Spending time outdoors is proven to benefit both your physical and mental health.

Our stunning coast and countryside both provide healthy natural environments for you to enjoy and explore on your own or with your friends and family. Whether you come along to one of our activities, such as conservation days, cycling sessions, wellbeing walks, wildlife workshops and more, or simply take a walk around your local park, being outside and enjoying nature will help to improve your mood, focus, and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

The five ways to wellbeing

Helping you to take action to improve your wellbeing

Connect - It's clear that social relationships are important for promoting wellbeing. Everyone is welcome to come along to our activities to meet new people, make new friends and build connections with others.

Be active - Regular physical activity is proven to improve your physical and mental health. With a range of guided walks and cycles, our activities offer lots of opportunities to get active! Even those with busy schedules can take advantage of our beautiful open spaces by heading out on a walk, jog or cycle.

Take notice - Heightened awareness, sometimes known as mindfulness, can enhance your self understanding and change the way you feel about life. Visit our stunning countryside or sprawling coastline, and take some time to simply enjoy the moment and the environment around you.

Learn - Continued learning enhances self-esteem. From gardening clubs and conservation days, to art sessions and craft days, there are so many opportunities to learn something new and develop new skills.

Give - Research has shown that committing an act of kindness once a week is associated with an increase in wellbeing. Why not consider volunteering? Find out more about our many volunteer opportunities at www.wyre.gov.uk/volunteering

Fleetwood Wellbeing Way

A new pathway to better physical and mental health

If you're not sure where to begin your journey to better wellbeing, start with a walk along the Fleetwood Wellbeing Way. Created by a group of dedicated volunteers, this walking route along the town’s Esplanade is inspired by the five ways to wellbeing.

Along the walk you'll find signs with ideas to build resilience, boost wellbeing and improve both mental and physical health. Residents and visitors are encouraged to share how they’ve completed a challenge with their friends and family or on social media.

For more information, news and updates on other health and wellbeing activities in the local area, search for Fleetwood Wellbeing Way on Facebook and join the online group.

The Bay

A natural way to wellbeing

Reconnecting with nature can have a positive impact on our wellbeing. Taking time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the seaside together is a well-known method of helping combat depression, anxiety and other mental health issues.

The Wildlife Trust's award winning wellbeing offer (Myplace) has now evolved in Wyre. The Bay: A Blueprint for Recovery provides an opportunity to help the natural world, learn new skills and connect with like-minded people.

These free nature sessions in Wyre will help you get back outside in a safe and relaxed environment. You can join small group sessions once a week at a variety of outdoor locations to enjoy a range of activities aimed at supporting wildlife and helping you to feel happier and healthier.
