WEEK 3 READING: KRAUSS, ROSALIND, 1972.: LEGER, LE CORBUSIER, AND PURISM. ARTFORUM. Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) It is the place that can’t be circulated through or accessed, an irremediably space seen from a distance, eternally resigned to frontality.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) The 2 properties are:1,the objects regestered as pure extension, as flat. 2, crisply contoured shape which never breaks rank with the picture’s frontality to suggest the turning of one of its facets into depth. Le Corbusier refused to use black and added white lead to his pigments.

MARIO’S WORLD

1ST MARIO’S WORLD

My First Hand Drawing

This is the first hand drawing of my mario world, it is just a draft drawn by HB pencil. I only added a little things which didn’t appeared in the original pictures. I also discarted most of the clouds from the original pictures, because I think they will cover the main body, and obstruct me from presenting the detailed thimgs. I also swapped the vine into a flower, as it is easier to handle. I also would like to put a little pond in the middle of the main body, but finally I cancelled the idea.

4

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD

Instead of the pond, I made the land of the ampty space in the middle of the main body to become a floating island. Added the tubes with water flowing out to connect the main body and the island. I also added two pairs of portal gates to enhance the relationshape between the main body and the island. I also added some holes and roadblocks to make the road looknot so dull. Also, I added some spindrifts to fill the gap between the mountains.

WEEK 4 READING: ALLEN, STAN, 2000.: AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION: NEW GEOMETRIES AND OLD ORIGINS FROM PRACTICE: ARCHITECTURE, TECHNIQUE AND REPRESENTATION. PSYCHOLOGY PRESS. Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words)

The difference is rojection has a vanishing point. Perspective records what already exists, while axonometrics projection shows what does not exist.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words)

It was first rose in military context. It was originally used to chart the 3D trajectories of artillery projectiles.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

In this stage, all the things in the original pictures are presented, more holes and roadbloks are added. The facial expressions of the clouds are added by the pen tool. To make some changes, I used the effect of transparency, and changed some of their facial expression. Also, the colors of portal gates are different, so that it can show us which gates are in one pair. To make the little island look more interesting, I added the missle, behind the flowing water, and some flying bullets.

FINAL MARIO’S WORLD The coloring scheme of this Mario’s world is halloween, so I added the background of the sky at sunrise. The sun hasn’t appear, and the stars are still here.

APPENDIX

I used T-square, 45degree set square, pencil with HB refill, 0.1 fineline and black reaser. I used this set square because the angle is right 45degree, much easier than using protractor. The first hand drawing is on the A3 tracing paper, when I was drawing the second hand drawing, I used the A2 tracing paper. Since there was not enough space for the floating island.

This is the way I drew this mario’s world. Initially, I put the pictures in this positions, but drew the images to the opposite places. This really made my mario’s world totally different from others!
