Graduate of Architecture | Interior Designer

XimenaPorta . 2024

With a background in Architecture and Interior Design, I approach every project with a deep curiosity for materials and detail. My design process begins with a thorough site analysis, where I consider the site analysis, environment and surroundings, clients’ requirements, sustainability approach, and functionality. This holistic approach ensures that the final design integrates these elements while reflecting on the past, present, and future.

I am particularly passionate about the interaction between the interior and the exterior spaces. In architecture, we create structures that serve as protective barriers from the climate and exposure, but these should not isolate us from our surroundings. Instead, they should invite the outdoors in, fostering a seamless connection.

To achieve this, I emphasize working with natural materials that resonate with our environment, creating a sense of belonging and an identity within our space.

With a background in both Architecture and Interior Design, I excel in meticulous attention to detail, innovative material selection, and prioritizing functionality. I thrive in collaborative settings, enjoying teamwork while also fostering strong client and supplier relationships. My overarching ambition is to become a distinguished expert in my field, creating projects that seamlessly integrate Architecture and Interiors.

Located in 145 Stirling HWY, Nedlands, Perth, WA. Restaurant renovation.

DESIGN STATEMENT

Classic Chelsea Pizza Restaurant, a beloved establishment since 1972, is proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary today. To commemorate this significant mile stone, the owners have decided to undertake a major interior renovation.

Recognizing the diverse needs of their clientele—including large groups, fam ilies of 4 to 6, and couples—the new furniture layout has been thoughtfully de signed to cater to all. Large group tables have been incorporated for birthdays and celebrations, while flexible seating arrangements ensure comfort for fami lies and intimacy for couples.

The design process has been centered around this variety of customer needs, with careful consideration given to creating a layout that balances functionality with aesthetic appeal.

ACCESIBILITY FROM CLOSEST TOWN.

When taking into consideration the accesibility to the premises, as we can see on the image, there were 3 different types of circulation: 1. Main roads/highways (yellow), which connect to the biggest town that follows Veinticinco de Mayo, 2. Secundary roads (green) and 3. Tertiary Rds (blue).

The restaurant has been active since 1972 and the owners working closely to achived what they were looking for.

The renovation journey faced a notable challenge: budget constraints. Initial ly working with a modest budget, the project evolved over time, resulting in a mid-budget design. Despite the financial limitations, the owners have man aged to create a refreshed and inviting atmosphere that enhances the dining experience while preserving the restaurant’s classic charm.

PRIVATE AREA. SEMI-PRIVATE AREA. PUBLIC AREA.

The major challenge was the budget, we starting with a low budget and trough the process the restuarant ended up in a midbudget design.

ACCESS. CIRCULATION.

This transformation not only honors the restaurant’s rich history but also sets the stage for continued success in the years to come.

The lastest mentioned 3. are the roadS that connects the town with Los Reyunos area. After analysing the site we considered there was a need to create an extension of this road trough the east of the land for accesing.

Because the area is considered as a training/holiday place for the users, we find there is 3 types of circulation needed: 1. Cars, 2. Motorbike, 3. peathonal/bycicle.

FINAL STAGE.

The culmination of the design process yielded a final result that not only met but surpassed the clients’ expectations, showcasing an exceptional outcome that seamlessly integrates their vision with innovative solutions and meticulous attention to detail. The collaborative efforts between the design team and the clients have culminated in a space that not only fulfills functional requirements but also radiates aesthetic appeal and a profound sense of satisfaction.

WORKPLACE INTERIOR DESIGN.

Located at 16 Parliament Place, West Perth, WA.

During my time at Office Fit-out Professionals, I had the opportunity to collaborate with various clients to create tailored designs for their workplace needs. The project brief comprised two distinct areas: one dedicated to private meetings with clients and the other for workstations, storage, and staff breakout.

The final proposal incorporated two lobby accesses, with a primary entrance featuring a reception area and a secondary entrance for staff.

For the workstation zone:

The circulation layout was optimized for an open plan, accommodating 42 workstations of dimensions 1500x750mm (existing).

The design included 11 offices measuring 3x2.8 meters, each equipped with 1200mm glass window film for privacy.

A utility area and collaborative space with a casual lounge arrangement were incorporated.

For the clients’ zone:

A meticulously designed reception area was proposed to complement existing furniture.

A 20-person boardroom with a lounge suitable for staff meetings was included.

Six to seven meeting rooms for client consultations were designed, each equipped with a TV and tailored to accommodate existing furniture.

Two connected kitchens were planned, with one featuring a coffee nook accessible from the meeting rooms zone and the staff breakout area, providing ample space for simultaneous use by several individuals.

CROWN HOTEL LOBBY INTERVENTION.

ACCESIBILITY AND URBAN PLANING.

Located in Great Eastern Hwy, Burswood WA 6100, near the river and the great OPTUS STADIUM.

DESIGN STATEMENT

The primary goal of this intervention is to significantly enhance guest comfort with in the lobby of the Metropol in Crow Hotel by addressing and mitigating issues re lated to sunlight and heat. We envision transforming the lobby into a space that not only welcomes guests warmly but also mirrors the inviting and serene landscapes of Western Australia.

Design Approach

To achieve this vision, I propose a multi-faceted approach:

ACCESIBILITY FROM CLOSEST TOWN.

Local Color Palette: Incorporating a color palette inspired by the natural hues of Western Australia will create a harmonious and relaxing atmosphere. Shades drawn from the local environment—such as soft earth tones, warm sands, and rich greens— will be used for furniture and fittings. This palette will not only complement the ho tel’s aesthetic but also foster a sense of connection to the surrounding region.

Sunlight and Heat Mitigation: To address sunlight and heat issues, we will integrate architectural elements and materials that control light and temperature.

The lastest mentioned 3. are the roadS that connects the town with Los Reyunos area. After analysing the site we considered there was a need to create an extension of this road trough the east of the land for accesing.

Functional Zones: The lobby will be organized into distinct zones to support various activities, such as a relaxing lounge area, informal meeting spots, and a space for light refreshments. This layout will ensure the space is versatile and meets the diverse needs of guests.

Because the area is considered as a training/holiday place for the users, we find there is 3 types of circulation needed: 1. Cars, 2. Motorbike, 3. peathonal/bycicle.
