The projects were chosen to highlight the diverse scale and approaches emcompassed in my digital technique education.

Exploration of geometric logic, analysis, physical model, rendering, color, and articulation have all been mainly considered.

001 GEOMETRIC LOGIC Besides the recognition of diagrams

by Stan Allen in his article “Diagrams Matter �, the way of analyzing c ro iss an t fu rt he r exp la in s th e necessity of diagraming in terms of understanding the world around people. While Gothic geometry follows clear logic, a detailed 2D geometric investigtion of a Gothic window from the 13th-14th century is guided by more complex processes that connect di erent geometric orders through a complex set of rela onships.

002 VARIATION AND MUTATION Nowadays computing techniques bring more potential and more indepth present of their works. The transformation from hand drawing allows people to use various ways to express their idea more clearly, comprehensively and quickly by using digital programs. Working by characterizing geometries with c o n t i n u o u s c u r va t u re i n s p a c e without reducing coordinates allows points acts as weights, tugging on smooth curves and surfaces to produce form that operates in three dimensions. The goal is to establish modeling frameworks that regulate Calculus-based modeling with as much rigor and intention as coordinates and fixed distances in Euclidean systems.

Focusing on systematic, iterative transformations of the elements of the column object modeled from page 10-13. Here, we will care more about variation, versus variety. The goal would be to manipulate specific variables of the underlying logic of the object’s geometry - namely profile curves in plan and sec on- in order to produce versions and mutations that become something new and different but is still guided by the same geometric DNA, exploring producing analytical and systematic of the producing process.

003 Fabrication The idea of how digital methods narrow the gap between c o m p u t e r m o d e l s a n d re a l - l i f e s c a l e co n st r u c t i o n s . A s to t h i s phenomenon, the unplanned outcomes can help create more possibilities for designs. Because of this digital era, architecture is no longer bricks stacking together, but how materials forming together in different methods and techniques in human scale. Making choices about how to physically model the designs in architecture - the scale of the model, the material, the fabrication method, etc. Each of these decisions is a design choice, and will communicate difFerent things about the object, building, or design that you are modeling. 004 3D FIELD Considering the “Field Conditions” mentioned by Stan allen as creating a design situation by involving the correlation between elements, one result could be really flexible but also related. Stan Allen considers a field condition as “any formal or spa al matrix capable of unifying diverse elements while respecting the identity of each.” The diverse e l e m e n t s o f t h e ex p l o ra t i o n o f 3D field will be architectural roof typologies that will be re-formed and deformed (and eventually unpack).

Following this process and idea, the resulting roof fields are following the same internal logic and sequence but with different identities.

Stan Allen brings out the idea that the variation of diverse elements can be represent while concerning the united identity. Therefore, once the primary elements and rules and defined, for example the primary principles and strictly settled columns, the outcomes can come from the unexpected possibilities, carrying out the clear relation and concept but diverse possibilities and outcomes following the primary idea from “Field Conditions�, setting up the basic elements, relying on the specific types of processes, leaving the possibilities to create unexpected surprises, making everybody’s work different and unique for their specific logic but still requiring the same technique and strategies.

The last exercise will focus on the product on of a rendered image of the 3D field. Renderings, just like drawings, can take on many graphic modes or styles. They can be abstract, focusing only on light, color, or pattern, or can be developed into a much more complex scene with people, colors, textures, and weather. They can be designed to read as at, or they can be deeply three-dimensional.
