01.InMyRoom (2022)

Spaces are just as psychological as they are physical Time spent within a space imbues it and the objects within it with a sense of consciousness. I wish to express this feeling of a space coming alive through the incorporation of surrealist elements and geometric distortion in my drawing. My visual recording of this space acts as a tribute to the precious, intimate moments I've had within the walls of my room, so unique to my personal experience. marker pen on paper, A3

03. RailwayCoffee+Grocer
The Former Bukit Timah Railway Station was built in 1932 along the then newly realigned KTM mainline, which is now defunct and acts as a 'green corridor' hiking trail spanning across Singapore from North to South Acting as a landmark along the rail corridor, it was accorded conservation status in 2011. However, the building has been out of use ever since and the objective was to give new life to the area. My idea was to repurpose the old station into a lively café that would cater to the many day hikers that walk along the green corridor In addition, I wanted the space to be a fun, educational platform for events and activities such as gardening workshops and farmer's markets Urban farms provide the café with fresh, sustainable produce to ensure the quality of ingredients used.

Farm to Table Isometric drawing of proposed design Concept sketches
A highly populated and land scarce urban city, less than 1% of Singapore's land area is used for farming. As a result, less than 10% of the food we eat is locally grown and the rest is imported from around the world In preparing for the volatilities of the global food market and disruptions in food supply, supporting local farmers over imported produce is an important step in helping to achieve sustainable food security in Singapore.

Stacked Grid (2020) Back View (2017)
Inspired by the ethereal and biomorphic works of installation artist Tara Donovan, the project is located on a sloping hilltop site along Canterbury Road, Singapore The house gets its name from the expanse of Imperata cylindrica (known colloquially as lalang) that grows on site. Their white, feather like inflorescence swaying in the wind is reminiscent of the delicate lightness of Tara Donovan's sculptures By manipulating the facade's lighting and the inherent physical properties of its translucent material, the house achieves an alluring soft glow and an abstract, atmospheric visual effect Donovan

06. Internship
I took up an internship at Aamer Architects during the school holidays after completing my second year, learning about the design process of houses from start to finish and taking part in an international design competition. It was a transformative experience for me as I am particularly interested in house design, which the firm specialises in I was taught the value of critical thinking and observational skills.

07. Meander@BirchRoad (2020) For my final year project, I was exposed to commercial architecture and had to design an office building. The site is located within the Little India district of Singapore To guide my design process, I chose two projects to study one for developing the design methodology (Kunsthaus Bregenz) and the other as inspiration for spatial planning within the workplace (Villa VPRO). Through the manipulation of space, light and materials, I aimed to recreate in my office the atmosphere and circulation throughout the surrounding area as experienced through the human senses, almost as if they were lost in the cultural melting pot that is Little India Site Plan Daytime Render

Inspired by the tulou, a traditional communal Hakka dwelling in Fujian, China, YUAN is the shared romanization of many different Chinese characters 圆 (union), 源 (roots/origin), 愿 (aspiration) which speak to the values upheld by the association, and 院 (courtyard), 苑 (garden) which inform the design.
