NEW RELEASES Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines The Lost without you singer is back. This time‌ with a playful and annoyingly catchy summer song featuring T.I and the Get Lucky vocalist, Pharrell. It’s called Blurred Lines. The laidback pop song is definitely bound for chart success and I look forward to the prospect of the new album!

Artist Spotlight This issue's artist spotlight is on Disclosure, following the release of their debut album Settle. The duo, consisting of brothers, Guy and Howard have dominated the music charts since the release of Latch and the even more popular single, White Noise featuring the vocals of AlunaGeorge which peaked at number 2 on the UK charts.

Article by Chloe Bennett

The 19 and 22 year olds weren't always interested in the electronic music that they seem to effortlessly produce, using sounds from a range of genres such as 90's hip hop and deep house music; they recently revealed how Howard only used to listen to singer-songwriters and disliked any electronic songs. As for Guy, well, he was a drummer in a band!

Fast forward a few years, and the pair were then using their A level music skills to develop their edgy underground songs, which would soon see them being shot to fame. This year, their debut album Settle features vocal collaborations from the likes of, Jessie Ware and Eliza Doolittle and also includes songs ranging from pop classics to that amazing garage vibe. If the success of the singles are anything to go by, I'm sure the album will be just as successful!

The Wanted have got to be the best boy band haven’t they!? I don’t care if that’s biased; I’ve been a fan right from the start of their adventures! Right now you are probably wondering why I am telling you all this, well I will tell you, I am telling you this because being a fan of The Wanted myself I follow their every move and they have been through a hard journey to get to the top and I know they will be there for a very long time! The Wanted are British-Irish boy band that were formed in 2009. From the thousands that auditioned Siva, Tom, Max, Jay and Nathan were chosen to be the next big boy band. The Wanted started a school tour in early 2010 and released their first album later the same year. The debut album “The Wanted” had 3 top 20 singles in the UK, with the debut single “All Time Low” hitting the top spot in the official UK charts. Unfortunately the band just missed out on the top spot with their single “Heart Vacancy”. Maybe the vacancy wasn’t for them! Did you know that the song was originally written for Leona Lewis!? Just over a year later The Wanted released their second album, “Battleground” which reached number 5 in the UK album charts. The boys grabbed hold of a second number one with “Glad You Came” which stayed at the top spot for 2 weeks. “Gold Forever” was the official Comic Relief charity single for 2011 and it was a huge success, reaching its peak of number 3 in the UK chart and raised over 4 million pounds. Early last year the lads wanted to become a huge hit in America after performing their performance of “Glad You Came” on the Ellen show. They hit number 3 on the US charts selling over 3 million copies. The Wanted also won The People’s Choice Award for ‘Favourite Breakout Artists’, early this year. Wow!

They certainly have been through such a journey to get to where they are today!

Finally, it’s here! Last issue, I chatted about the PS4 controller being announced but this… The Xbox One is here! It’s got lots of new features! For example, the system now has a Blu-ray drive to keep up with Sony and also features a new and improved Kinect system that can be used to turn the system on and switch to different screens instantly! You can even plug a set top box directly into the Xbox and view and control your TV from there… They’ll be ruling the world next! The console looks to be even smaller than the current one and they’ve redesigned the controller, keeping close to their iconic look and feel, but taking away the old middle dashboard button. There are ‘some’ negatives though… Chill, only some! There’s rumours’ flying about that the Xbox will require an internet connection once every 24 hours to work and may not allow pre-owned games to be resold. The new console will go on sale in November this year, with an RRP of £429.

“My Thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations.” The Fault in Our stars, a New York Times bestseller, written by our favourite writer, John Green. There are so many commentaries already out there by much-more intelligent writers, on this book, but seeing as John Green is my favourite author, I thought... “Why not write my own commentary on it?” It’s not a cancer book. I want to say that straight away. However, it’s most certainly a book about people that happen to have cancer. It’s so much more than insightful, bold and raw. This book is devastating. It’s tearful, powerful, heart wrenching and better yet, humorous!

Admittedly, I did shed a few tears but I laughed so much until I couldn’t even breathe! If you’ve read this book you’ll know Augustus, well, he’s the one who takes me by surprise with his sarcasm. This book, I must say, had such a big impact on me; because of what it’s about. Being alive and being in love. That’s what it’s about. If you’ve not read this book, buy it. It’s such a great book and I highly recommend it. Whilst you’re buying ‘The Fault in our Stars’, why not take a quick look at John’s other books: ‘Looking for Alaska’, ‘An Abundance of Katherine’s’ and lots more! John Green, this is a real article. I didn’t make it up.

We sent Grace to the BIGGEST gig of this year! But we’ll not ramble on; we’ll let Grace tell you all about it:

Hi! Want to hear about my trip to the SUMMERTIME BALL, courtesy of Xplode?!?! I thought you might! Starting with my favourite act; little Nathan from The Wanted has been recovering from throat surgery and I was gutted to see that he hadn't recovered in time for STB. The rest of the lads sang until reaching Nathan's infamous solo-piece in, 'I Found You' when the track cut… The boys stood still and out popped Nathan and oh the EMOTIONS! If you haven’t seen it yet, you NEED TO CHECK IT OUT! Bravo Capital! Top opening act. The answer is yes! Justin Timberlake is indeed hotter in real life! He was an awesome host and did the cutest British accent and much to the appreciation of 80,000 people, we got a mini acoustic session! Genuinely the most beautiful thing I have ever, ever heard.

I'm proud to announce that no trousers were harmed in Olly Murs' first ever performance at STB! Which may I add… was fabulous! Olly brought that cheeky Essex atmosphere to the stage; you should have seen the smiles across Wembley! Lawson were epic… Will.I.Am had dancing robots… and 80,000 people danced to Gangnam Style. That must be some sort of record breaker! The lovely Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and The Saturdays all stormed the stage with girl power and absolutely rocked it. Not to mention Taylor Swift who blew me away and brought out another fave of mine, Ed Sheeran! Massive thank you to Xplode - I think it’s safe to say that its one of the best days in my life and I am already saving for next year and you most definitely should be too!

There are around 6,800 languages being spoken in the world today. After studying just one, Spanish, for 4 years, my teacher has shown me just how beautiful it is and how much importance it has. It is spoken by 329 million people and has at least 3 million native speakers in 44 different countries. When I first began to learn Spanish, I was very shy and didn't really like to speak aloud, but now I feel so much more confident whilst speaking and always want to learn even more. Even though most of that is down to my teacher always pushing me to do more, and telling me to be more confident, it’s also because I am very motivated to succeed at it. At the very start of my GCSE course, I wasn't sure that learning a completely different language was for me. I remember my parents and teachers would always tell me that it looks very good to have a GCSE in a modern foreign language, and I didn't take them on, and thought it was just a parent thing. We've all done it or thought it - “Just shut up mum, you don’t get what it’s like to be young "... We’re all gui\lty of it. Thinking they don't know best, but in fact, our parents can have a huge influence on the

choices we make - a positive influence too. I am now so glad I carried on the language even though I struggled with it. I always enjoy learning the subject and realise how important it actually is and the doors it can open for you in the future. For example, you have a higher chance of getting into one of the top universities if you have a GCSE in a language and if you are contemplating learning any language, why not choose one of the most beautiful, elegant, languages and learn Spanish? With summer coming up, learning Spanish would definitely be something for you to take up - especially if you are going on a holiday to any Spanish speaking country! I know that many people think that learning a foreign language would be difficult, and that they couldn't do it, but most people say that Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn. So why not try it? As well as being able to speak another language, you'll discover a skill you didn't know you had. El idioma español es hermoso!

where are they now? Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born on the 15th April 1990, shot to stardom at the mere age of 9 when she was cast as the ‘insufferable know-it-all’; Hermione Jean Granger in the Harry Potter Series. Emma played Hermione for a whole 12 years. She was keen for people to see her as an actress instead of just ‘Hermione’ so in 2007, Emma had landed herself in the TV film; Ballet Shoes (BBC) which aired on Boxing Day 2007. It was the By 2009, Emma had lent her voice to the character Princess Pea in The Tale of Desperaux and was fast becoming style icon after also becoming the face of the Autumn/Winter ‘09 Burberry campaign.

From then onwards things could only get better. After finishing the Harry Potter series and with the last film (2011) becoming the 4th highest grossing film of all time, Emma went on to star in My Week with Marilyn and in the critically acclaimed; Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012).

Now it’s 2013… What’s next!? This year has been a great year for her and will continue to be; early this year she won the MTV Trailblaser Award which is given to those young people with phenomenal talent and the ability to inspire people across the world with their work. Later this year, Emma’s latest films will also be hitting the Big Screen; The Bling Ring and This is the End. The Bling Ring covers the real life story of a group of LA teenagers who become thieves of the rich and famous. The film, in which Emma plays teenager Nikki, was recently shown at Cannes and has been praised by many and already looks to be a huge success. Since 1999 when she was cast as Hermione Granger, Emma has matured and is now a global star, fashion icon and a general role model for so many people across the world, including me! I think we’ll be seeing a lot more from Emma for very many years to come! The Bling Ring Hits cinemas 5th July 2013

I’m still wondering how my first day at college went. At first I was really nervous but then again, anyone would be. I mean, going to a whole new area and seeing so many new faces, it’s almost terrifying. I can still visualise the first day I got onto the bus with my friends and they were all excited about it and I could feel a sense of trembling fear going through me. And then you start wondering, ‘How am I going to start a new adventure at a place where I don’t know anyone?’ Two words… Horrifying feeling! Yes, it was terrifying, but once you start, it’s a complete different sentiment. So many different people of different backgrounds start socialising with you and engage in conversation, and then as if by magic, they start chilling with you and you have a whole new group of friends. Also, in lessons when you need help or when you’re stuck on something, someone will come over and help you understand. It’s amazing and you can be everyone’s friend! Not as bad as it seems, eh? It gets much better than this. I bet you can still remember when you kept saying ‘Sir’ or ‘Miss’. In college, you call teachers by their first name which is for some reason is funny at times as people forget so out the blue you hear a student say, ‘Sir come over here a sec’ and then everyone starts looking at you’! Ah well, that used to be me ;)!

All in all, don’t be scared about your first day and do not panic. You may find it a bit nerve wrecking but don’t let this take over you. Just remember to be nice and polite and you’ll be smiling throughout the college years without even knowing it. Sorted.

The Doctor Who 50th anniversary is soon approaching! That’s right, we’ve had 50 years of brilliant sci-fi adventures and 23rd November 2013 will bring the biggest yet! To celebrate the countdown, I bring you my 5 favourite moments of Doctor Who since its successful resurrection in 2005. Bad Wolf - The story of Bad Wolf lasted throughout the 1st series, with the confusing words being written in different locations of where the Doctor (Christopher Eccelston- 9th Doctor) and his accomplice, Rose, went. What was it? Was it a warning of something evil to come? No it wasn’t. In fact it was quite the opposite of that, as we saw Rose look into the time vortex and ‘wolf up’ destroying all the Daleks and saving the Doctor. Vampires! - The Doctor (Matt Smith- 11th Doctor) takes Amy and Rory to Venice as ‘a wedding present,’ but as always, things don’t go to plan. Evil vampire-like aliens biting innocent people and draining their blood sounds like a horror from the medieval ages, but the writer of this episode creates a story which brings to light a whole new type of vampires.

Article written by Mithun Kerai

The Master Returns - The Master is another Time Lord, however unlike the Doctor (David Tennant- 10th Doctor) he has plans to gain as much power as he can. Unbelievably he succeeds by becoming prime minister of England, letting aliens enter Earth and start attacking the human race. The Master constantly talks about hearing ‘a sound of drums’. River’s Kiss - Just recently we have seen a nerve wrecking episode where the Doctor (Matt Smith) travels to his tomb and is fighting a force greater than we can imagine. Clara Oswald is seen flying through the Doctors past as we revisit him from the day he stole the faulty TARDIS. However, for me it’s the moment when the Doctor kisses River Song that takes the moment. We finally see the passion between the two adventurers. Flying the Earth home - This has got to be my number one! Elisabeth Sladen, John Barrowman, Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman and many more companions are seen in the TARDIS at the same time as they “fly planet Earth back home.” Just to see everyone together makes this moment 19 the most exciting and fun for me.

Gran Turismo 6. . .This ain't no 'terrible teen'! There was good reason for the world's gaming press to head to Silverstone recently. Not only because it is the UK's number one racing circuit and the perfect back drop to announce the 'coming of age' of the Gran Turismo racing game, which is celebrating 15 years as the world’s favourite driving game, but it is also the perfect place to announce the launch of the latest version of the Gran Turismo game . . GT6 is coming! VIP guests, including Xplode and gamers from around the world were treated to a day celebrating the ground-breaking racing game’s history and the launch of the latest version of the game on Playstation3. Playing on the original PlayStation handsets with the 'jerky' square pixelated images of the first Gran Turismo that many gamers remember as being 'the next best thing to driving' while sat in their bedrooms compared to the new games consoles not only showed the development of the game but of the gaming industry and technology as a whole. But that wasn’t the end of the Silverstone story and to call the Gran Turismo 6 a 'driving experience' isn’t far off the mark because after being invited to step out of the gaming booths and onto a sunny Silverstone racetrack it was brought home to us just how far the 'blurring of the lines' between the virtual and real driving worlds had become as we were greeted by the 5 winning drivers of the Nissan GT Academy. Silverstone’s grand finale of the day was revealed as the makers announced the F1 racing circuit is now included in the new Gran Turismo 6 game, along with new racing cars and racing circuits and a host of new features with full customisation packages and the option to even build your own race car! The GT6 will feature new online gaming giving players access to upgrades and a global community of racers letting you set up new racing series and online events.

The new Gran Turismo 6 will be available on Playstation3 in December.
