ân and went away empty handed, soul untouched, heart unmoved, and life unchanged. You may recite its words and turn its pages endlessly and laboriously, yet fail to make an encounter with it that enriches and transforms your whole person. The Holy Qur'ân's blessings are limitless, but the measure of your fill depends entirely upon the capacity and suitability of the receptacle you bring to it… So make yourself more deeply aware of what the Holy Qur'ân means to you, and what it demands of you; and make a solemn determination to recite the Holy Qur'ân in an appropriate manner, so that you may be counted among: “Those whom We have given the book, they recite it as it ought to be recited; and (it is only) they who believe in it” (2:121)” May GOD ALMIGHTY infuse the spirit of Ramadâan into our lives for the next eleven months. May HE make us of those who have earned His pleasure, mercy and forgiveness on this blessed day.

INTRODUCTION MEANING EID UL FITR means recurring happiness or festivity, and the Day of Eid is very important for all Muslims.

UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS OF EID-ULFITR EID UL FITR is unique in every way. It has the merits of the daily Prayers, the effects of the weekly convention (Jumu`ah), and the characteristics of annual reunions between Muslims.

EID UL FITR is a Day of Thanksgiving where Muslims assemble in a brotherly and joyful atmosphere to offer their thanks and gratitude to Almighty God for helping them to fulfill their spiritual obligations during the Month of Ramadaan. This form of Thanksgiving is not confined to spiritual devotion and verbal expressions; It goes far beyond that to manifest itself in an amazing expression of social and humanitarian concern. The Muslims, having completed the month-long Fast of Ramadâan,

distribute charity among the poor and needy on this Day of EID UL FITR. And so, even when in his happiest mood, a Muslim is required not only to express thanks to Almighty God, but to remember his poor and needy brethren in a practical manner. This expression of Thanksgiving for EID UL FITR is a wholesome combination of spiritual devotion and humanitarian benevolence.

DAY OF REMEMBRANCE 3. EID UL FITR is a Day of Remembrance.

Even in their most joyful state, the Muslims make a fresh start on the Day of Eid by a session of worship and prayer to Almighty God. They pray to Him and glorify His name in order to demonstrate their remembrance of His favours. Along with that, they remember the deceased and pray for their souls, they remember the needy and extend a helping hand, they remember the grieved ones by showing them sympathy and consolation, and they remember the sick by cheerful visits and utterances of good wishes. Thus, EID UL FITR is truly a Day of Remembrance.

DAY OF VICTORY 4. EID UL FITR is a Day of Victory. The Muslim individual who succeeds in securing his spiritual rights and growth receives Eid with a victorious spirit. The believer, who

DAY OF FORGIVENESS 6. EID UL FITR is a Day of Forgiveness.

Muslims assemble on this Day and pray sincerely to Almighty God for forgiveness. And God has assured those who approach Him with sincerity, of His mercy and forgiveness. The Muslim individual finds himself moving along with others responding to the spirit of the Day to purify his heart and soul. Thus, he forgives those who might have wronged him. When he forgives his fellow Muslim, the virtue of forgiveness is mercifully exercised by Almighty God, and widely exchanged among the Muslims. And that marks this Day as a Day of Forgiveness.

A DAY OF ISLAM This is the true meaning of EID UL FITR: a Day of Peace and Thanksgiving; a Day of Forgiveness and Moral Victory; a Day of Good Harvest and Remarkable Achievements; a Day of Remembrance and Joyous Festivity; The Islamic Eid is all this and much more; because it is a DAY OF ISLAM, a DAY OF GOD. CONCLUSION We pray that Almighty God guide us to recognise Truth for what it is and give us the strength to follow it, and we pray that He guide us to recognise falsehood for what it is and give us the determination to keep away from it

Both the boys and girls U17 teams won the event and will represent Lower Tugela Schools at the iLembe District Schools game. U23 Talent Identification Programme Tigers Football Club will be hosting an U23 talent identification programme on Sunday, August 11 at the KwaDukuza Recreation Ground at 9.30 am.

Players with talent as a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or striker are requested to attend the talent identification session. The programme will entail a theoretical and practical session with players involved in no less than five short matches and are therefore advised to come suitably attired.

Players who impress at Sunday's session will have an opportunity to sign on for Tigers who ply their trade in the SAFA SAB Regional League.
