a n d n e t b a l l o n t h e weekend, bit of rain but plenty of sunshine to follow itup.

Our day on the football field started of slow but we are growing as a club and playing some great football in patches throughout all ourJuniorgrades.

Goal of the day from the boundary goes to Tyrece Porter in the under 14s with theonlymajorfortheteam. Nothing better then seeing a flat floating spiral slowly floatthroughthesticksfrom theboundaryline.

Our16sand18sbothplayed solid football in patches and are growing as a team. As they play more together they better they will become so very positive signs.

Our ressies keep on playing good football and had some first gamers for the club hit the field Patrick Rudd (Badger) and Olek Stirrat played there first games for the club and both done the jumper proud. And we also hadthereturningpensioner in Dwayne Phillips that

TIGER JUNIOR NOTES TIGER JUNIOR NOTES

U12E

It was another great effort for the E’s against West. Great teamwork and sharing thefootybythewholeteam.

Award winners this week were Flynn Moyle, Cruz Bilney, Sam Copping, Nate JohnsonandKadeLynagh.

U12D

Round two had North Gambier U12 D’s playing against West Gambier Football Clubonwhatwasagreatdayoffootballinthesunshine.Inthefirst30seconds,we had our first goal kicked by Morgan Renko, by a superb midfield clearance. Ryan Davison provided elevation in his ruck work, which assisted others to grab the football and go in what was a generous distance between goals. Jimmy Crozier displayed slick hands to move the ball like a hot potato, and the likes of Brax Edwards, Corey Phillips and Xavier Wurst provided a link in the chain to move the ballforward.BeauWhelanusedthespaceofthegroundextremelywellandkicked throughthebigsticks.

West Gambier players showed some amazing skills with some superior marking, handballingandkicking, whichproducedmultiplegoalsbeingkicked.Thiscreated a few magnet changes to the Tigers field and exposed the elite running of Flynn Buckley and Finn Roscow In what was all about teamwork, creating space and looking for the right options to kick too, this was done with plenty of smiles and laughs!

Awards on the day were handed to Finn Roscow, Xavier Wurst, Hudson Rogers, CoreyPhilipsandMorganRenko.

It was a much improved effort after round 1 from the entire team The contribution was collective and the coaches could have easily given awards to many more players. The first year and less advanced players should be recognised fortheirindividualgamesandabilitytobecomepartoftheteam.

Aweekislongweekinfootball, particularly if you play two games. While it is an honour andprivilegetoplayAnzacDay, a few of the seniors struggled to come up after a short turn around.

AllcredittoWest, whowerefar too good on the day and will hold on to the Tom Hall Trophy for another year, noting they were fairly confident, not worrying about bringing the trophy Our senior highlight was having two debutants in W i l l B r o w n , t h e b e s t optometrist in town and Tyler Horrigan, a father son recruit. Both can be proud of their efforts.

After another quick start, we fell away in the 2nd half, seemingly getting frustrated with what was being served up. Named best players were Mitch Kelton, Cameron Ortlepp, Josh Jenner, Sam Stafford (3 goals), Dale Bachmann&TylerHarris.

Another good start to the day with coach Roulstone having the U14s flying already, having f i x e d t h e i r w a y w a r d goalkicking, goals were evenly spread with 10 individual goal scorers Better players were Sam Baron, James Butler, C h a r l i e Wa te rs , Ea s i e KulimushiandMasonRogers.

TheU16sgavecoachSamZeitz his first win after a very competitive game, holding on to an 8 point lead at the final siren. Aaron Dally channelled Jeremy Cameron and kicked 6 goals.Betterplayersontheday were Cooper Turner, Aaron Dally, Bowen Rogers, Tate SmithandChadMcLaughlin.

After a disappointing first game, coach Kevin Bryan got the U18’s up and about this week, with assistance from some of the U16s. There were some great goals and marks, including Chad taking a screamer over older brother Reece, which I am sure has been spoken about at home. The major goal scorers were

included in the best players, including Darcy Bryan (3 goals) Trae Hamilton, captain Zayne Young (4g and another that looked very close) Chad (3g) and Reece McLaughlin and JontyCollins.

The reserves are not getting the results on the field at this s t a g e , b u t t h e r e w a s improvement this week and room for more as the season goes on As a club we appreciate the reserves efforts as the new players are adding to the club activities (and saving the juniors playing m u l t i p l e g a m e s ) . Unfortunately, Tim Boxall ended up in hospital Saturday night with a nasty injury and we wish him a speedy recovery Coach Young named best players in Danny Poyner, Brayden Walters, Aidan Curtis, Bradley Nottle-Justice, James PhillipsandTimBoxall.

Today we host Millicent. While the seniors are playing a twilight game, teas are available at the club from 6pm and awards at 7.30pm, before our first social function for the year Hot Dub Tige Machine commencingaround8.30pm

Just a reminder of game times thisweek;

Congratulations to our reliable and loyal Clay Reilly on reaching 150 games His experience and poise in defencewillbewelcomedback into a Reserves team that defeated South for the first time in quite a few seasons. Matt Withers and Nat Robbins were influential against the Demons in the middle along with a great running game fromdefencebyAidanSchultz, and Josh Peters doing the finishingworkwith3goals.

After a slow start, the Seniors really kicked away in the last quarter for a comfortable 51 point win. We've welcomed back Frazer Bradley (who had to take on some of the ruck load) and Harry Tunkin from Glenelg over the past couple weeks, and also introduced Micah Rupcic for his first game for the Saints on the weekend. Micah got his share of ball in close to feed possessions out to our running players. This

good work was finished off by Jacob 'there's a pig at full forward' Carger with 6 majors, and Hamish Nitschke and Kade Varcoe with 2 each Josh Werchon, Clint Gallio and Jack Verbena were also influential acrossthegame.

Atoughdayforallofourjunior grades against some strong South outfits, but loving the effort the kids are putting in and looking forward to seeing there improvement across the season.

Norththisweekforoursecond twilight fixture for the year. Hopefully the weather is kind and a good crowd turns out to see what should be a great gameoffooty.

Rosters are now out. Please make sure you check and fulfil yourresponsibilities.

Tigerswintightgameinfirstsemi

NORTH Gambier won a narrow five-point victory in the 1954 South East and Border Football League first semi final against Millicent, played at Penola’sbigground.

It pushed the Magpies out of the finals series and the Tigers would then move into the preliminary final.

The oval was at near capacity as the two teams came onto the field with Johnnie Taylor leading Northandhewonthetoss.

North were immediately into attack and Terry O’Donnellwasfreedrightinfrontandgoaled.

Bowman for Millicent had opened strongly but his long kick fell short and North defence rushed theballoutofdanger

As soon as the North centreline, led by youngster TrevorProbert, startedtopushforwardtheywere met by the brilliance of Millicent centre half back NeilMcDonald.

His athleticism was amazing as he was either taking strong pack marks or gathering the ball on the run, dodging opponents and sending the Magpiesbackintoattack.

With Ray Thompson on top at full back and Eric Roughana during well at centre half back for Northitbecameabattleofthehalfbacklinesand neither side were able to make a dent on the scoreboard.

Probert was damaging in the centre but his long kick registered a behind as the wind and the weatherelementsstartedtoplayabigroleinhow thegamewouldpanout.

Peter Thompson then took a great mark up forward and put the Tigers two goals clear with a beautifulpuntkick.

The long striding, long kicking full back Ray Thompson raced down field to intercept with great judgement and then banged the ball 60 metres to the forward line where Peter Thompson rose above the pack to pull in a top mark and then goaled for his second in as many minutes.

John Hanel in the back pocket was giving Ray Thompson plenty of support and they denied Millicentamajorinthatfirstterm.

Firstquarter:North3.3,Millicent0.3

In the second quarter the early part was dominated by the respective full backs – Ray Thompson (North) and Darkie Stevens

(Millicent).

They both took several saving marks on the last line of defence as neither attackscouldpenetratethedefences.

Attiwill was finding plenty of the ball across centre and he drilled a pass to coach Fred Bolton at full forward and put a drop kick through for Millicent’sfirstmajoroftheafternoon.

Across half back Pearce and Roughana were combining well to halt the Magpie attacks but Neil McDonald was doing much the same at the otherendoftheground.

Stevens charged down the ground, taking two bounces and then banged the ball into the half forwardlinewhereGouldsnappedupthecrumbs andpassedtoBoltonwhoagainmadenomistake for Millicent and suddenly North had a game on theirhands.

It was all Millicent as they charged forward time and again but Ray Thompson was in great touch atfullback.

Curyer who was now on top in the centre gathered and got the ball to Downes who kicked long over the pack and while it fell short it bounced and bounced and finally dribbled through for a major for the Magpies to allow themtohitthefrontforthefirsttimeinthegame.

Bolton took a mark on the siren and from 60 metreshiskickjustfellshorttogiveMillicenta13 pointleadathalftime.

Millicent5.5(35),North3.4(22)

In the third term Millicent were gaining plenty of advantage around the packs where Clive “Bub” Stevens and Attiwill were creative plus Curyer was now a dominant player, not only at the clearances but around the ground and his ability to hit teammates with his passes made him the bigdangerplayerforNorth. Then through good work from Taylor, he got the ball to Peter Thompson and he kicked his third to narrowthegap.

BubStevens’pacewasworryingtheTigersandhe continually raced down the open spaces on the Penolaflankstopushtheballforward.

Then, Roberts gathered at centre wing, got the balltoTaylor, whoturnedbrilliantlyoutoftrouble topasstoJoeWaterswhomadenomistake, then in a mini burst of brilliance Roberts again broke free and goaled on the run and North were back infront.

It was during the midway point of the third quarter that the weather became terrible and heavyhailandgaleforcewindshittheground.

It rained heavily for the remainder of the quarter and players started to play in ankle deep water in

somepartsaroundtheground.

Threequartertime:North6.8,Millicent5.5

With heavy rain falling play became congested as both teams used their defence to hold the score line.

In the final term neither side kicked a goal. North didnotscorewhileMillicentaddedthreebehinds tonarrowthegaptofivepointsatthefinalsiren.

Adding to the problem for Millicent was their top ball winner Bub Stevens was injured into the final term and had to leave the ground and from there Millicentstruggledtoshowthesamedashthathe provided.

Peter Thompson finished with three goals while FredBoltondidthesamealthoughhehadlimited opportunities.

Ray Thompson was close to best man on the ground at full back and his height and baulk was handy in the many packs that were created, particularly when the rain came but he his aerial workwasfirstrate.

Captain coach Johnnie Taylor was everywhere and his disposal, even in the wet was excellent while Eric Roughana’s bullocking body work and dash from half back kept Millicent out time and again.

Curyer was Millicent’s best and his drive from the midfield really tore North’s talented centreline apart.

CASTERTON SANDFORD V SOUTH GAMBIER

Casterton Sandford and South Gambier are both looking for their first win of 2023 ensuring the Island Park clash between the two this weekend will be fierce.

Both sides have new look line-ups and are sll looking to sele into their best line-up.

Last weekend the Cats went down to East Gambier but certainly got their defensive efforts back on track, keeping theBulldogstoamodestscoreline.

The return of CaeleighHumphries to the court to team with Ebany Jarrad helped withthat, aswellasthetenacityofLibby Altorfer on the defensive wing and with Madalene Cleary taking the centre bib, she also brought more defensive intensity

Now the Cats will be looking to build some chemistry at the aacking end of the court as the young line-up that includes Ivy Lane, Chloe Foster and Chelsey Galpin tries to generate more scoringopportunies.

Coach Dani Russell will no doubt be using her experience and that of Cleary in the feeding roles to hopefully see thoseopportuniesincrease.

Of course, against the defensive efforts of the likes of South’s Ellie Bouchier, Mykaela Thiele and Sophie Wight, it won’t be easy as the Demons defensive stocksareathlecandreadtheplaywell.

At the other end of the court, youngster Gracie Dalton connues to find her feet and will only improve every week as she learns to compete at the top level, while Alyssa Duncan has become the clear leader of the aacking end and her bale with Humphries will be one of the mostpivotalontheweekend.

EASTGAMBIERVWESTGAMBIER

The bale between the 2021 premiers and the reigning premiers would normally be the match of the round but itwillbeatoughoungforEastGambier given their personnel changes since taking the 2021 tle, especially as West Gambier has the same line-up that took lastyear’spremiership.

Easthastwoplayersremainingfromthat 2021 premiership team – Bo Creek and Tarsh McCallum – and they will need to be in the Bulldogs’ best if they are to challengetheundefeatedRoos.

McCallum will run the aacking end of the court as she looks to build chemistry between the new shoong combinaon of Casey Horrigan and Renee Henke, while Creek rules the roost at the defensive end, combining with Morgan Amy, as well as the mid court pressure coming from Eliza Cole and Chloe Perryman.

Westlookedunstoppableintheopening round and were challenged last weekend by North but with Sarah Rier dominang the shoong circle, Tara Bryant doing the same in the mid court and Amy Cram connuing to enhance her reputaon as arguably the best defender in the compeon, the Roos have no weaknesses and will be able to take advantage of East sll looking to gel as a team and take the points comfortably

Pora McRae will have the tough task of combang the work under the post of new North shooter Grace Pos, while Lauren Van Eeden will be looking to stop the creave feeding of Macey Griffith, who also upped her shoong load in roundtwo.

At the other end of the court, the North defensive line also has a tall shooter to deal with in Tabatha Sanderson, who receives good service from Demi Verbena, who was on fire last weekend in Sanderson’s absence, shoong the lightsout.

It means Mikaila Pi, Noni McConnell and maybe even young defender Stella Mobbs will need to work over me to limit supply to both Sanderson and Verbena, as well as relying on pressure fromthemidcourtofMelRenko,Lauran NormanandBriannaWalters.

And the Tigers mid court will need to apply relentless pressure when in defensive mode and show paence and precision with ball in hand, given the Saints mid court is a perfect mix of youth, speed and experience with Lillie Paul, Daisy Tunkin, Kimmi Varcoe, who can also fill a defensive role, and Lisa Duldigtakethoseroles.

Birthday girl Sophie S had another great defensive game Eliza cleaned up her footwork as the game went on which was fantastic Emily picked up and chased all the loose balls and was able to then get the ball to a team mate. A tough game this week and we were unable to match the defensive pressure and physicality of West While there’s plenty to take away and develop, the girls didn’t give up the fight. We worked our way into the game winning the third quarter and breaking even in the fourth. Unfortunately, we were unable to minimise the lead that West created in the first half, going down 28-44. It was great to welcomeHannahFoxintotheteamforher first game this season, she added consistency and energy for us through the mid court. A big congratulations to Keeley Quinn on her 50th Senior Game for North. We look forward to a solid training, tweaking aspects of our game ready for nextweek.

A better game this week with us level pegging for the first half Our third qtr unfortunately had that come undone. But much better all over court this week Georgia moved brilliantly in goals and converted nicely and with the injection of Amelia in the centre the ball moved through the court with ease Our defenders again worked tirelessly and seem to be "almost there" each time it came down there. Let’s train hard this weekandgoagain.

Whilst Amanda worked hard to injectherselfintothegameandafterafew changesinthesecondhalfreallystartedto control the midcourt and provide lots of support and direction to the youngsters.
