Tragedy at Tinley Manor Beach By Xpress Reporter

An 18-year-old Groutville boy was swept out to sea at a popular North Coast beach on Thursday, 23 January 2014 at approximately 1:45pm. Netcare 911 paramedics and local residents looked on as Search and Rescue in a helicopter and jet skis were deployed in a search that yielded no results on the day. The incident happened outside where the tidal pool

area is, at the destination's unofficial second car park. According to the boy's father, Bheki Ngwenya, his son; Sphamandla who completed matric last year, went out with his three cousins on that very hot day. According to an eyewitness on the scene, the three cousins allegedly made their way to the pair of rocks, almost six meters towards the sea from the shoreline. “The boy tried to swim

around the rocks to meet up with his cousins who were standing there but he just disappeared underwater.” Search and rescue found the boy's body almost 24 hours after he went missing at the unofficial third car park in Tinley Manor Beach. The body of Ricky Naidoo (45) of Sunny Park, who allegedly drowned at Blythedale Beach on Sunday, 19 January; was found on Saturday and his funeral took place at his residence Halaal o n Monday.

Municipality has yet to comment on the Friday's power outage and the streetlight issue. How much does it cost KDM to run one streetlight for 24 hours in rands? However we got a message from a source late Tuesday afternoon that read: “They showed me that terminals are melting at a 400 kw breaker. Our pump/pumps are drawing extra current and tripping.

Remember in the past two weeks we burnt a motor and damaged a motor bearing yesterday. It reveals that we are using an over- rated pump on a 90 kw motor. Urgent! Replace bearing on pump that bombed out.”

K9 Security and G4S apprehend Nforce security nab “whoonga boys” armed robbers By Xpress Reporter

By Xpress Reporter

The officers of both K9 Security and G4S Security managed to foil armed robbers at a popular CBD clothing retail store on Monday morning. According to K9 Security owner, Sooraj Maharaj, eight suspects were involved in the botched robbery that took place at approximately 8:30am. “We noticed four men inside the store and four men outside when we arrived,” he said. Sooraj said that his officers had to chase the suspects on foot and confirmed no gunfire was exchanged. “We managed to apprehend two suspects,” said Maharaj. G4S response officer Ian Ngobese said that he chased suspects on foot from the store until managing to

The NForce security team headed by owner and active field member, Nitesh Arjun, nabbed two Indian youth at the taxi rank for whoonga and jewellery possession on Monday morning. Prebyn Moonsamy (20) of Stanger Manor and “Doogie” (according to Moonsamy) were nabbed for being in possession of 20 straws of whoonga (street value of R600) and a suspected stolen 18-carat diamond ring. “I was on patrol when I noticed that one of the youth put something inside his pants,” said Arjun. Arjun tracked the “R 40 000 ring” to a pawn shop in the CBD with Moonsamy in toe. The KwaDukuza SAPS then

Eye witness Thanks to a brave young man, police have apprehended a suspect in the killing of Sambanathan Moodley. It is alleged that on the night of 24 December 2013, Moodley had gone to the Ntshawini area to pick up an employee. After gathering sufficient evidence linking the gun-toting youth to the crime, the man reported to police. Lawlessness reigns The year ended on a sour note for Vukani Ngcobo of Doringkop. He alleges that he was awoken at about midnight on 30 December 2013 by banging on his door to a hostile reception. Once at the owners house, he denied knowledge of the robbery at the premises and was severely beaten up by the armed group. Paraffin was poured on him and he was

Derrick Msomi is at a loss for words to try and explain how he was attacked at his home during September. He alleges that he was asleep when he heard persons knocking. His two cousins were also asleep in the house. After ignoring the knocking, a group of four broke down and entered his place. He recognized one person who grew up before him. This week psychology gets its share of providing laughter… • What's the difference between a psychologist and a magician? A magician pulls rabbits out of hats, whereas a psychologist pulls habits out of rats. • How many psychotherapists does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one, so long as the light bulb “wants” to change. • “Doctor,” said the receptionist over the phone, “there's a patient here who thinks he's invisible.” “Well, tell him I can't see him right now.” • A man was walking in the street one day when he was brutally beaten and robbed. As he lay unconscious and bleeding, a psychologist, who happened to be passing by, rushed up to him and exclaimed: “My God! Whoever did this really needs help!”

A local resident, who requested to remain anonymous, was so agitated by the ongoing stench emanating from a burst water pipe that he took on the responsibility of doing something about it. He stated that for several months, the area was developing into a swamp and he reported to various persons. According to the resident, a contractor did attend, however, they merely dug a hole which is now similar to a pond on the pavement from which the water overflows. On Sunday, he and one of the youths, Revashin Naidoo, cleaned up the area and returned it to its normal condition. He added that various authorities and Ward Committee members pass the area daily and simply ignore the problem. Editor's note: It will be interesting to know how much the contractors were paid for not doing their job. BEFORE AND AFTER: Residents took the initiative of cleaning up this area themselves

Tootels Tootels Store was established by the Late Mohammed Ebrahim Tootla in the 1960's. Mr Tootla had a vision for fashion as his business retailed popular brand names for men from fashion houses such as Durban clothing (Man - about Town) Rex Trueform, Monatic Alba (Carducci) Ascot Shirts and other leading brands. Some of the popular ladies brands stocked were Manhattan, Tej, Caravelle and Treasures. The business was sold in the early 1980's to Cassim Tootla, A.S Tootla, Ahmed Manjra and Ismail Manjra. The business infrastructure was uplifted with a new interior and the

introduction of a new debtors account department. In the late 90's the business was taken over by Cassim Tootla and A.S Tootla. In the year 2000, Mr Cassim Tootla became sole proprietor of Tootels. After his demise in 2006, Mr Mohammed Danka, the grandson of the late

Councillors Corner

“Our constitutional right to water is violated by iLembe Council” Regardless of any problem consumers or residents are entitled to at least 200 liter of water per day. Despite tanker services this is not happening. Since new year's day Stanger Manor and other areas have been worst hit. It seem though there is no urgency to resolve this issue simply because most of the problems are attended to the same complaints many times. Are contractors engaged competent I think not, we need professional who understand the dynamics and carrying out repairs that would last for a long time instead to repairing and replacing the same item over and over again. An independent assessment needs to be carried out to ascertain almost a month long water crisis with a view to find solutions. Thus far the council has failed the community who religiously pay their bills on time. The public has the right to

know from ILembe, ignoring the problem will not disappear. We demand full explanation. 1. What are the short term action plan to resolve crisis quickly. 2. What are the medium term action plan with upgrades and expansion of water schemes 3. What are the long term action plan on sustainability of the water schemes. 4. Is council budgeting enough for regular maintenance or is there a maintenance plan 5. Why more tankers were not deployed to water crisis area even it meant hiring tankers .Peaceful protest is planned to highlight the plight of disgruntled residents, if this crisis is not resolved. I will be writing to the National Minister of Water Affairs for intervention. Cllr Madhun Sobram Sing - Ward 17 DA Ilembe District Constituency - Chairperson

enter water feet first. • Avoid rip currents. Watch for dangerous waves and signs of rip currents, like water that is discoloured and choppy, foamy, or filled with debris and moving in a channel away from shore. If you are caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore; once free of the current, swim diagonally toward shore. • Look for lifeguards. Select swimming sites that have lifeguards whenever possible. • Be on the lookout. • Don't hyperventilate. Swimmers should never hyperventilate before swimming underwater or try to hold their breath for long periods of time. This can cause them to pass out (sometimes called “shallow water blackout”) and drown.

• Learn to swim and teach your children how to swim. Formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning. But even when children have had formal swimming lessons, constant, careful supervision when in the water, and barriers to prevent unsupervised access are necessary to prevent drowning. • Learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). In the time it might take for lifeguards or paramedics to arrive, your CPR skills could save someone's life. • Avoid drinking alcohol before or during swimming, boating, or water skiing. • Heed warning flags. Know the meaning of and obey warnings represented by coloured beach flags, which may vary from one beach to another. • Know the terrain. Be aware of and avoid drop-offs and hidden obstacles in 1 & 2 Yellowwood Road, Alderman Maurice natural water Industrial Area, Stanger sites. Always Tel: 032 552 4232 or Cell: 083 503 6375

Mikailin: An all round sports star

Mikailin Naicker has risen as an all round sports star having received accolades in karate, soccer, volleyball and cricket. His young lad has gone places in his young and illustrious career. Mikailin began his first karate lesson at the tender age of 3. He showed immense potential in martial arts and soon grew to become a feared karate exponent. After 13 years of gruelling training and dedication he achieved the much coveted status of Black Belt in 2012. During his career he achieved KZN style colours on every occasion that he participated. He also received his South African Style colours on various attempts. He was selected as part of the South African Team to represent the WKSA in Mauritius and Sweden. He is an assistant instructor and junior referee of the World Karate-do Shotokan Academy under the auspices of Karate South Africa. He was disappointed not to have been selected for the KZN all styles team in 2013 due to being disqualified for excessive contact but intends to make amends for that in 2014. When Mikailin was 14 years he represented Stanger

Manor Secondary at the Mr Price Pro Tournament in the Under 19 division. His strength and skill led the team to win a few games. Mikailin enthusiasm in volleyball began when he was dumped into the Stanger Manor Primary school team whilst at a tournament as a spectator. That was the beginning of an eventful career. Whilst just 11 years old, Mikailin began playing for Darnall Volleyball Club in the U21 ranks. After gaining much experience after playing for Darnall in the Senior Competitive ranks, Mikailin guided the Under 21 team to scoop all the silverware during one season. After losing a key player in an unfortunate motor accident, Mikailin, who was just 13 years old, was forced to ply his skill in the key position as the setter in the Darnall senior team. In Grade 8, at the age of 12, he represented Stanger Manor Secondary at District level and having emerged victorious, then represented the District at the Provincial Championships where he gained his KZN colours and was placed as the captain. He was then selected as part of the SA Team. He also represented Stanger Manor

at the age of 13. He again received his KZN colours at provincial games and represented KZN at the National level in Port Elizabeth. He received numerous accolades from the Stanger and District Volleyball Association including being the youngest

player to feature in the senior competitive league. Mikailin began his cricket career whilst in primary school and excelled swiftly. Being a natural with bat and ball he was part of the Stanger Manor Primary School team that toured Swaziland. Whilst at Stanger

Manor Secondary, at 14 years he was part of the team that toured India participating in an Under 19 tournament. He represented the school at District level and then received his KZN Colours in 2012 and participated at the South African Cricket Tournament in Grahamstown. In 2013 Mikailin was selected to represent the district again. He

received his KZN Colours once more and this time was appointed captain of the KZN U17 team. He then represented the province at the South African Cricket Festival in Kimberley. Here, at the Cricket SA awards, he received the bowling accolade. He currently plays for Dawnheights Cricket Club in the Challenge League.

MAMA ZAINABU With Samuli Powder TRUE STORY Vanessa (40) - Musgrave. We would like to inform the world that it really works as we won the money in Suncoast casino using Mama Zainabu’s Samuli powder . We first heard about Mama Zainabu last year but we couldn’t believe it first until last month when our aunt went to her and her life changed after she won a lot of jack pots at suncoast casino. My husband and I were very deep in debts our house was almost going away by the banks our cars were already repossessed, so we decided to try Mama Zainabu’s Samuli powder we booked an appointment and went to her. She charged us and read out our fortune, we were so surprised when she told us every thing, she even touched the days we met and the reason why we were failing in life. She prayed for us and gave us the samuli powder to use. We began by playing the machines and later went to the tables. Everyone was looking at us. We were winning, we won a lot in the casino. Now that we have money our lives have changed. We paid of our debts bought a new house and now we opening new businesses. We testify out of our faith that Mama Zainabu has served us all in our family, she is God sent. We regard her as our family mother. Our children are back to good schools. AFTER SUFFERING IN PAIN FOR SO MANY YEARS, MAMA SHEILLAH SOLVED MY PROBLEMS Mrs. Moodley (48 Years) from Stanger. My husband of 4 kids was so abusive, drinking and smoking too much. Sometimes he could go out with his friends with women. I read a love sms from his phone and I phoned the lady. From that time I realised he was also cheating on me. He was not buying groceries and not helping at all. A friend of mine referred me to MAMA SHEILLAH who she said MAMA SHEILLAH helped her with husband to come back. I decided to consult MAMA SHEILLAH who read all my problems. She prayed for me and gave me a small potion to use at home. Within three days my husband stopped his abusive ways and confessed that he had an affair but he has stopped. We now live together happily. Thank you MAMA SHEILLAH. R.Maharaj (52 Years) My neighbours were so jealous of my success, I was a successful businessman but every morning I would see bones wrapped in a red cloth with Muthi. My company was loosing tenders, I sold 4 of my trucks, I sold my bakkie in one year my business collapsed was losing tenders, I had so many debts until I read an article in the newspaper about MAMA SHEILLAH award winner for healing. I decided to phone her. She booked an appointment before I could say anything she told me that I have financial hardships and it’s because my neighbour is jealous. I broke into tears and sat down. She cleansed me and told me to stay away from my neighbour for one week. I went back and told her and she prayed for me. After 3 months my business started to pick up and now I opened up another branch and I paid all my debts and I bought a new house. Now I am living a happy life with my family. Those suffering like me try her for better results. Thank you MAMA SHEILLAH

And so ended a splendid career which would have risen to even greater heights had it not been truncated by periodic absences when various niggling ailments prevented him from being completely match fit. An amiable and pleasantly disposed man, he has done some commendable work in organising coaching and development programmes for keen youngsters in his home town. In recent times he umpired premier league matches and quickly earned a reputation as a respected and most competent match official. He subsequently became a more than capable administrator, heading the province's Umpiring Association for several seasons with much zeal and energy. Rest in Peace Mahalingum 'Child' Govender. KwaDukuza loses one of its greatest cricketing sons It was with shock when news of the passing away on Monday, 27 January 2014 of one of KwaDukuza's greatest cricketing sons, Mahalingum

There were times when he chose to bowl round the wicket and slanted the ball across the right-hander: this made him a very awkward customer to negotiate. His height enabled him to obtain lively bounce off the wicket and his bumper came on to batsmen just a little bit quicker than they expected. It brought him a fair share of wickets when many players tried to parry or fend off the ball and only succeeded in depositing it into short leg's waiting hands. Others, who tried to attack him, lost their wickets through mistimed hooks or pulls. He was brought to the notice of the celebrated Basil D'Oliveira who was invited by the United Tobacco Company to conduct a coaching tour in this country in 1967, Shop 1B Ushaka Mall soon after his memorable Haysom Road • Tel: 032 551 4974 69B King Shaka Street Test debut for England Tel: 032 551 2214 against the West Indies. KWADUKUZA LEGEND: Mahalingum 'Child' Govender (back) in happier times with his family

Cape Town in January 1967. In the company of many seasoned campaigners he performed creditably, taking 2 for 12 in a short opening spell in the first innings. Thereafter he was selected for the Natal team to play in the fourth Dadabhay Tournament in Cape Town in 1968. As a fledgling fast bowler learning his craft, his opportunities were limited but in the subsequent tournament in Kimberley, two seasons later, he showed signs of marked development with some good spells of hostile bowling. He took his first five-wicket haul against Transvaal in the following season in Johannesburg and his moment had arrived as the frontline paceman for his province. Mahalingum was the kingpin of the provincial pace attack in those wonderful seasons of 1971 to 1973 when a fine Natal team shared the Dadabhay Trophy with Western Province under the captaincy of Gopaul Manicum. In that period he captured 17 wickets at an average of 15,12 with career best figures of 9 for 91 (5 for 31 and 4 for 60) against Eastern Province at the Adcock Stadium in Port Elizabeth in December 1971. He was fortunate in that he had an experienced and shrewd captain who nursed his number one fast bowler with care and used him in effective spells. It was at this time, too, that he established a tenth wicket provincial record partnership of 71 with wicketkeeper-batsman Ismail Timol against Eastern Province, his share being 25.

National recognition also followed with selection for the South African Invitation XI against Eastern Province in a two-day game at Port Elizabeth in November 1972. His progress suffered a cruel setback when he was forced to miss the following two seasons through persistent injury. This misfortune was to plague him on several occasions for the rest of his career but he soldiered on manfully. He made a most welcome return to interprovincial cricket in the second half of the 1975-76 season, taking 10 wickets at 9,20 and headed the national averages. This included a typically fiery and productive spell of 5 for 35 against Western Province at Tills Crescent in Durban. He continued to play for the province for several seasons thereafter but his appearances were intermittent because he had become injury prone. In the 1978-79 season he showed something of his old spark and fire in a fine stint of 5 for 48 against Western Province. One got the distinct impression that, when he was not in the Natal side, the bowling lacked artillery and the pace attack was not firing on all cylinders. The 1983-84 season was his swansong and, appropriately enough, it ended on a high note with 13 wickets at 14,77, including a career best single innings return of 6 for 47 against Transvaal. It was a lion-hearted effort which earned Natal a comprehensive victory by 182 runs. He departed from the interprovincial
