They won promotion twice and they reached the top division in 1997 and are now established senior club in the Altrincham League reaching their pinnacle in the 2000/01 season when they won the Altrincham FA Senior Cup defeating Linotype FC 1-0.

The club was formed in 1991 by present secretary Paul Cheetham, who formed a youth team for Old Alts FC in 1989 and after two seasons the young players wanted to have their own club side so the team left Old Alts, and Kartel Sports was born entering the third division of the Altrincham League.

This season has been a rebuilding exercise for Kartel with the loss of many long serving players last season, who retired. New manager Craig Barlow has come in and introduced many young players that the club was desperate for and this will see Kartel finishing in a mid-table position.

Wythenshawe Town History….

Formed in 1946, and playing at Hough End Fields on Princess Road, Withington, Wythenshawe Town were originally known as North Withington FC, but were eventually re-named in 1987; after a few seasons at their new ground in Wythenshawe. The ground was named Ericstan Park as a tribute to Eric Reynard and Stan Orme who were prime movers in the club's early days. After a long period in the Lancashire and Cheshire League the club joined the Manchester League in 1974. In 2014, Wythenshawe moved from the Manchester League to the Cheshire League 2, a league with representatives from Altrincham, Witton Albion and many more. Wythenshawe Town Football Club senior section now has two teams in the Cheshire League and one in the Manchester Sunday League. Lee McGregor took charge of the squad in the pre-season preceding the 2014/15 season.

Welcome to everyone today, the club have worked tirelessly to get a big crowd down for today‟s game and that can only be commended. Thanks to all those who are coming down to support the team and it will be great to have a bumper crowd and I hope you are attracted to come again. Today we welcome Kartel Sports, cup games can bring games of unknown quantities especially when playing teams from different leagues. But we have to play to the qualities we have in the squad. The players know what is expected of them in this Semifinal tie against Kartel, we have prepared well in training like every game and this game will require no motivation. Cup competitions are important for us I believe, we can test our skills in a one off game and we know that Kartel will want to get to the final just as much as we will. This is the time of year that teams show their worth. We can prove to the doubters that we can win big games and I have all the faith in the strengths we have at this squad. Everyone at the club knows the power that this team possess and a cup final would be a great platform for the players to show everyone what we‟re about. We want Wythenshawe to be proud of our club, Wythenshawe‟s club. We‟re getting our name out there, slowly but surely.

People are getting interested in the club, and why not. The club is putting in the tireless effort to ensure the progression of the club. The North West Counties League is the important aim, and every day we are making strides to that aim. In the off season we are developing the ground, with new stands and it‟s a very much exciting time to be around the club. We really want people to get behind the term we have coined the „Wythylution‟ and we need volunteers to drive the club forward to semi-pro football. It‟s exciting times to be around the club and any support we can get from volunteers, sponsors and supporters will benefit us hugely. Last time out against Cuddington in the Cheshire League, we showed what this team is about with the performance, where we can grind out results in the toughest of conditions. We‟re coming up to two consecutive cup semi-finals. Our focus is all on the upcoming weeks, and we will show Kartel Sports and Gorse Hill what this team is all about. So stay for a drink in the clubhouse after the game with the players. The supporters are one of the driving forces of this club and every single player appreciates the support the fans bring each and every game. ENJOY THE GAME

Captain Jonathan Rand reflects on the season so far but stresses the season really starts now. “The squad have put the hard work in throughout the whole season but I can‟t stress it enough, the season really starts now. We have two semifinals in two weeks and we now know that this will define the season. People will remember these matches when they think about the current Wythenshawe Town squad. We have seen some incredible performances which have dismantled many opponents which have been feared, and the quality of the team we have means we are confident going to into every game. Last time out against Cuddington we put up great determination to grind out a result and it‟s put us 3 points closer to the elusive Cheshire League 2 crown. But all thoughts are now on to today‟s game as we welcome Kartel Sports of the Altrincham District League.

Kartel will have their eyes on the final and we‟ll have to be on top form to beat them. They possess some real quality but we‟re confident we can combat their strengths and exploit their weaknesses. Although they may have not had the most successful league campaign, their cup run shows that means very little coming into big cup games like these and the prestige that comes with winning cups is both teams motivation. Although the team set the aim of promotion this season, that has changed very much since the beginning of the season. We are playing Gorse Hill in the Manchester FA Amateur Cup Semi-Final away. We want everyone to get behind the team in another huge semi-final.

Wythenshawe Town Reserves on Penalties, Hollinwood Reserves (2-5) and last years finalist Deans Youth & Ladies on Penalties.

In the Manchester FA Amateur Cup we have beaten AFC Monton Reserves (5-1), Chorltonians Town (1-5), Salford Victoria Reserves (41) and Irlam Reserves (3-0) to reach this stage of the competition.

Gorse Hill play in the Lancashire & Cheshire 2nd tier, Division 1 and are currently doing well in 2nd just 1 point of the leaders, Abacus Media. But Gorse Hill have 3 games in hand.

Whilst our opponents Gorse Hill have beaten Chorltonians Rovers (7-0),

Wythenshawe Town travelled to Cuddington for a Cheshire League 2 fixture. The first half saw a scrappy affair on a very poor pitch. Wythenshawe took control in the second half and Ash Woodhead put the visitors in front. The hosts only real chance was a free kick that went close in the dying minutes. Lee McGregor had his say on the match, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Not the most fluent performance but we battled in poor conditions and picked up yet another vital 3 points.

Today brings the biggest game of the season so far, it will be a great achievement to reach the final of the Altrincham cup in our first year, good luck to all involved. The one thing you can be assured of with this team is they will give 110% commitment, as they do in every single game they play. Congratulations to our U21 on their semi-final win on Sunday coming out winners of a hard thought game 4-3 after extra time. Well done to each and every one of the team great achievement in their first year of being formed as a team well done. I am delighted with the progress of our 2nd team Gary King, who is doing a fantastic job and put them in contention for the title and in a fantastic position to qualify through their group in the challenge cup taking them into the 1/4 final still a long way to go in the season but the progress is fantastic. The turnaround in our senior teams after the disaster of last season has been fantastic, the first team remain in all 4 competitions. The 2nd team in contention for the title and challenge cup, U21s in their first year are in top half of the table and in the final of the Cheshire League Cup at Altrincham FC date to be announced. Well done to each and every one of the players, management and everyone involved with the club. We are holding a fundraiser night on 14th March to raise money to replace the old fence to Altrincham road.
