Optima was created in Germany, by Hermann Zapf. His inspiration came from the design of letters carved on Renaissance-period tombstones he saw while vacationing in Florence in 1950.
Hermann Zapf was one of the most influential typographers of the early digital age. He made a big impact on modern products-interfaces, such as the first apple products and paved the way for the emoji and assisted alter visual communication.
His creations carry on to inspire today’s visual language in several diverse techniques.

Zapfs “Dingbats“ gained incredible popularity because it was built into an Apple laser printer in the 1980s. These symbols were designed by Hermann Zapf in 1978 to complement contemporary typefaces and visually enhance communication.
PALATINO
Probably the font that Zapf is best known for is Palatino. It was included in the original 35 Postscript system fonts that formed the basis of the desktop publishing revolution. It was believed that Palatino would give a product a touch of “class ”.

MY COLOR PICK :
A neutral color palette serves as a reliable foundation for the design of my „Ashton Martin & Optima Roman“ booklet. It´s rather neutral, but versatile and timeless nature allows typography to take center stage, while complementing the sleek and sophisticated look of automobiles. I strongly believe that the right composition creates a sense of balance, allowing the typography and imagery to coexist harmoniously.
