Fleetwood welcomes and supports everyone to enjoy our fabulous coastline
Very few places in the UK can claim to have truly accessible beaches for wheelchair users, but thanks to the exceptional volunteer-run Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs, people of all abilities can enjoy and explore the coast.
Fleetwood resident Michael Gray lives close to the Promenade. He saw people unable to access the beach and wanted to do something about the issue. An active member of the Town's vibrant Rotary group, who supported and encouraged his idea from the start, Mick approached Healthier Fleetwood for advice on how to proceed and a steering group including local residents and representatives of Fleetwood Town Council and Wyre Council was formed to take the idea forward.
Within a year of launching, the service has helped over 300 people make wonderful memories at the seaside and continues to welcome more visitors every week.
How to book a beach wheelchair
You can book a chair in advance by telephoning 03000 111 003 or by using the online booking form available at www. fleetwoodbeachwheelchairs.co.uk
The more notice you can give the better so that the team can reserve the chair that best suits your needs and ensure that volunteers are available to facilitate your booking. Same day bookings are sometimes possible depending on availability.
Bookings are accepted 7 days a week, between 10am and 4pm, last booking 3pm.
