Inspired by the blind date conner in Shanghai, a daily scene of myself, I imagined a blind date space in the form of a game, making this unpleasant activity more fun, more efficient, and more involved for participants.
This project also involves an APP design. Through this supporting App, players can be guided and match a date in different scenes.
DATE AROUND
a conceptual space for new form blind date with a game-like experience
In the blind date corner of Shanghai People’s Square, parents often write a table edge advertisement to help their children to find a partner or to inform them of their situation and expectations for their future partners. Attach on the open umbrell a , for people to stop and browse. This tradition has been lasting for decades.
However, when I noticed that there are few young people in blind dates, I began to think about whether the blind date mode is n ot accepted by young people today. We need to create a new blind date model to exactly satisfy modern blind dates
Site analysis
Interview of four unmarried people
We interviewed four unmarried people. Their views on blind dates made us reflect on what are the problems with the current blind date model? Why do young people who really need blind dates refuse to participate in blind dates? How people feel about BLIND DATE ?

CONCEPT
Design element
Inspired by the umbrellas pasted with advertisements, the geometric elements of hexagons are evolved.
The space is created through combination, dislocation, and stacking of hexagons. The interlaced blocks make the space more flexible.
Space form
The spatial form imitates the form of the video game, and the design inspiration is to pass through the barriers.,eventually win a partener sucessfully.
The blind date process itself has many things in common with video games. For example, they all need to go through many challenges, and they need careful arrangements and a focused attitude to get a successful blind date experience. Once they fail, plays must start over again.

Conceptual draft
This sketch piece was created in the project. I tried to refer to the game’s entry mode to create a flexible and personalized space.
Changable stairs guide players to different rooms and meet blind dates with common hobbies.
Flexible routes
The stairs play an interesting role in the space. According to the customized route, the flexible stairs will send the players directly to different floors.
Based on a retractable and revolving staircase, combined with seven different spatial functions, the space can provide players with a total of 33 activities combinations with unique blind date routes.

Draft model
Through making a draft model, how to stack and displace the space of each layer is established, and the function, height and layout of each layer are further optimized. In a total of seven floors building, eight different blind date activities have been placed, hoping that players can truly enjoy it. By completing the questionnaire, customize a personalized blind date journey.

Design brief
This project imagines a nonexistent space in people’s subconscious. According to the five stages of sleep, five spaces are divided as reflections of people's subconscious minds.
Inspired by the brain waves in each stage, the spatial forms are developed, tested and shaped with clay. All images are obtained by shooting.
When we fall asleep, where do we go?
All men whilst they are awake are in one common world; but each of them, when he is asleep, is in a world of his own. -Plutarch
Group consciousness
Dreams are just electrical impulses occur in our brain that taps into random images from our subconscious mind. Meaning, sometimes our dreams are nothing but random images, and other times, it is our subconscious mind trying to share with us something.
So when we fall asleep, our mind creates a world made up of subconscious minds. How ever, this space is not single, but is composed of different stages of sleep and different wavelengths of consciousness. I tried to image this space, shape with clay and cement, to build a group-conscious dream land, seeking the answer of-
When we fall asleep, where do we go?
Brain wave
Human sleep is usually divided into five stages, and stages are different.
In the first three stages, the amplitude of human brain the body functions and the brain are relaxing. In the brain waves fluctuate violently and accompanied by awake, the observed brainwave frequency is closest

In this part of the design, I made a series of draft models to simulate the amplitude of brain wave fluctuations in various sta ges of sleep, exploring the changes in spatial form. As the progress of design development, I recorded every test models, then selecte d five of them to represent different stages.
Through the use of clay and cement materials, the space is soft and sculptural at the same time. Fantastic light and shadow effects are reflected on the light-colored surface to show that dreams are reflections of reality.

Layout development
The design concept of the layout comes from the time sequence of each sleep stage. Through the successive relationship and duration, the cycle of sleep is used as the concept of the plan, and then transform the edge with a soft curve to create a flo wing and soft spatial language.
In the layout graphic, different spaces are linked to each other through excessive space, forming a connected cycle, and then simulating different spiritual activities in eacg spaces, creating a unique spatial experience

stage 4 - REM (Dream)
As we move into stage 2, the body goes into a state of deep relaxation. Theta waves still dominate the activity of the brai n. Lower temperature and body function reflect as a dark and moody vibe, while the skylights symbolized the awake consciousness.
REM sleep is marked by rapid movements of the eyes. The brain waves associated with this stage of sleep are very similar to those observed when a person is awake, and this is the period of sleep in which dreaming occurs.
The space complex with shadows and vague figures, lights, flashing images, since the dream reflects in this stage.
stage 5 - Short awake
In the stage 5, people are more likely to wake up or enter the next cycle. Therefore, a strong light source represents a clear consciousness. The group subconscious in the space lingers at this stage, as if waiting for the moment of waking up.

Design Concept
As an extension of Tangshan Public Cemetery, this project imagines a new form to commemorate the deceased.
By interpreting difference form of water into design elements in space, this architecture provides people with a journey to have a glimpse of the eternal life.
RIPPLE OF LIFE
A drop of water, if it could tell its own history, would explain the universe to us. -an extension of Tangshan public cemetery
Water is always connected with life. Water breeds life, and life returns to water, forming a cosmic cycle. A drop of water may contain the secret of the origin of the entire universe and life. Taking different forms of water as inspiration, reflecting the stages of life in the form of water, and finally experience a life-long jounery.
The traditional form of the cemetery is mainly ground burials, and tomb sweeping is an annual commemorate. This project explored new forms of the cemetery, transforming the commemorate of the deceased into reflections on life and getting along with family.
Data
Due to the explosion of the population and the increase of aging, the available burial land is decreasing, the demand for cemetery is increasing.
The good news is that people are more accepting of new burial forms, such as water funerals or burial mounds, which can relieve this pressure.
Water is always connected with life. Water breeds life, and life returns to water, forming a cosmic cycle. A drop of water may contain the secret of the origin of the entire universe and life.
A drop of water could be the beginning of everything, and then develop a whole world through it.Taking different forms of water as inspiration, reflecting the stages of life in the form of water, and finally experience a life-long jounery in this project.
FACADE DESIGN
DRAFT MODEL
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
In the early stage, through the exploration of various functions of the space, a draft sketch of the spatial form was carried out to further develop the spatial scale and design language
After sorted out the visiting experience, We moved to the facae design. Each option emphasizes the simple exterior shape and the echoing design language, to connect the interior and exterior spaces through the facade, and allow the building to blend into the surrounding natural environment.
All things considered, we decided to go with the sunken option with bury part of the space underground. The dynamic water-like curtain facade allows the building to interact with nature.

Through mock-up experiments, we decided 120x120 stainless steel flappers, aligned with 20mm gap is used to form the facade. At the same time, a detailed CAD was drawn through case studies.
The flappers connected to the vertical metal structure as components, making the curtain wall a modular product and we simulated the rendering of the final effect.
OVERALL DESIGN
INSPIRATION-RIPPLE OF LIFE
Inspired by the ripples generated by a drop of water, three layers of flexible spaces are arranged in a 12-meter high space, which are linked to each other by picking up voids and transitioning spaces to form a complete circle experience.
The building is connected to the entrance by an outdoor corrido r. As an extension of Tangshan Cemetery, the building is also located on the hillside, with a view of the city skylin e from the terrace and roof. The dynamic curtain wall of the façade reflects the daylight and natural landscape, producing a sparkling visual effect, and at the same time makes the building blend into the surrounding environment naturally
The building is connected to the entrance by an outdoor corridor. As an extension of Tangshan Cemetery, the public cemetery is on the west side of building and very accessible.
Three levels of flexible spaces are arranged in a 10-meter high space, which are linked to each other by picking up voids and transitioning spaces to form a complete circle experience.
In order to create a complete life voyage, I imagined a series of different forms of space with water as the main design language. The journey begins with a drop of water and ends with the fading steam, just like every individual's life goes through various stages, and finally enters the cycle of nature.
REVOLVING LANTERN
It is said that the revolving lantern is the visiom seen before death, so death is compared to new life as the beginning of the whole experience.
The floor is simulating the ripples generated by a drop of water with fine gravel, and the hanging fabric screen is rotated on the top with dynamic projection, creating a halluciating space vibe.
FLOWING THEATER
The theater has three spatial modes, corresponding to different activities. The flexible space division changes with the lifting of the intermediate curtain, providing a multi-functional public space for different occasions. The leaves on the top fluctuate with the sound of the water in the background, as if they are at an upsidedown underwater bottom, and the projection of the wall makes the space more calm and peaceful.

As the atrium crosses two levels, this space is designed as an underwater commemorating chapel.
The wall is composed of 300x400 size of drawers, with the souvenir of the deceased inside, as a place for people to pay respect and commemorate. The wall with voids introduces the scenery into the room, and the skylight at the top reflects the shadow of water into the funnel, creating a hazy light and a solemn space vibe.
DEEP CHAPEL
THROUGH SHADOW
Through a corridor under the water, visitors follow the stairs up to the water surface and come to the end of the jounery. Only light source in the completely dim corridor comes from the opening in the front, just like any individual who walks alone towards the unknown in life
FADING AWAY
Through the dark aisle, visitors came to this open corridor, surrounded by calm, still water.
As the end of the life-long journey, in this rooftop installation, the water steam evaporated from the burnt copper pipes, fading into the air at regular intervals, as a metaphor for the disappearance of life and the return to the universe.
