First of all this week congratstoElmoMarkswho plays his 50th Senior game, the classy left footer has been a mainstay in the last few seasons and has been a fantastic bloke around the club.

A couple of weeks back at East we had a great day sneaking home in the Seniors with a big last quarter, it was great to see Bretto up and about again kicking four including three in the last. We had Jars for our Red & Rump night and hewaskeentohaveakickin the Ressies while he was down and it was great to have his experience and knowledge that he passed ontotheboysintheRessies and 18’s. The Juniors all had good wins and are playing some really good footy with a few more boys putting their hands up for a game in theSeniors.

This week we have a few reunions with the 1998 SeniorswhodefeatedNorth by 41 points in the Grand Final after they were undefeated all season and the 1998 Ressies also taking out the Flag We also welcome members of the 1993Under18’scoachedby IanWeberwhowonthefirst oftwoinarow.

We have the mechanical bull at the club on Saturday night, Sean has cooked up an American Buffet so come in and have a feed and have acrackattheBull.

Thanks to our major sponsors MG Plasterers, Mick Ryan Paintin g , Lennons on Lake Terrace, Dycer Constructions and AustralianGasNetworks.

VRound 10 saw us venture to Casterton Sandford, who put on a nice day for us and given the wet winter, a better track than we expected.

Withlimitednumbersinthe U14s our players were shared across the game Congratulations to the Cats for fronting up each week anditwasgreattoseethem celebrating the 2 goals they scored in the last ¼ Our best were named Sam Baron, Esaie Kulimushi, James Butler, Reid Hamilton andMasonRogers.

The U16s was a great game, with the Cats proving too strong in the end. Awards were given to Alexander Bruce (3 goals), Kade Allen, Chad McLaughlin (3 goals), Jackson Driver and Tate Smith.

A week is a long time in footy, with a lot of changes in the reserves from the week before, when we actually had too many to pick from. Unfortunately, this week the result didn’t change with the boys still desperately looking for a win. BestplayerswereTyler H a r r i s ( a g a i n ) , B e n Braithwaite, Sam Shepherd, Nick Mark, Bradley NottleJusticeandBrodyAllison.

The seniors did what they hadtodotogetthewin, but not without a huge struggle being only 3 points up at ¾ time. Big tick to the backline who held the Cats scoreless in the last quarter Goals were evenly spread and our bestincludedTyson

Christophersen, Tim McInerney,NickMcInerney, Cam Ortlepp, Deacon Ilsley andDarcyArthurson.

Sounds like the bus ride

home was enjoyed by all, and may become a regular featureofCastertontrips?

The country champs have b e e n a n d g o n e a n d congratulations to both the m e n s a n d w o m e n s participants, and coaches etc Unfortunately, it appears the format/draw didn’t help us making the major final in the mens, but I am sure everyone had a goodtrip.

This week we are at South, withbothclubscomingoffa bye, all teams will be fresh and looking for wins. Given the byes and draws we h a v e n ’ t h a d m u c h opportunity of late to gatherattheclub, solet’sall getbackfortheawards.

Next week we have our football reunion weekend, which promises to be huge, w i t h t h e f o l l o w i n g p r e m i e r s h i p s t o b e celebrated; 1963Reserves

A lot happens in one week, let alone two weeks, during footy season.

At our last game two weeks ago at Malseed Park, our hosts West Gambier showcased their new Tin Shed. It truly is a credit to those involved. They had plenty of past players on handtofillitupandcheertheir two senior teams to wins over our lads. Tough conditions and tough contests. Our coaching staff will be able to analyse the performances to turn these efforts around as we draw closer to the business end of theseason.

Congratulations to Kalli Brown and Kelsie Wilkinson who made the zone women's team for Country Championships in the Barossa last weekend. They won one and lost one round game and missed out in playingfinals.

Congratulations to Clint Gallio, Kade Bradley and Kade Varcoe who made the zone men's t e a m f o r C o u n t r y Championships They won both of their round games and

What a sloppy day at Malseed park again. The oval is just holding on and is hoping for some R & R with the week of and time for a needed recovery session before we host theCats!

The Junior committee working tirelessly last week to get the raffle happening for the under 12s to head to an AFL game soon. They have done a fantastic effort and thanks to Reidy and Reid Logging for supplying such a big load of wood, so make sure we all support another wonderful sponsor and thank them for the tremendous contribution.

It was a big turn out for the past players day and heard some great tales of the ‘Good Ole days’ Great to see the second best football Croker behind Harvey return to the clubforthefirsttimeinyears, along with many more past players. The beer shed was very loud and vocal frombothsidesoveradaywasbest suited to sitting in near the fires. The juniors are doing great and improving weekly and that’s very evident with our 16s being pipped with7secondstogowithacracking goal in the slippery conditions That’s football and we will rebound and get better for this. The 18s and Reserves played some great football with players in both grades putting pressure on the senior

Theseniorsfirstquarterwasnotfor the faint hearted and got the juices fired up again, Like the past players day the first quarter reminded me of the good ole days when I was sniping people because I couldn’t beat my man, second to the ball or just thought I was tough! But thankfully that was short lived and football won in the end, as them daysarebestlefttoglorifiedstories andmemories.

Wild Westies was a big night and great to see so many at the club. Cant beat a bit of line dancing and bootscootingtoseethenightin.

Congratulations to the two 100 game boys ‘Bluey” Aden Pfitzner and ‘Knackers’ Kyle Giddings. Seen them come through together and coaching them for a long time I know how much that means to them. Both played great and led fromthefrontsogreateffortboys.

VWell Cat Fans hasn't time flown, it doesn't seem that long ago that we were at Malseed Park to play West andhereweareagain,Fridgeandthe crew go from strength to strength with their hosting duties, enjoy the under cover area and all that it brings!

After a break for the SA country championships we are back to celebrate a milestone match for our President, resident Thylacine, former Coach, league medallist, employer, mentor, up for a chat, great bloke, humble, protective and, most importantly, a family man, Dylan Ayton, who plays his 150th Senior gamefortheCats.

A fortnite ago we had North come to IslandPark, theywereniceenoughto loanusafewplayersintheUnder14's and the game was enjoyed by players and spectators alike, better players were, Jagger Geary, Nate Longhurst, Billy Rhook, Harry Butterworth and NathanRobbins.

The Under 16's were also a bit short of players but were able to put 18 togetherwiththehelpofsomeUnder 14's playing a second game and were able to get the win in a very close contest, better players were Oliver Foster, Bay McKinnon, Elwood Geary, Jedd Rhook, Kaleb Sneddon and JoshuaJones.

The Senior Cats held on to the Tigers tailforaslongastheycouldbutinthe end North were the better team on the day, better players were Michael Krieger, Alastair McCrae, Gabe Parsons, Justin Carlin, Pat Milich and ZacNash.

Enjoy the day Cat Fans, keep warm, fed and hydrated, we are in the back end of the home and away season now and we don't meet the Roos again until the finals, so leave them with ringing ears as we roar CARN CATS!

RECRUITSWHOMADEWBFL‘ROCK’

Part2of5

BY the early 1970s all SA clubs in the Western Border Football League had clever and substantial recruiting divisionsandrecruiterslookedfarandwideinabidtowin apremiership.

While VFL, SANFL and major Victorian leagues were at the top of their shopping list, so too were youngsters from nearby leagues – Kowree Naracoorte, Wimmera andMidSELeagues.

Young guns such as Phil Scanlon, Perce Badenoch, Melville Childs (Glencoe), Leon Kruger (Naracoorte), Peter Sharp (Hampden), Joe Pudney (Kongorong via Central Districts) Darryl and Colin Black (Kongorong via Port Adelaide), Keith and Neil Baker (Mount Burr), Peter Schutz (Tantanoola), Dennis Mansell (Tarpeena), Kevin Harris (Wimmera) and many others were recruited to makelocalclubsverycompetitiveduringtheearly1970s.

North Gambier picked up a beauty when they enticed HampdenLeagueyoungstarruckmanPaulKeasttomove to Tigerland. The giant left footer would be the mainstay of the North rucking division over the next decade. His impactatNorthandtheWBFLwasimmediateandhewas runner-up in the 1970 WBFL Medal and played interleague in his first two seasons. Keast was an important member of North’s 1979 premiership. The Tigers also landed former Tailem Bend ruckman/forward Gorden Milosevic who won that league’s goal kicking when just 18. He would play his best footy at Penola and then East wherehewontwopremiershipsinthe1980s.

Geelong wingman Ken Gladman was snapped up as captain-coachin1971andthenMelbournecaptainFrank Davis was brought in as coach in 1974, along with Mail Medal winner and champion rover David Robbie and ex West Torrens ruck rover Brian Clark. Gladman played on with the Tigers and finally won a flag in 1979 and then retired.

In the meantime, North like other clubs were also recruiting several top players from other leagues Victorian inter-league rover Neville Watts arrived in about 1972 and made an immediate impact Keith Atchison, a no-nonsense and talented left footed centre half forward came across from the Hampden League and wasabighitwiththeTigers.

Youngster Peter Mulraney was dominating at centre half back or in the ruck but would soon be snapped up by Norwood where he played at centre half back before returningtoNorthlateinthe1970s.

Perhaps other than Keast, the three best recruits North signedduringtheearlytomid1970swereTasmaniastate player and centre half back Doug Norton-Smith, former West Adelaide centre half forward Greg Curnow and ex GeelongforwardandfollowerRobertAdams. Adams virtually walked into the club in early 1970s and asked for a game. He was a prized recruit and played his heartoutfortheTigersformorethanadecade, including the1979premiership.

A Tasmanian state player at 19, Norton-Smith is still remembered at Tigerland as one of the all-time champions of the club and played with distinction at

centre half back during the 1970s and played centre half forward in the Tigers’ 1979 premiership victory

Curnow struggled with the tough, aggressive and fierce WBFL style in his first season and at centre half forward thehighflyerwasoutofsortsuntilhewasswitchedtofull back.

Hedominatedtheairwavesfromthereonandbecamean inter-league full back, winning the WBFL Medal in 1977 –thefirstfullbacktowintheaward.HelefttheTigersearly in their 1979 premiership year and missed out on a flag but he, like Norton-Smith and later Tasmanian Lindsay Bell, lefttheirmarkontheclub.

Later North recruited ex Norwood ruck rover John Menz as coach and SA leading goal kicker from Norwood Mike ColiganbeforeexFitzroystarBarryPadleyarrivedin1979 and took North to a premiership and into the 1980 grand final. Padley also was captain of the 1979 WBFL interleaguesideandcoachin1980.

In 1979 North also signed ex South Adelaide wingman Craig Cock who was among the Tigers’ best in the premiership victory Then, of course there was the amazingroverLindsayBellwhodominatedin1979.

Across town, West built a new ground and clubrooms at MalseedParkandsaidgoodbyetosharingVansittartPark withNorthin1974.

In 1970 West had been active in recruiting one of the greats of that era, Bill Bennett who played centre half forwardinCarlton’s1968VFLpremiership. Bennettwasasuperstarandoneofthebestrecruitedby the Roos and he and another top recruit, Bill James from Melbourne were two players around which the club built its1971premiership.

Ken Bellinger had switched from the Mid SE, as had Dean Thomas and Melville Childs while former young champion ruckman John Yeates had returned from Geelong after being captain of the Cats and a member of their 1963 VFL premiership team. Barry Ward was also anotherrecruitwhohadlefthismarkattheclub.

By this time many of West’s young guns such and Barrie Hudson, John Beaton, Peter Fallas and John Madden were already playing key roles for the Roos and were influentialinhelpingWestwinthe1971flag.

The Roos weren’t idle in recruiting and attracted ex West Torrens centre half forward Paul Cummins and ex Fitzroy ruckman Dennis Dare as well as Port Adelaide star wingman Pat Taylor to the club, along with former South Melbourne player Grant McArthur who took over as captain-coach in 1974. A tough nut follower he changed the way West played and they suddenly became a tough assignment at Malseed Park and elsewhere, but a flag eludedMcArthurandWestlaterinthe70s.

Greg Cramey was a talented centreman and had played with Sturt when he was signed by West and he played a big role through the 1970s. He along with rover John McIlroy who hailed from the Hampden League and ex Glenelg forward David Maczkowiack were stand outs for theRoos.

Maczkowiack was a dangerous, long kicking half forward whowouldlaterplayintwopremiershipswithPortlandin

the mid 1980s. Maczkowiack’s battles with East Gambier champion half back Zig Golebiowski were legendary in the WBFL. West also recruited ruckman Murray Gilmour fromVictoria.

At Millicent ex West Adelaide player David Bertelsmier coached the Saints in the early 1970s before they recruitedexFitzroytoughmanandruckmanRussell“The Muscle” Crowe Later they picked up Port Adelaide premiership centre half back Bob Clayton as captaincoachand“toughnut”MikeNixon.

A coup for the Saints was signing star centreman Mark Whittington. A tall player for centre he won the 1976 WBFLMedal.

Penola relied heavily on its local players and had its best years in the mid 1970s under former South premiership player Barry Smith and recruited Gorden Milosevic and Geoff Wilson from North and both grabbed the opportunity to play major roles for the Eagles during this period.

MATCH REPORTS

In the final wash up South Gambier will be disappointed and see the weekend’s clash withEastGambierastheonethatgotaway

While barely a handful of goals ever separated the two sides, who are in a bale for fourth place, South was well in the contest unl the final quarter, where the 9-3 scoreline in favour of the Bulldogs secured thevictory

South led by two at the first change, scores were even at the main break and by three quarter me it was Eats by one but the final quarter was riddled with errors from the young Demons and had the Bulldogs finished accurately, the margin may have beengreater

The final quarter, with so much on the line, saw East take control, generang 16 scoring shotstosixandthatwasallshewrote.

The pressure from Morgan Amy and Bo Creek eventually took its toll, with the Bulldogsgenerangmuchofitsturnoverball even before the ball reached South’s shoongcircle.

InjecngtheexperienceofBrookeHicksinto the contest and moving Chloe Perryman to the defensive wing paid dividends for the Bulldogs in that decisive final quarter, while themovementfromReneeHenkeandCasey Horrigan in the shoong circle tested the Southdefenceallgame.

Megan Reid ran hard all day in the centre for South and her delivery into Alyssa Duncan and Gracie Dalton was precise, while Sophie Wight got some important touches at the defensiveend.

East was best served by its shoong combinaon.

WESTGAMBIERVMILLICENT

The second clash of the season between the 2022 grand finalists did not disappoint with reigning premiers West Gambier overcoming a five goal three quarter me deficit to take the victory over Millicent by a solitarygoal.

Thechieftaskforanyteamlookingtounseat the Roos is denying supply to Sarah Rier and never was that truer than the weekend when the star West shooter missed only one aempt for the enre clash – that miss cominginthesecondquarter–assheneed 56ofWest’s60goals.

On the back of perfect shoong from the Saints duo of Tabatha Sanderson and Demi verbena in the opening quarter – 19 from 19 – Millicent held a four goal lead at the first change.

West clawed their way back to two by the main change before Millicent again took control before the Roos final quarter onslaught.

The Roos kept their usual line-up for the majority of the four quarters, with the exceponofaslightrejiginthemidcourtfor the final quarter and a late call up to Tahlia Earl to the goal keeper role in the final quarter when Jade Rier was forced from thecourt.

TheSaints, ontheotherhand, madechanges to their defensive line and their mid court duringthecourseofthematch.

In the end, it was a bale of the tall mber goal shooters and which team could limit supply and while Sanderson accounted for 48ofMillicent’s59goaltallyitcamedownto that frenec final quarter where West just generatedmorescoringopportunies.

Rier remains a thorn in the side of every opposion, while Amy Cram’s ability to create turnover ball was crical in the final wash up. Sanderson and verbena were namedbestfortheSaints.

CASTERTON SANDFORD V NORTH GAMBIER

It was always going to a tough day at the office for Casterton Sandford and North Gambier wasted no me stamping their authority on the contest, coming out of the blocks firing with an 18-4 opening quarter thatsetthetoneforthe56goalvictory

North shooter Grace Pos was always going to present issues for the Cats and so it proved –the former Demon neng 62 from 68, including a perfect 17 from 17 in the third quarter.

Pos can thank classy mid courter Brianna Walters for consistently supplying easy ball to the tall shooter Walters dominated the aacking wing for the first three quarters as she drove strongly and delivered every ball intotheshoongcirclewithprecision.

Walters’ influence connued in the last as shemovedtothecentrerole.

Once again, it was an issue of supply for the Cats as the Tigers denied me and space through the mid court and the aacking third as Mel Renko, Lauran Norman, Noni McConnell and Stella Mobbs worked in tandem to limit the Cats to 36 scoring opportuniesfortheenreclash.

Given the pressure to actually earn a shot in range, the young shoong combinaon of Ivy Lane and Chloe Foster converted with impressive accuracy, with athlec defender Caeleigh Humphries even having a run in goal aack in the final quarter, neng five fromseveninapromisingmove.

Casterton Sandford moved the magnets in the third and fourth quarters to try and top therunawayTigersbutNorthisawelldrilled combinaon and even the changes they made in the final quarter did not slow the scoring.

Mobbs moved into goals, Macey Griffith to the aacking wing and Norman to goal keeper as the Tigers tested alternave combinaonsaheadofthefinalroundofthe 2023season.

Madalene Cleary was again the Cats best, having a role in centre and goal defence, while Chelsey Galping had an impact in her first oung on the aacking wing , before movingtocentreforthefinalquarter

ROUNDPREVIEWS

SOUTHGAMBIERVNORTHGAMBIER

The Demons would have rated their chances in round 10 against East Gambier but a last quarter fade out cost them victory and the task only gets tougher when they host North Gambierthisweekend.

Stopping the scoring power of former team mate Grace Pos looms large, while working their way through the defensive pressure applied by Mel Renko, Lauran Norman, Noni McConnell and Mikaila Pi will also provide itschallenges.

The Pos dilemma starts with mid court pressure so Ellie Bouchier will need to be at her best in denying Macey Griffith too much ball as the young goal aack is an accurate feeder, while controlling Brianna Walters, a task that might fall to Ruby Richter in the absence of Tully McShane, will also be front ofmind.

Alyssa Duncan will again be crical for South withherleadershipintheaackingthirdand her work rate even further up the court to help transion for, defence to offence, and her ability to shake off McConnell’s ght checking will be key in seng up her young shoong partner Gracie Dalton in good shoongposion.

The Tigers just look too experienced and too well drilled to allow the Demons to conjure an upset but the young Demons will be looking to stay in touch and not let the scoreboardblowout.

WESTGAMBIERVCASTERTONSANDFORD

The reigning premiers remain undefeated and will do so this weekend when they host

CastertonSandford.

The Cats have been hit hard by injury and player unavailability all season and have had toputavarietyofcombinaonsoutoncourt tocoverthoselosses.

TheconsistencyofMadaleneClearyhasseen her lead the way in every area of the court across the first 10 rounds and Caeleigh Humphries has also been consistent when available and is the backbone of the defensive end, even having a run in goals in round10.

But it is a tough ask for an unseled line-up to take on the premiership line-up that have proven to be too slick for every opponent, coming from behind last round to secure a nailbingonegoalwinoverMillicent.

Sarah Rier seems unstoppable and her connecon with Lisa McGregor ensures the scoreboard is always cking over for the Roos.

At the other end, the pressure applied by Jade Rier, Amy Cram and Zoe Malseed will test the young Cats frontline that has such talent as Chelsey Galpin, Ivy Lane, Chloe FosterandMadelinePaon.

EASTGAMBIERVMILLICENT

East Gambier outlasted a tenacious South Gambier in round 10 and will be looking to step up again when the Bulldogs host

Millicentthisweekend.

The Saints will be looking to bounce back from a disappoinng defeat at the hands of West Gambier, aer leading for the first threequarters.

East defender Morgan Amy thrives on the challengeoftakingonthetallshootersinthe compeon and she will be seng herself for her bale with Saints shooter Tabatha Sanderson.

Sanderson is well fed by Demi Verbena, who will also be damaging with her long range shoong, as well as Daisy Tunkin and Lillie Paul and Amy will be looking for her defensive partner Bo Creek to make life tough for Verbena, with Chloe Perryman pung her defensive prowess to work as welltopressuretheMillicentfeeders.

The East shoong circle of Renee Henke and Casey Horrigan looms as a different challenge for Millicent defenders Pora McRae and Lauren VanEeden – it is a small moving circle and the young Saints defenders will be looking to take advantage of their superior height and reach to dominatetheair.

They will certainly have an advantage in the rebounding duels so accuracy will be key for theBulldogsshoongduo.

Geng the ball will also prove challenging with Millicent priding itself on full court pressure, led by Lisa Duldig on the defensive wingwithPaulalsohavingastrongdefensive mindset.

Millicent should secure the victory comfortably as they look to start building towardsthe2023finalsseries.

It was a slow start against Casterton as the conditions were slippery, posing challenges for the girls to settle into our usual playing rhythm However, in the second quarter, the girls adapted to the conditions Despite the wet ball, they passed accurately into space and had strong hands to pull the ball in. The girls displayed great transitions from defence to attack, with Lily providing beautiful feeds to the goalies, who successfully capitalised and converted on the scoreboard. Zoe demonstrated fantastic versatility in the mid-court, with excellent driving, passing and defence. As a result, thegirlshadanimpressivewin,62-7. Awards:LilyBrook&ZoeDavison

The girls again had a strong win. We were able to make some changes with Kelsie moving into goals again, and Mischa into goal keeper Both girls made the switch look seamless and shows the versatility of our team. A very slow start to the game but the second half saw us adapt to the slippery conditions and gain control and momentum, taking out the win 38-22. Our defenders got their hands to a number of balls and gave us plenty of opportunities through defensive rebounds Casterton were physical and applied great defensive pressure however we didn’t force it and successfully worked our way down court, capitalising from patient feeds into the circle by Keeley Quinn and Kahlia Egan. We started with Stella Mobs in the GK position, and our defensive end got some touches early. With a 19 goal first quarter, it was nice to have Grace back as a target for us in the forward line. We were not really challenged in the scoreboard; however our aim was to keep our structures and get on to the circle to feed and keep strong drives coming out if defence With sone harder games approaching, we are building on confidence and focussing on settled netball.

Wasn’tourbestgamebutmanaged to pull it together in the end. Our control and patience in the last quarter along with strong finish in goals by the girls kept us strong. Brooke was great through the centre in the second half and worked well with Tarsh feeding our goalies. Defence was fantastic, but with plenty of opportunities we needtocapitaliseonalotmore.

U11s-18to10

Another cold wet morning for the girls! Keepingtoashortpassinggametotryand maintainpossessioninslipperyconditions it was an evenly matched contest for the first half! Some great defensive pressure saw us getting some great intercepts in defence and our ability to find space improved as the match progressed. We found the net more frequently late in the game to secure another win! Best players were Bridie Douglas (Subway) and Kirra Madden(Baker’sDelight).

U13As-50to15

Another day with wet conditions for the girls Amarlie and Indi worked well together all day with their movement in the circle Scarlett and Lucy provided options down the court and there feeding was efficient Olive, Lola, and Audrey worked tirelessly all day to create turnovers for the team. Awesome game by the girls! Thanks to Sophie Walker and Brydie Madden for sitting bench. Best players were Lola Ferguson and Olive Thorne.

U13Bs-14to27

Another cold wet day for the girls. they were all able to go their hardest for the ball. Everyone was coming in front and clearing out to create space for the next drive. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the winbutwasgoodtoseeeveryonetrytheir hardest.BestplayerswereBrydieMadden andAudreyGalambos.

Once again, we took to the courts in wet conditions! We started slowly as we warmed up and adjusted to the conditions, oncewesloweddownourplay in attack, we were able to score well and take a 4-goal lead We adjusted our defensive structure and Bell took some great intercepts in the midcourt to give us more opportunities We swung the changes, and it was great to have Eva, Tahnee and Jeda all play with us. Let’s keep building in the third round. Best playerswereKalani&Bell.

U15Bs-31to18

The girls wet weather netball skills are certainly being tested this season so far! Great defensive game where we took many intercepts from reading the oncoming play and contesting Asha Gybers’defensivepressureatcentrewasa standout, with Jeda Hibberd & Lexi Nicholls also creating many turnovers with their goal circle pressure. Tahnee Grosser and Emily Walker were able to find each other in the goal circle making good use of their speed. Ella Matthews and Lainie Rainsford had great hands over ball pressure. Best players were Jeda & Ella.

U17s-52to28

The girls started off very slowly with West staying close for the first half As the weather started to clear up, we were able to run through to get more intercepts and convert these turnovers on the scoreboard. Lauren worked tirelessly all game to turnover ball for our goalies to score. Mylee come on in the second half and held her own against the older girls in goals, feeding well to Keelie. We just need to keep working hard at training to tidy

some things up before finals come around Best players were Lauren and Mylee.

CGrade-31to38

We went into this game with a positive attitude and fought hard the whole game. Was an awesome team game by us in the wetconditions, withBekMillowickhaving an unreal game in the goal circle Unfortunately, we couldn’t get there and bring home a win this time, but we challenged them. Well done C grade girls. Best players were Lisa Goodfellow and HaileyMcGrath.

Great 14 goal win in the wet slippery conditions. Huge thanks to Maya Tarrant and Kalani Dunn for filling in today and stepping up! Keep working hard girls proud of our efforts and consistency Best players were MichelleFlemingandVeronikaDuncan.

AReserve-51to60

We started without 4 of our regular players due to injuries and this allowed more juniors opportunities to play senior netball. Piper started in centre and used her speed well even though the conditions were slippery We struggled to get a flow with some tight defensive pressure from West We swung the changes at the break after being 9 down and Emily and Keish tried hard against the height of the West attack. We pulled the margin back to 4 at the main break. Abby & Rylee combined well in the third to set up some nice attacking plays and we stayed in touch at the three-quarter time break. Jackie and Alice continued to apply pressurethroughoutthemidcourt, butwe couldn’t peg back the margin and recorded our first loss for the season. We look forward to getting our full side back after the break and finishing off the third round strongly Best Players were Jackie & Abby

AGrade-59to60

Although we narrowly missed out on victory, our performance in challenging wet conditions showcased some exceptional netball Tab and Demi displayed 100% accuracy in shooting during the opening term, scoring 19 consecutives. Lillie and Daisy used their speed well to support with their effective use of the circle edge. Our team's full court pressure was relentless and contests in the circle from Kimmi and Portia resulted in turnovers. Lillie and Lisa tirelessly worked to restrict any easy passes Although the contest became moreintenseinthesecondterm, westuck to our game. We maintained a two-goal lead at half time. In the third quarter, Lauren joined forces with Portia in the defensive circle, making an immediate impact with intercepts that were converted by Demi and Tab. The entire team-maintained intensity throughout the third quarter, capitalizing on turnovers, strongattacksbyLillie,Lisaand Daisy through mid-court and ultimately winning the term 17 to 14. The final term turned into a tightly contested and hardfought battle, but unfortunately, luck was notonourside.

Round 10 we hosted Millicent at Malseed Park. Quoting our dearest leader Kate last week “it does look like the weather gods may play nice with just a slight chance of a few drops and a bit of breeze” clearly we can’t rely on Kate’s weather predictions as it was a wet one! The A grade game was a cracker with the girls remaining undefeated with a 1 goal win Congrats also to Rach Wilson on her achievement on 300 games. Last week saw us take on Millicent. We started off with the consistency that we had the week before The defensive end worked hard, applying pressure the tall Millicent goalies to create some good intercepts. Our attacking end worked to have possession and they had some goodpassagesofplaythroughoutthegame. The 2nd half saw us looking a bit flat and with us unable to gain the rebounds Millicent capitalised and in the end they ran away with a 14goalwin.

A great win for the girls against the Millicent saints winning 38-31 Putting in everything learnt at trainings the girls really improved this week taking the time to slow in down and play our own game. Very strong pressure from our defenders fighting hard for the ball and bringing it down to our mid courters who were able to feed the ball to our endlessly working goalies, moving around the ring to create the opportunities for goals. The team celebrated well back at the club on the mechanical bull at ourWildWildWestiesevent!

We began this game with fantastic team work once again. All over the court we were working together so well matching the very strong Millicent at every centre pass. Our defence girls inMacy,Ellie,TullyandHalleputthepressureon the Millicent attack team right from the first whistle. Macy and Ellie taking some very timely interceptions and bringing the ball down to our

end of the court. Our very under the weather Centre Charlotte showed her resilience giving her all along with Alex, playing another consistent game at the WA position, feeding the ball into Imogen and Aleisha and after half time, Lucy

Athalftimewewereonly3downgivingussome needed confidence, but it wasn’t to be. Defence worked tirelessly all game, picking up a number of turnovers and our centre courters ran hard all game, providing a great link between defence and attack! Our goalies presented strongly, showing great accuracy with ball in hand! Some brilliant passages of play across the game, the challenge for us is now minimising the small mistakes, especially against quality opposition!
