family has been left devastated after the loss of a well-liked, timid and kind hearted young man. The senseless attack on the Glendale businessman took place during a robbery last Thursday at around 5pm. The victim succumbed to his injuries yesterday, 5 September 2017.

According to Sergeant Mahlobo of Glendale SAPS, the victim was at his place of business when he was accosted by three unknown males.

“They demanded cash, cellphones and other items such as a computer. It is alleged that they took the items and an undisclosed amount of cash, and chopped the victim on his head with a cane knife. When police arrived at the scene, the victim was found lying on the ground, he was rushed to hospital” he said.

Mahlobo added that the victim's wife also sustained injuries on her hand as the suspects allegedly used a knife to remove her watch.

“No arrests have been made. A case of business robbery and murder has been opened and detectives are investigating the matter.”

Among her accolades, she was South Africa's Minister of Health from 1994-99, under President Nelson Mandela, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, under presidents Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe. She was moved to the position of Minister of Home Affairs in the first term of her exhusband, President Jacob Zuma.

On 15 July 2012, Dlamini-Zuma was elected by the African Union Commission as its chairperson, making her the first woman to lead the organisation. Mthembu also took jibes at other presidential candidates.

“Leaders are those who were not sell-outs, being a sell-out comes in two ways. It could be that you ran away when things were tough or you chose to enrich yourself.”

Murder suspect sought by detectives

WANTED: Bongani Gumede

KwaDukuza Detectives are appealing to members of the public to assist in tracing the whereabouts of a wanted murder suspect. According to Captain Nqobile Gwala (KZN SAPS Spokesperson), it is alleged that on 1 August 2014, Nomzamo Mnyandu (28) was brought to hospital for medical attention after she was severely assaulted by the suspect. She sustained head and body injuries and died in hospital on 3 August 2014.

“A case of murder was opened at KwaDukuza SAPS. The

KwaZulu-Natal courts have taken the fight against women and child molestation to greater heights by imposing hefty sentences on the perpetrators.

In June this year, activist Rees Mann told a talk show host that 25% of South African girls will be sexually abused by the time they turn 18 and a study in 2014 showed that KZN had the highest rate of child molestation cases than any other province in South Africa.

These shocking discoveries have seen courts in and around the country handing heavy sentences to child molesters.

Mandeni hosts IDP meeting

New senior officials for Maphumulo Municipality

On 01 September 2017, Maphumulo Municipality unveiled two new senior officials, namely Mr. Phakama Mhlongo who will take reigns as the Municipal Manager and Mr. Thulani Khuluse who will be the Director of Corporate Services. Phakama Mhlongo is the former Municipal manager at Ndwedwe and Thulani Khuluse is the former speaker of KwaDukuza Municipality.

Speaking during the introduction of these officials, Maphumulo

Mayor, Zibuyisile Khuzwayo-Dlamini cited that the municipality is looking forward to working with them as they implement their knowledge and skills.

“I encourage the community of Maphumulo to support both the new Municipal Manager and the new Director of Corporate Services; and give them the time and patience needed in order to strengthen our Municipality. It is important to have the right leadership in our Municipality to move our organisation towards ensuring that we meet our IDP and service delivery

targets. I fully trust our leadership, and by working together we will become stronger and continue to move Maphumulo forward,” said her worship, Khuzwayo-Dlamini before thanking the outgoing acting Municipal Manager.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Phindile Marry Sishi.

Mandeni IDP Manager, Mrs Phumzile Luswazi said the forum is aimed at presenting the adopted 20182019 IDP Budget and Performance Management Systems process plan which is meant to guide the first IDP and Budget review processes, to present the proposed community consultation programme on

the IDP process plan and Municipal Performance highlights for 2016/17. She further explained that the forum is aimed at outlining the process for the review of the ward based plans in line with the 2018/19 IDP and Budget review process, outlining the process for the registration of projects from sector departments and MTREFs. She added that the forum seeks to outline the process towards the review of the Municipal sector plans accompanying the IDP. The IDP, Budget and Performance Management

Systems process plan has been drafted in line with the iLembe District Municipality's IDP framework plan and COGTA IDP Management plan and serves to guide the management of the entire IDP process.

It was also announced that the community consultation programmes will take place from 3 - 14 September 2017.

Heritage Month is excellent for social cohesion Citizens of KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM), in terms of out and out heritage can be proud of the fact that we have, for example, eternal icons in King Shaka kaSenzangakhona and Inkosi Albert Luthuli whose lives are so intimately interwoven in the social fabric on a localised level and Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi and his efforts on a national and international level recognised all of the above heroes historic men have statues and monuments in their honour in the CBD. This month we may be more cognisant as we walk past or drive past our heritage sites remembering the qualities that these icons espoused and how it shaped KwaDukuza's consciousness at the time and still continues to resonate. From Women's Month we now transition into Heritage Month and uppermost in our collective minds will be the King Shaka Day celebrations.

Social cohesion among all denizens of KDM being the buzzword is so much more encouraged now. The humanity of KwaDukuza with its vibrant and signature ethnic cultures that imbibe each others' music, food and traditions is magnified in these 30 days of numerous events.

Social cohesion allows us to manifest within ourselves, within interactions with fellow human beings the qualities of compassion, mutual respect, kinship, dialogue and allowing connectedness.

Sibusiso Mbatha of Glenhills alleges that he was robbed by three workmates. He alleges that he alighted from a taxi and was walking home. He was approached by his three workmates who grabbed him, assaulted him and took R500 cash from him. On questioning them about their actions, they replied that because he was stupid, they were taking his money. Mlu Mhlongo (26), Siyabonga Mchunu (35) and Bongani Ntuli (43) will seek bail this week.

The last day The last day of Women's Month ended in the brutal killing of Lihle Promise Bhodoza (23). According to witnesses, she was walking with them when she was accosted by her boyfriend whose violent outbursts sent her two friends running for cover.

They heard the two arguing and the screams of Bhodoza as her boyfriend allegedly stabbed her.

Show and tell A Ntshawini mother of a 12year-old acted swiftly when she received reports of her daughter's spending at the school tuck shop. On

questioning the child she refused to speak. Upon receiving a hiding from her mother, she confessed that the shop owner had raped her and given her R25.00 to buy her silence. Shocked by this admission, the child was taken to the police and hospital where she was examined and treated.

A 43-year-old spaza store owner will seek bail this week.

Nightmare in Doringkop Mbuyiseni Zondi is lucky to be alive. He alleges that he was awoken at about 01:00am by the noises coming from his mother's house. He noticed a known person armed with a cane knife and shouted at him.

The man came to his room which is in the same yard as his mother's house and attacked him by striking him on the chest. Zondi tried to fight back but the attacker left. He returned a while later and demanded money from Zondi. He assaulted Zondi with his cane knife for a second time and took cash and a cellphone. As Zondi lost consciousness, the culprit went to attack his mother.

Fortunately, her screams alerted neighbours who rallied to her assistance and he fled. Last week, Goodman Ndlovu (36) was arrested for the attack and will seek bail this week.

Students at Thembeni Primary school welcomed spring by decorating a host of beautiful flowers and also had fun in the sun to signal their appreciation of the beauty that comes with this season.

Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the Lion was caught in the toils of a hunter's net. Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free.

The infamous N2 stretch from Ballito to Mandeni lived up to its notoriety following two incidents on Saturday, 02 September and again o n T u e s d a y, 0 5 September 2017.

On Saturday, three taxis were involved in a collision at Umvoti Toll Plaza, multiple injuries were reported as a result of this accident.

On Tuesday, the N2 stretch between Zinkwazi and Mandeni was closed from around 6am to 8am due to a truck accident.

Somnath lifts Dhana Govender Memorial singles title

There was a large turnout at the Quartz Sports Bar and Centre in Stanger Manor on Wednesday night as the KwaDukuza Darts Associatiation hosted the Dhana Govender Memorial singles darts tournament.

In the top half of the draw Naven Coopsamy beat Paddy Padayachee 2-1. Ajen Singh beat Devan Gounden 2-0.

Vasa Rungasamy beat Len Naidoo 2-0 and Julian Pillay beat Terrence Subban 2-1 to advance into the quarter final.

In the bottom half of the draw Ashley Haripersadh

beat Leon Moonsamy 2-1 Jodie Naidoo beat Kyle Pillay 2-1, Neeran Somnath beat Asogan Luthsumanan 21 and Darrel Shanmagum beat Yogan Pillay 2-1 to book their place in the quarter final.

There were big upsets with the top players being knocked out of the tournament leaving the tournament wide open.

Naven beat Ajen 2-0 to book himself into the semifinal. Vasa booked himself a place against Naven by beating Julian.

Jodie played above himself

beating Ashley 2-1 to advance into the semi-final to meet Neeran who beat Darrel 2-1.

In the first semi-final, Naven Coopsamy was in scintillating form against Rungasamy and defeated him 2-1 to advance into the final whilst Neeran outplayed Jodie and won 2-0 to set up a m o u t h watering clash a g a i n s t Naven.

The finals attracted a

large crowd that cheered the two challengers. Naven Coopsamy, who posted huge tallies started the game with a 171 score (three triple 19).

This did not deter Neeran Somnath as he retaliated with a score of 140. With all the cheers and support from their fellow team

mates, this gave the game a real turn as Somnath had the upper hand and set himself in comfortable double 20. With Navern trying to do catch up, Somnath closed the game and went a set up.

In the second set, Somnath left his opponent flat-footed as he posted high scores and

won the game easily to claim the Dhana Govender Memorial singles title.

KDDA thanked the Govender family for the sponsor.

Tonight KDDA will kick off the league which is sponsored by Sanjay from Dolphin Plumming.
