SPACES THROUGH STORYTELLING

“NEGLECTED TRADITIONAL DESSERTS”

With the rapid advancement of society, an increasing number of novel food items are making their way into our daily lives. For instance, while there used to be only one or two traditional sugar water vendors on Petaling Street, now there are multiple milk tea and ice cream brands. The emergence of these new desserts has gradually supplanted the traditional sugar water in people's preferences.

“NEGLECTED TRADITIONAL DESSERTS”

In the whole phase1, I used the way of comparing the past and the present to describe, expressing the difference between the ways and types of petaling street desserts sold 50 or 60 years ago and the present, and also reflecting the gradual replacement of traditional desserts by new desserts on the other hand.

REFLECTION

Through Phase 1, my greatest takeaway was learning to observe the things around me. Initially, my understanding of Petaling Street was limited to it being a street with a large Chinese community, but I hadn’t noticed the many elements that have been forgotten with the passage of time. I learned to observe and also to approach tasks with genuine dedication. In the process, I gradually realized that good design doesn't come out of thin air; it requires starting from the details and capturing those overlooked yet meaningful elements. This enhanced observational ability has allowed me to better integrate these elements into my designs.

REFLECTION

In Phase 2, I was in the document team, mainly responsible for the video editing work in all work. At the beginning, I thought that the challenge of this work would not be very big, but on the contrary, I encountered many problems during this work, such as finding missing shots in the editing process, and then I had to make up for the shooting the next day, and so on. From the idea of the video to the communication with the team members, I have gained a lot of experience. Although I encountered some small problems in the process of phase2, they were all solved perfectly. Meanwhile, I also learned a lot, the most important thing is how to communicate in the team, so that the whole team can work more efficiently, and cooperate with different groups. phase2 is a joyful and unforgettable experience.

PHASE 3

GLIMPSES OF KITH

“In this phase, I continued the theme of phase1 and built the space "sweet haven", which is a comprehensive experience space selling desserts and traditional dessert making, where you can not only taste traditional dessert, but also make your own dessert to experience the forgotten traditions.”

SWEET HAVEN

“I chose red Bean Ice and cendol as the main dessert of sweet haven, so the color of the whole space is red and green. Coupled with the cooperation of wood, the space not only feels like a traditional shop, but also creates a sober and pleasant experience.”

REFLECTION

With the end of phase3, all the work of this semester has been completed. The biggest feeling for me in this semester is that only with enough efforts can a work be well completed. In the last month, I focused on my phase3 almost every day, because it is not only an assignment, but also my painstaking effort. If it is only a simple design, it cannot be completed. I changed countless versions of the design until I got the most satisfactory version. What I learned this semester laid the foundation for the next semester. Through this experience, I not only improved my technical skills, but also learned how to maintain focus and perseverance in the face of challenges.
